Sunday Shares Box Review - Spring 2020

Sunday Shares
5 overall rating
10 Ratings | 0 Reviews

Sunday Shares is the new name of the "quarterlish" lifestyle box from Sunday Riley that costs $95.00/each. The box is still curated by the editors of their blog, The Sunday Edit, but now has a charitable component to it. With every delivery, there will be a new theme as well as a new charity that they'll partner with and donate 10% of box sales to. In addition to beauty and lifestyle items by new and popular brands, they include a few Sunday Riley products in a cute reusable pouch. The launch of this box seemed to be a bigger deal and more organized than the previous ones and they even have a separate Instagram account.

Heads up! This post may be NSFW (not safe for work) due to some of the contents and imagery. Yeah, the vibrator doesn't look too wild or anything, but just in case you don't want your coworker looking over at a butt (on the box/info card) on your screen, read on with caution!

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Sunday Shares Box "Not Safe For Work" Edition Review

The first Sunday Shares Box has a "Not Safe For Work" theme. Their first charitable partnership (which will change with each box) is with PERIOD, which is "an organization leading the period movement through service, education, and advocacy." Find out more about them here.

Sunday Riley Come Upstairs Massage Candle, 8 oz. - Listed Value $65.00

Thie first item of the box looks to be exclusive to the box since Sunday Riley doesn't have any candles listed on their site for sale. The alluring "Come Upstairs" scent is a blend of linden blossom, vanilla, honey, and sandalwood which creates something I can only describe as "sexy." The 8-ounce candle not only makes a room smell nice, but it doubles as massage oil when melted so that you can use this on your lover to set the right kind of mood. Be sure to only extinguish the flame before using the wax though, so that it's not too hot and you don't catch anything on fire!

Sunday Riley Set

The set of two Sunday Riley products with this box come in a cute pink resealable bubble pouch like the past boxes. I like to hold on to these and reuse them to pack jewelry while traveling or for gifting a small skincare item to a friend.

Sunday Riley Ice Ceramide Moisturizing Cream, 8 g  - Estimated Value $10.40 (Buy 50 g for $65.00)

Whoa, this is a THICK moisturizing cream even though it's still quite soft. It smells sort of like vanilla or almond frosting as well without overdoing it. My face stayed a tiny bit... tacky (which isn't really the right word, but I'll go with it) after using this but it felt like it was really plumping my skin with hydration and giving me a more youthful appearance. It has beetroot and coconut extract, along with ceramides, vitamin F, and pomegranate sterols. I'll definitely be using this little jar until it's gone.

Sunday Riley Good Genes Glycolic Acid Treatment, 15 mL - Estimated Value $42.50 (Buy 30 mL for $85.00)

Good Genes is a favorite Sunday Riley product of mine and I'd be lying if I said part of that is because of the light lemony citrus scent it has. This cream contains the AHA glycolic acid which has anti-aging benefits, is great for acne-prone skin, and can help the rest of your skincare routine absorb better. It can be used twice a day with the rest of your routine and should be used after cleansing and toning. The cream is really lightweight and I can immediately see a difference in my skin after using it. My face seems smoother, more hydrated and a bit more luminous.

Crave Vesper Necklace in Rose Gold - Retail Value $79.00

Probably the hero of this box and the main reason for the "Not Safe For Work" theme, we have the Vesper Necklace by Crave which is a display-worthy vibrator that you can wear as a necklace. To the average person, this silver and rose gold piece looks like an elegant statement necklace. This has to be the prettiest vibrator I've ever owned and that says a lot because I have some stunners! Even though this one is for external use only, it suits my needs really well

The vibe itself is 3.75" long and just 5/16 of an inch in diameter and hangs from a rose gold chain (that matches the rose gold top) that hangs 12.5" down. One press of the tiny button on the back reveals that it has three vibration levels to toggle through, along with a fourth setting that pulses. Personally, I find even the first level pretty intense, so this baby holds a lot of power.

To charge your new favorite piece of jewelry, all you have to do is unscrew the top rose gold piece and then screw in the included USB charging cord. Simply plug that into a laptop or use a wall plug cube to plug the cord into and you're all set. After it's fully charged, you'll get 40 minutes of playtime.

