Bespoke Post is a men’s subscription box that I've found is really great for anyone. They offer a new selection of curated boxes each month and allow you to choose the one you like best. The included items range from clothing to DIY kits, to lifestyle, to home and everything in between so that there is always something for everyone. This subscription was one of the first ones I lusted after when reading MSA long ago so I’m overjoyed to be reviewing it every month now!

Bespoke Post "Switchback" Review

This month's box came with only an info card that explains how to build a fire. I appreciate that!

Morakniv Basic 546 Knife - Retail Value $11.99

I actually have one of these knives already in red that I received from another subscription box. I'll happily take another though because I find this to be a nice solid simple knife. It's made with an impact-resistant plastic handle and a Sandvik stainless steel blade, along with a plastic sheath. The sheath will also allow me to hang on a belt and even connect this knife with my other one so I can really look intense. I'll most likely keep this one in my camping pack and leave the other at home for random yard work or household needs. I like that this one has a bright orange accent so that it'll be harder to misplace outdoors.

UCO Stormproof Match Kit - Retail Value $7.95

One thing that is the handiest when building a fire is a good set of matches. I usually have one of those huge grill lighters on hand, but these stormproof matches come in their own waterproof refillable container (which also floats) with extra striking surfaces and will light even when wet or in windy conditions. Each match has a 15 second burn time so that even in poor weather, I should have extra time to get a fire set. Just to give it a whirl, I lit one of these in my bathroom (bad idea) and my word- that thing was practically like a flare! I instinctively tried to wave it out but since it's a windproof match, it kept on chuggin'! I then put it under the faucet which temporarily put it out but then it started back up! These matches are POWERFUL. Now I know that they are no lie. Super pumped on these.

Rothco Military Marching Compass - Retail Value $10.99

This compass is not messing around! This military-grade and appropriately olive green compass is strong but lightweight. It has a lot of functions that I don't know how to use yet as a novice, but I'll be reading the included directions more closely before a major outing. It comes equipped with a slide ruler and magnifying glass and is inside a compact fold-up case that is made from sturdy aluminum. This probably won't leave my camping/hiking pack!

Solight Design Helix Solar Lantern - Retail Value $25.00

This is so clever! A solar-powered lantern is already a great idea for being outside, but this one even folds flat so it takes up much less space thus making packing for a trip a whole lot easier. When flat, all I have to do is gently twist and pull up on the handle which sort of naturally inflates the cube. There's a button at the top that allows me to toggle through two different brightness levels, then a third blinking setting. When I want to pack the lantern back flat, I just need to slowly twist it again and press down to release the air inside of the cube. It's so easy to use and the glow that this small lantern puts out is bright yet not harsh.

Rothco Tri-Fold Shovel - Retail Value $11.99

While the number one use for this shovel may be to dig a toilet in the wilderness, it has a ton of uses and folds up neatly into a third (9 inches) of its full length (24 inches) to stow away while not in use. It's made of sturdy metal and it powder coated in a dark olive green color. Two of the four edges of the head of the shovel are serrated to make digging a bit easier. I can see using this in my backyard as well since my roommate recently expressed an interest in starting a vegetable garden.

Add-On Item!

One of the perks of being a Bespoke Post Club Member (subscriber) is getting some unique and curated items at a discounted price. They carry a lot of great items from brands I already love and offer special discounts to their subscribers. You can choose to have add-ons items shipped with your monthly box or have them shipped immediately. I decided to give this feature a whirl and have it shipped with my box.

Cotopaxi Bataan 3L Fanny Pack, various colors - Retail Value $30.00/Bepoke Post Club Member Price $25.00 (now $20.00)

I have been drooling over the cute and brightly colored outdoor products that Cotopaxi has to offer for years but never ended up ordering anything from them until now. I happened to be browsing the selection of items on Bespoke Post and saw that they were offering this super cute fanny pack for $25 (usually $30) and finally went ahead with it to see how add-0ns work! Since these packs are made from the fabric leftover from other companies’ larger production runs, each one is completely unique and the color I would receive was to be a surprise. I decided that since I wanted this for the fun colorways, I would be happy with anything! I love the maroon and blue panels with the brighter green zipper that mine came with! This fanny pack is quite large, really well made, and ended up being a great companion on a recent hike.

Verdict: This month, my Bespoke Post box has a retail value of $67.92 for the five survival items included. Although I had one item already, this seems like a good box to get some basic tools for camping and outdoor activities which makes me feel more prepared. I am most excited about the shovel since I think something that sturdy and compact will be really useful once I'm heading outdoors more. Heck, I can even use it in my yard. The match kit and compass are no brainers when in the wilderness and the lantern will be useful in both my backyard this summer or on a camping trip. I was also happy to try out the add-on feature for the first time and get a fanny pack I've wanted at a discounted price for being a member. Very excited about these items!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes! Switchback is still available to choose as your next box.

Value Breakdown: For $48.95 ($45 + $3.95 shipping), here's what you're paying for each knife:

  • Knife: $8.64
  • Matches: $5.73
  • Compass: $7.92
  • Lantern: $18.02
  • Shovel: $8.64

Marne, Great review. And wow – the last two months you reviewed the exact box that was next on my BP purchase list!

You convinced me this is a good one for me. I’ve been eyeing that shovel especially, and I’ve always wanted a “real” compass. And I have a sense that knife will come in handy.

I don’t consider myself a knife person, but I received that red knife you mentioned (from Nomadik, right?) and it’s awesome! When I first got it I didn’t know what I would ever use it for. But one day I was opening sealed boxes and couldn’t find my utility knife – turns out that red one is even better for the job.

Oh, we must have similar taste, Beth!
What did you pick this month?! 😛
I need to use that knife more than I do! Perhaps I’ll try it for opening packages!

Not a high RV for the cost, but what a great curation this month!
I laughed at your match review. Lol. Definitely a great thing to have while camping.
