Love With Food Deluxe March 2020 Box Review

The box comes with a card. I would say these have to do with themes but the snacks don't seem selected based on themes at all:

On to the items:

Incredipuffs Cinnamon Apple Pie (0.74 oz) - Buy 24 bags for $29.99

These have been showing up in food subscription boxes a lot lately. I am pretty sure they're vegan and that I've seen them in the Vegancuts snack box as well. These come in both sweet and savory flavors and I have to say, I think the sriracha ones are the best, but these are not bad. Sort of like eating cinnamon twists at Taco Bell (do they still have those?) but better for you.

Pennysticks Brand Pretzels (0.9 oz) - Buy 12, 12 oz bags for $44.99

These are fairly standard for pretzels, I thought. And then I looked at some of the Amazon reviews, and a lot of people say these are very salty, which I didn't really notice, but I did think they were quite good and I like salty snacks quite a bit, so maybe they *were* salty. Anyway, I would buy these if I saw them in a store but I don't really want to spend $45 on 144 ounces of them.

Love, Corn Smoked BBQ  (0.7 oz) - Buy 15 for $18.75 (found here for $15)

This is also a repeat item, I'm pretty sure I've had this exact flavor before. It has a little more of a smoky flavor than I'd normally go for ("umami" is not my thing, for sure) but the texture works better than expected and I'd love to try a different flavor sometime to see how it compares.

Big Sandy Organics Cracklin Kamut in Sea Salt (1 oz) - Buy 12 for $21 (found here for $15)

I think we have received this in another flavor before. This one was kind of plain. Kamut is an ancient grain and a relative of wheat and this is pretty high in fiber and let's just say I probably had too much fiber the evening I tried this because I also had pearled barley as part of my dinner, plus kidney beans. I ate this with a spoon because I really wasn't sure how else to deal with it. The pieces are too small for this to be a finger food.

Marich Pancrafted Chocolates Dark Chocolate Barrel Aged Bourbon Caramels (2.1 oz) - Buy 12 bags for $30

I kind of want to post the "shut up and take my money" meme here because I love these. They are amazing. I want to spend about $200 buying all kinds of stuff on their website. I would, too (I am bored working at home these days) but it would probably all melt before it got to me. But seriously, I liked these a lot. The bourbon flavoring added a nice touch.

Beanitos in Sea Salt (1 oz) - Buy 6, 5 oz bags for $19.14

These also are frequently included in food subscription boxes. They are made mostly with beans instead of corn. I find that lately I like Beanfield's more for texture reasons. When Beanitos did a packaging change awhile back, they changed something about the recipe for the chips as well, and they're a little tougher now. Anyway, these are pretty plain but work well with salsa or crumbled up in chili.

Keep Healthy New York Date Bar in Apricot Coconut (1.6 oz) - Buy 15 for $22.35 (found here for $20)

This is a new brand for me but it is really very similar to other date and nut bars (although it has walnut instead of cheaper nuts, so there is that). This had weird little chewy bits that may have been the nuts or the coconut, although they didn't bother me too much, they were just unexpected. Overall I did like the flavor, although there are lots of other snacks like this out there already.

Undercover Dark Chocolate and Sea Salt Crispy Quinoa (0.25 oz) - Buy 8, 2 oz bags for $31.92

I share all subscription box snacks with my husband and this was pretty tiny and hard to saw in half with a steak knife. So I was surprised when it was not all that hard to chew. I guess crushing surfaces like molars are better than cutting surfaces like a knife blade for this particular item. Anyway, this is a new item and brand for me, which was nice to see in a box full of a lot of repeats, and this might be a good choice if you want the taste of chocolate but you also want some kind of filler so you're not eating *just* chocolate (like, to cut down on fat so you can eat more, or something).