Noto Botanics Agender Oil, 2 oz. - Retail Value $40.00

I was really happy to see this item in the box because I'm so curious about NOTO! I've gotten one or two makeup items in other boxes in the past but this is my first brush with their skincare. I love that NOTO makes a big deal about their products being unisex and their minimal packaging can appeal to anyone who has a keen design sense. Their Agender Oil can be used on the face, body, and even hair to soften, hydrate, and soothe. This oil is light and has a wonderfully intoxicating vetiver and lavender scent to it. I like to use it on my legs when I get out of the shower (especially after shaving) and since I'm learning how to wax in my Esthetics class, this makes a great post-waxing soothing treatment. In addition to those uses and especially with its great smell, the Agender Oil can also be used for massages!

by/rosie jane Perfume Oil in Rosie, 5 mL - Retail Value $40.00

This perfume oil is sooooo nice! I love that it comes in a rollerball bottle so it's super easy to put on without getting it everywhere. It has such a light delicate scent with notes of sheer musk, rose, and vanilla which is the best of all of the perfume worlds, in my opinion. I love a little musk scent, but the vanilla warms it with sweetness and the rose brings in a delicate floral. Ugh! I'm falling in love just talking about it! It's also great to know that it's made with all-natural ingredients and is certified cruelty-free with recycled packaging. I'm so tempted to try other scents from this brand!

J.Hannah Nailpolish in Blue Nudes, 0.5 oz. - Retail Value $19.00

I used to have the sickest nail polish collection and years ago I'd have a weekly night with my girlfriends when we'd paint our nails and gossip while listening to records. Years of acrylics and my friends moving away changed all that, but back in December, I traded my false stiletto set and gel polish in for my natural nails once again. While I nurse them back to health, I am slowly becoming interested in regular polish again. This brand is new to me and I was immediately impressed as I covered my nails with the dark blue polish in just one coat. This has a super-rich formula that is well pigmented and opaque. Dark blue isn't something I'd normally wear these days but it's quite striking so I think I'll be keeping this one around.

Flamingo Shave Set - Retail Value $16.00

Also included in the Sunday Shares box is a full Flamingo shave set! Even though I already have a Flamingo razor, I can't be mad at this because I'll have extra of everything now, as well as a new color for my handle. I received the mint and gold variant which is so pretty and pleasing to look at in the shower. In addition to the handle, the set comes with two 5-blade cartridges, a 1 oz. travel size of their shave gel, a 3 oz. travel size of their body lotion, a suction cup shower hook for the razor, and a reusable pouch to keep everything in. If you want a more in-depth look at this set and how well Flamingo razors work, you're in luck. I wrote a full review of this set a while back and the info still holds true. To put it simply, I love the weight of the Flamingo, and after testing MANY razors, the taro colored one I got when first reviewing is the one currently in my shower and the one I buy replacement blades for.

Queen V Pop The Bubbly, 16.9 oz. - Retail Value $9.00

It's hard to remember bath life before bath bombs, but most of it for me included Mr. Bubbles. Queen V is a brand dedicated to keeping your lady parts safe and makes a range of products that are pH balanced to do so. Using green tea, mango, and chamomile extracts, this bubble bath smells like a delicious fresh smoothie or juice and remains gentle to your "Queen V" so that you can soak without any irritation. It's cruelty-free, gynecologist-approved, and free of dyes and parabens. Just a few pumps of this under the faucet creates a safe bubbly space to relax and breathe in the delightful fruity scent.

Verdict: Once again, I think the Sunday Shares Box did a wonderful job with curation on the "Not Safe For Work" theme. The items are from new and exciting brands and I don't think there's too much filler here at all. The classy vibrator necklace, NOTO oil, and perfume oil are probably my favorites this time but I'm legitimately excited about everything in here. Almost every item is full-size (except the Sunday Riley skincare which seems strange) and the nine items have a total retail value of $320.90. That's over three times the cost of the box.

I reached out they said the subscription is currently postponed with no set return date, due to Covid-19. They said when the box returns will be worth the wait… fingers crossed!

Oh no! Thanks for the update. I was just wondering why we hand’t heard anything about a summer / fall box yet. I really enjoy this subscription box and hope they return. <3

Does anyone know when the next box is due to come out? I had subscribed for the year before the switched to single boxes but haven’t heard a thing about the next quarter’s box. TIA!

I received the exact same response as Lars. In my original email to them, in addition to asking about the spring box, I did mention to them that I thought it would have been courteous to let their subscribers know.

