NSFW SlutBox by Amber Rose Review – December 2019
SlutBox by Amber Rose is a lifestyle and beauty subscription geared towards sex-positive people (often containing lube, condoms, pasties, and other sex-forward items). It’s $29.99 a month and tends to be a little controversial because of its name as well as some of the items included. They’ve just gotten a box update, so “SLUTBOX” is no longer on the front of the box- it’s now inside.
NSFW – this post may not be safe to read at work due to the name.
My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

SlutBox by Amber Rose December 2019 Review
The theme for December was Ice Ice Baby and I’m not sure that has anything to do with any of the products included. Since they are behind on shipping, this box came on February 10th.
Azlo Lashes in Radiant – Retail Value $24.97 (currently on sale for $19.97)
These lashes from Azlo are the hero product of the box and the only item called out on the info card. I’ve never been a false lashes gal, but I know that Savannah is a fan, so I may pass these on to her. The presentation of these is really nice and they come in a faux marble box that has a magnetic closure so you can keep these safe in-between wears. I do wish they came with a small tube of lash glue, but anyone who regularly wears lashes probably already has some. The style I received is called “radiant” and they are quite long. Like all of their lashes, they’re made with a cotton band and vegan materials (fur-free). These lashes come with simple instructions as well so if you’re a newbie, you have a guide on how to apply.
Leven Rose Jamaican Black Castor Oil – Retail Value $29.97 (currently on sale for $9.97)
This begins the “Winter Wonderland” portion of the box in which MUVA sends her “favorite” items from past boxes. The castor oil above originally came in the July 2019 SlutBox and is a great product. It has a ton of uses from the skin to hair and even eyelashes. This oil with hydrate and soften whatever you put it on and is 100% pure castor oil.
Rude Cosmetics Pickle My Face Hydrogel Mask – Retail Value $3.50
This sheet mask also made its SlutBox debut in the July 2019 box. I remember being off-put by the whole pickle thing, but it turns out that its just a cucumber mask which is much more appealing. The hydrogel mask comes in two pieces that you put onto your face separately which can make for a better fit. Since I’ve tried this one before, I’ll probably save it for later or pass it to a friend who wants a hydrating mask.
Demeter Fragrance Library Roll-on Perfume Oil in Amber, 0.33 oz. – Retail Value $12.00+ (Buy a 0.29 oz for $12.00)
I was a fan of Demeter back in the day because they have such unique fragrances. This fragrance called “Amber” is of course fitting and was sent with the September 2018 box in the past. Right on the bottle, it says “free gift” so I’m guessing this is a size that isn’t normally available. The roll-on is always a good idea in my book because it’s harder to overdo it when putting it on. The fragrance has a sweet citrusy vibe to it but is also very warm. Perhaps Megan, the fragrance queen, will appreciate this one more than me.
Raeka Beauty Turmeric Sandalwood Peel-Off Mask, 2.5 oz. – Retail Value $29.50
Ah yes, the turmeric peel-off mask is back! I’ve gotten this full-size version in the turmeric lemon scent back in September 2019 and a smaller version in January 2019 of turmeric cucumber. So, the scent is new but the product is familiar. Like the bottle in the past, this has an overwhelming plastic scent to it when I open it and give it a little whiff. This particular mask is supposed to be good for acne-prone skin and anti-aging properties. Once again, the price on this is a little shocking since the presentation isn’t great.
Mane Club Babe Alert 5-in-1 Deep Conditioner, 1.8 oz – Retail Value $3.99
This is another one that is sort of a repeat product, although I got a different variation in the past. Back in October of 2019, I received the Wild Thang Deep Conditioner from Mane Club that is similar but with a different scent and slightly different results. This made my hair very nice and I appreciate that I can find it at Ulta since it makes it feel more reputable. Also- I gotta love that cute Millenial packaging! I’m estimating that I’ll get about 3+ washes out of this hefty little pouch.
SOO’AE New York Intensive Repair 3 Day Hair Treatment – Retail Value $5.00
This is the first product I’ve identified as one of the three “Sugar n’ Spice” items of the box via the info card. A so-called “extra item” in the December box, this trio is an intense 3-day hair treatment with a different deep conditioning mask in each pouch. All three are to be used after shampooing and should be left on for 5-10 minutes before rinsing. The first has tea tree and rosemary, the second has avocado and honey, and the third has argan oil. I tell you what- winter must be the season for hair masks because I can’t escape them! I haven’t heard of this Korean brand before but I will gladly try it eventually to see how it treats my hair.
SOO’AE New York Hydration Sensor Alert Mask – Retail Value $6.00 (currently on sale for $3.00)
The second extra item is a sheet mask from the same brand as the hair treatment pack. The “hydration sensor alert” is in the form of golden stars on the sheet mask that apparently change color based on moisture levels. I’m not sure I believe that and perhaps it’s just a heat thing? I don’t know. It had stars on it when I unfolded it, but upon putting it on my face (it fits rather well) the stars were nowhere to be seen. After wearing the mask for 15 minutes, the stars reappeared and looked grey although I’m not sure what that means. I was surprised at how watery the essence of this mask was. It’s not as thick as the serums on others, but it did seem to hydrate my face so I think this was a decent mask with a unique element.
Cora Trial Kit
I find this to be one of the better items from the box although it’s a promo/trial pack of some sort. I think somewhere in my subscription life I’ve probably tried out Cora but I’m not sure. If nothing else, they have beautiful minimal packaging and nice marketing that I often see on Instagram. In the kit I found 1 of each size of tampon (lite, regular, super, and super plus), a period liner, a regular pad, and a body cloth. I’ve already used the panty liner and reg tampon (even though I am a menstrual cup gal) which came in handy in a pinch. Along with selling fragrance-free feminine products that use organic cotton, they provide pads and health education to girls in need with each purchase made. That’s definitely something I can get behind. The card that came along with it has a URL to a dead link (that uses “blessbox”- the plot thickens) so the one-month free redemption is not able to be collected.
Verdict: Like last month, items from past boxes made up a good portion of December’s late SlutBox. Out of nine total items, five were repeats from past boxes, one was new (the lashes) and three were “extra” items that had a listed value of $20. I could only find prices for the two SOO’AE products which totaled $11 and the Cora pack was great but def seemed like a promo pack that would be handed out as a free gift. Overall- I think this would be good for someone who just started subbing, but I wasn’t super impressed with the box just because (like always) there wasn’t a cohesive theme and it just seemed like leftover stock and some were the type of gifts I’d be getting free from a trade show or something. The total retail value without the Cora kit is $114.93 but I’m skeptical about some of the retail prices, to be honest. With this box- I think if you like what you see in this review, it may be a good fit. I just think $29.99 might be a little steep.
