March 2020 Target Beauty Box "Spring Break" Review

This month’s box is all about refreshing your beauty routine with these travel-friendly products.

This info card provides a short description of each item sampled and on the flip side a Target coupon good for $3 off a beauty purchase of $15 or more. This month I received an in-store coupon that also includes a promo code you can redeem online.

Nexxus Therrappe Replenishing Shampoo, 3 oz - Retail Value $2.99

Nexxus Humectress Replenishing Conditioner, 3 oz - Retail Value $3.99

I absolutely love this shampoo and conditioner duo. The shampoo smells like coconut, and it feels hydrating and nourishing in my hair. The conditioner has a fresh, more predictable hair product smell, but it moisturizes without weighing your hair down and does a fantastic job with detangling and smoothing flyaways. I grew up using this set, and my fine hair looks and feels amazing after reuniting.

Cetaphil Daily Cleanser, 1 oz - Estimated Value $1.49 (Buy 2 oz for $2.99)

This cleanser is also a blast from the past, although I am a little disappointed that they sent out the scented version. This cleanser is so gentle on the skin, and even though this is meant for normal to oily skin, I find my dry skin doesn't feel stripped after rinsing and patting my face dry.

Schmidt’s Rose + Black Pepper Deodorant, 2.65 oz - Full Size! Retail Value $7.99

This is the item I was most excited for! You are paying only $7 for this box, which is less than what this D.O. retails for! Rose + Black Pepper is definitely not a scent I would choose, but I am happy to try something a little out of my comfort zone. After applying this deodorant, I really couldn't smell the black pepper notes. The rose scent is potent, but I didn't smell it on me until raising my arm. My pits felt fresh, stayed dry and smelt rosy all day long. Schmidt's is totally free of aluminum salts, propylene glycol, parabens, phthalates and artificial fragrance. and I would recommend any of their deodorants for anyone just hopping on the natural deodorant bandwagon.

Thayers Rose Petal Facial Mist, 3 fl oz - Retail Value $4.49

When I first received this box, I opened this bottle to see how strong the rose petal essence was, and whoa--it took me back. I didn't think I was going to like this at all, but I gave it a second chance. I sprayed it on the back of my hands, and the strong rose scent dissipated; I was left with soft skin and a light, floral fragrance. Aloe lightly hydrates and soothes the skin, while the witch hazel combats impurities in the air.

Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Refreshing Dry Shampoo, 1.6 oz - Retail Value $2.69

Unscented dry shampoo kind of defeats the purpose, huh? Well, at least for me, when I am reaching for a dry shampoo, I love a pleasant scent to freshen up my style, but I guess this is a great product for anyone who doesn't want their dry shampoo to clash with their perfume. This does a decent job at perking up my roots on day one (a day after washing my hair), but this couldn't revive day two or three hair. It leaves a very slight white cast, but it isn't hard to brush out.

OGX Refresh & Restore Coconut Miracle Oil Dry Shampoo, 1.75 oz - Estimated Value $2.45 (Buy 5 oz for $6.99)

After trying about 100 different dry shampoo formulas, I've come to realize that there is no such thing as the perfect dry shampoo (even though Living Proof's comes pretty close!). OGX's has a lovely tropical smell, although it did leave a white residue at my roots, which was difficult to blend out. I have very fine hair, and this formula did not assist with volume. This is the perfect dry shampoo to reach for when you’re looking for a fresh fragrant boost, but as far as oil-reducing or volumizing goes, I’d look elsewhere.

Verdict: I was so happy with March's Target Beauty Box. I love the large samples and array of new brands they are bringing to the table. This box is such a great way to stock up on travel essentials, and I love seeing the different products and brands Target has to offer. The value of this box is $26.09, over triple the $7 box cost (which includes free shipping), an excellent value!

I ordered two more! I couldn’t place what I had used before with the same fragrance as the deodorant. I asked my daughter and she stated thstvit “was that Fresh stuff” Sure enough it was the rose mask by Fresh. So happy that the Schmidt’s doed not contain baking soda. A three month stint with Native caused my armpits to turn dark grey… alarming.

I can do Native in rotation, but the discoloration for me was darker and got irritated when I tried to use it exclusively. They do have one without baking soda now. Try Myro, for truly sensitive deodorant.