Lars

I had been checking on this as I was supposed to be charged/get a new box on July 16th. When I reached out to the. On the 16th, here is the response:

Thank you so much for reaching out about our Sunday Shares box! To handle this uncertain and unprecedented time, we have postponed the launch of the next Sunday Shares box to better support our clients and focus our efforts on the core brand. We are so grateful for your support and understanding. We promise that when our Sunday Shares box returns- it will be more than worth the wait!

Lynda

My order date changed from Sept to July 16 a couple weeks ago. Also, I am still on a subscription.

Sharlene

I emailed them and will post if/when I get a reply.

It’s a good box, Squirrely! But I pretty much always love SR boxes…

While this is my least favorite SR box (too heavy on beauty and the fragrances chosen just aren’t me), I have a use for everything. The vibrator surprised me the most. It packs a punch and is so easy to travel with! I have A LOT of toys so for me to be impressed is very unusual. I also am weirdly impressed by the shaving foam…it’s bern a while since I found one that works really well.

Good box and good value. I do hope they go back to having less focus on beauty items though 🙂

LOVE the curation of this box & review! Thank you! Can’t wait to get it! One question tho’ …is this a one box purchase or subscription?

Reply ButtonReply

Marne Orenich

Thanks, Victoria!
Yep, Jennyboo- they switched from having a subscription to just offering one-time purchases only.

Reply ButtonReply

Victoria

One-time purchase 🙂

Jennyboo

Thank you Victoria! 😁👍

Lisa

So you put the good genes on before a moisturizer? And a necklace that’s a vibrator 🤣 Hahaha!! I love it!!

Reply ButtonReply

Marne Orenich

Lisa- yes! I’d use this before moisturizers or oils.

I was pleasantly surprised by this box, it was chock full of goodies. The curation is always on point and worth the price point in my opinion

Just ordered it!

FYI the nail polish is *extremely* difficult to remove. I tested it by painting one coat on a few nails and immediately removed it. Unfortunately, it left my nails and cuticles stained dark blue for several days (and this is after soaking my nails in nail polish remover multiple times & aggressively trying to scrub it off). I’ve never had such an issue removing dark polish before.

Reply ButtonReply

Jessica

Omg I had the same problem with the nail polish!!!! Stained my nails and cuticles badly, and took several days to finally come off. Maybe we got a bad batch??? Such a bummer because I loved the color. 🙁

Reply ButtonReply

Jordan

Weird. I took a bath and the hot water allowed me to peel off the polish. No staining underneath and I didn’t use nail polish remover. I just peeled it off.

Reply ButtonReply

lety

Weird! I didn’t have that issue – I didn’t even use a base coat.

Reply ButtonReply

Marne Orenich

A base coat may help with that if it’s any consolation!

As someone who is allergic to Propelene glycol I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your reviews and pictures. The website only lists ingredients for the actual S.R. products, but not you. So thank you!

Reply ButtonReply

Marne Orenich

You’re very welcome, Boxy Fox! If you click the link in the name of each product, it will take you to a site to purchase (usually the brand’s site or another reputable site) and hopefully that will show the ingredients as well. I hope that helps if our pictures don’t get you the info you need.

Reply ButtonReply

Boxy Fox

They don’t that’s why your reviews are so great. And shipping on this box was super fast! It’s already at my door!
Has anyone emailed them about the Polish?

Jen

I must order this box now! Great review!!’

Thanks, Jen! Hope you enjoy it!!

A candle and a vibrator . . . welp, I’m sold!

Reply ButtonReply

anDreama

Saaaaame! Candle and a vibrator? Yes. I’m over here wondering why the heck FFF and PS never sent out any vibrators! I don’t think I’ve looked at a $100 box and actually wanted anything, but the body stuff all looks great!

Reply ButtonReply

SquirrelyGirl

I highly recommend Heart and Honey boxes. They have an adult toy and usually high quality jewelry, candles and bath and body items. Everything is always high quality!

Abby

Yes!
FFF and PS are just to PG for a vibrator- that’s why I adore this box – it screams grown women. 💅🏿

Marne Orenich

Hahaha. Simple pleasures!

Abby

Yes. I’m easy to please! 😁

Once I saw the Heads Up warning, I knew this was a Marne review 😂 I’ll read anything you write. I didn’t think much of this box at first, but after this review I’m pretty intrigued! Even when a box isn’t for me, SR sticks to their themes really well.

Marne Orenich

Why, thank you, Victoria! I’m so glad you enjoy my reviews! 🙂