Prince of Peace Original Ginger Chews (4 oz) - Retail Value $4.28

The first time I received a whole bag of these I thought it was nice -- there were so many. But I am having to leave these to my husband because I am currently fearing for my dental work and unable to go to the dentist due to a county-wide lockdown and the dentist's office being closed in addition to that. (My permanent retainer wire came loose on one end and I need to get it bonded back to my tooth. I don't want to rock the boat by eating something super sticky and making things worse. It is tolerable right now and I'd like to keep it that way.) Anyway, these are very sticky if you hadn't guessed, and they have a bit of a kick to them (as I said, I've had them before).

Legendary Foods Buffalo Blue Wing Seasoned Almonds (1.5 oz) - Buy 4 oz for $5.99

I have honestly lost count of how many times I have received these in Love With Food. I like them (actually I think they are delicious) but I would maybe like to see a bit more variety from time to time. I have no idea if they taste like Buffalo wing seasoning because I've never eaten a Buffalo wing (and since I've been a vegetarian for 26 years I never will eat a Buffalo wing) but these have a nice level of spice going on and I am nearly always up for almonds.

Zee Zee's Birthday Cake Soft Baked Bar (1.3 oz) - Buy 12 for $14.40 (found here for $13)

Zee Zee's products show up in this box at least once a month lately. They're clearly meant to appeal to kids rather than childfree adults like myself. This is basically a cookie and don't let anyone try to tell you otherwise! It does have some whole grains and that somewhat artificial birthday cake flavor that I've seen in other snacks, protein powders, etc. This had one sad, lonely blue sprinkle on it (not sure if it shows in the picture).

Pear's Gourmet Everything Bagel Flavored Cashews (1 oz) - Buy 7 oz for $13.98

This is nice, in theory, but it doesn't work so well in practice. A good half of the package weight is seeds and such that were probably originally stuck to the cashews but fell off. Also there is caraway in here and if you don't like caraway it is quite noticeable (I'm not a huge fan of caraway, myself, although I love cashews). This is a repeat item.

Enstrom Almond Toffee in Milk Chocolate (1.5 oz) - Buy 24 for $42.96

Any month without the bourbon caramels and this would've been my favorite item. I love Enstrom toffees. Back when Love With Food used to have lots of stuff in their rewards pantry, I used a whole bunch of points to get like an entire box of these toffees. They have a great crunch but also sort of melt in your mouth. Anyway, I would expect this to appeal to many of the same people as the bourbon caramels.

Stryve Original Beef Biltong Stick (1 oz) - Buy 2.5 oz for $7.99

This is mostly made of beef with a little bit of vinegar and some spices (and "lamb casing" which I can guess at but don't really want to know). This is sitting around my kitchen and I promise it will go to a good home one of these days, but I'm vegetarian and my husband doesn't eat meat sticks, and Atlanta and Cobb County, GA (my office is in both and also I live in Cobb County) are under "shelter in place" orders so there's no going into the office for me. I'll probably accumulate several meat sticks from other food boxes to drop off when we get back to the office as well (but there are a whole lot of keto people there who will probably love it).

Awake Mint Dark Chocolate Bite (0.53 oz) - Buy 50 bites for $29.99

I've had these in other flavors. They are not bitter despite having a lot of caffeine, which is nice. I'd like to talk to the people at this company about tempering chocolate so the color doesn't get all weird (which seems to be a feature of this brand). Mint works well with chocolate, of course, and it's good to get a small serving so you don't go overboard. Please note this has about as much caffeine as half a cup of coffee and luckily this time, I remembered that and ate it in the afternoon instead of at night. (I don't consume a lot of caffeine relative to the average person so a little bit gets me wired.)

Verdict: There were 15 items in the March 2020 Love With Food Deluxe Box. There were a lot of repeats (Love, Corn, Incredipuffs, almonds, cashews, Beanitos, ginger chews, etc.) but there were a few things that I'd love to try again (hint, hint, toffee and caramels) as well as a few items that are new to me, including the apricot coconut bar. I would say this is a fairly standard month for this subscription. I ordinarily wouldn't get too excited except the caramels were delicious and I already knew I loved the toffee, and nothing was even melted although it is getting warmer around here lately.