Myro caused my armpits to turn red and burn. I used it for a few weeks before this happened. They’ve taken it off the shelves around my area and I didn’t see it offered online. Just a precautionary tale. I even had Target contact me about what happened. That was a nice surprise, but I’ve healed just fine.

I give away my dry shampoo to people who have elderly relatives they care for. I keep one Klorane one jic I need more volume. But in general I just like to actually wash, lol.

I thought this was a great box. I was happy to try the deodorant and the $3 coupon made this such a good deal. Target is having 50% off beauty steals for the next two weeks, so I’m planning on using it with one of those.

I actually can’t stand dry shampoos with scents. I guess I’m super sensitive, but also I just use dry shampoo to refresh my hair when I skipped a real shampoo.

So interesting — I never thought of dry shampoo’s purpose is for smell. Mine is to get rid of oiliness and make it look like i washed my hair haha. I actually prefer my dry shampoo NOT to smell. Love the Clean Freak for a cheap dry shampoo option. Living proof is my expensive one i keep on hand for more important occasions, but i LOVE the clean freak one for daily use.

What’s funny is the only reason I use dry shampoo is for the fragrance! 😀 I have received so many dry shampoos in boxes, and out of my friends I only have one that uses dry shampoo (and only on occassion), so she quickly became overloaded on them, and I never have a need for dry shampoos. However, I recalled people saying how dry shampoos add a bit of volume to hair, so I thought I’d try using one in my ponytail, and while it helped a tad to add some body, I noticed it served even better as a hair fragrance! So now I keep all dry shampoos & texture/sea salt sprays and use them as a hair fragrance. 🙂

What a great idea, Luna! I’ve gotten tons of dry shampoos from sub boxes and tried them all both to allow me a day between washes and as part of my eternal quest to give my straight, baby fine, thinning hair some desperately needed volume. Unfortunately nearly every one I’ve tried only weighs my hair down even more or it just does nothing at all.
I did find one that actually does everything it’s supposed to do and it smells fantastic. Fortunately dry shampoo is not something I use very often because it’s one of the more expensive ones. It’s the one from IGK that costs over $30 a can. I think I must’ve gotten a trial size from Sephora at some point and skeptically gave it the obligatory shot and it actually wowed me. I thought, “So THIS is why so many people love dry shampoo and this is what those other 50 or so cans I tried were supposed to do.” I immediately ordered a set with one full and one travel size. I’m also still hoarding the rest of the original can since with my luck they’ll end up discontinuing or changing the formula.

I used to give all the salt/wave sprays a try, especially the ones that claimed to work on ALL hair types. Some even specified they were effective on completely straight hair. Unfortunately after sampling so many with absolutely zero results aside from some occasional volume I had to pay for with stickiness, I very rarely bother and just immediately pull them from my sub box and toss right into my donation pile. I was discussing this with a hairstylist I’d never been to before and she rolled her eyes and blatantly acted like I was a total moron for thinking that any hair product alone could possibly add even the slightest curve to my stick straight hair. I guess I know better now, but there are products out there that absolutely swear their product will allow anyone to magically conjur up curls simply by spraying and scrunching.

I don’t have any friends or family with curly or even slightly wavy hair so I don’t see myself keeping many salt/wave sprays around. But if I stumble across one that smells amazing I just might keep it out of the donation pile to use as hair fragrance. I have an abnormally strong sense of smell and absolutely can’t stand when my hair absorbs strong odors in my environment. Way way back in my younger days of going clubbing and hanging out in bars when you could still smoke, it didn’t matter what time I got home or how much I drank or how exhausted I was. I had to shower and wash my hair no matter what because I couldn’t lay in bed and get whiffs of the odor every time I moved or wind up with my face buried in part of the pillow my hair had been contaminating for hours. And the funny part is that I was actually a smoker myself back then. Didn’t matter though. I never allowed myself to smell like cigarettes. Not my hands or clothes and especially not my long and much thicker big 90’s hair. 😉

I really enjoyed this box! Looking forward to trying the deodorant and the dry shampoos. I don’t tire of receiving those! This was well worth the $7
