Bonjour Jolie February 2020 "Mardi Gras" Review

This month's Bonjour Jolie box theme is "Mardi Gras" and they included this card which details all of the items we received in our box. This box was jam-packed full of festive goodies for us to celebrate right at home!

Let's start with the goods. All of your menstrual products will come in a discreet bag that usually fits within our theme. This gold fleur de lis pattern feels festive enough to me!

When you sign up, you can choose up to 20 different menstrual products in any combination of tampons, pads, and liners. They offer a great selection of items from brands like Always, Kotex, and OB. You can check their selection out before you commit though, in case you are someone who has a preferred brand.

Seventh Generation Ultra-Thin Overnight Pads (20) - Buy 28 for $7.99

You can change your selections at any time by editing your profile, but keep in mind there might be a delay if you need to switch up your needs each month. The ability to switch it up is what I really like about this box and the fact that you can try new things without committing to an entire box of products. I now use a menstrual cup during this time, but I like to have a little extra protection overnight, so I'm happy they had a choice that was free from dyes, fragrances, and chlorine for me.

Summer's Eve Fresh Cycle Cleansing Cloths (2) - Buy a pack of 14 for $2.99

They send cleansing cloths like these each month which is nice because I have a great little stash for when I might need them to freshen up.

Advil To-Go Packs (2) – Buy 50 2-packs for $9.98

These little packets each have two pills, just enough to help with cramps or headaches while on the go.

To get us started on our theme they included three strings of Mardi Gras beads. There were also some fleur de lis sequins in our box for some added fun!

Bodyography Electric Lip Slide in Lip Sink – Retail Value $20.00

While it might seem a little wild (but fitting) to send a bright purple lip product, I am actually really loving it! This paraben- and gluten-free lippie is a cross between a stain, gloss, and lipstick. It glides on so smoothly and is actually moisturizing to my dry lips since it has natural avocado, shea, and cocoa butter along with vitamin E, meaning I can apply it without having to add lip balm first. The color is really quite subtle, although I could definitely build it up to a vibrant purple if I wanted to. It also has a slight pineapple scent to it that I enjoyed.

Here it is swatched.

You can see the color is subtle but still gives that purple tint.

King Cake Body Scrub by Blissful Apothecary, 4 oz - Listed Value $6.00

How cute is this little king cake body scrub? The details on this one are great with the cake shape, sprinkles, and cute little case! Once the sugar melted off in the shower, this scrub was more like a bar of soap since there were no exfoliants inside the actual cake part. The scent was tropical and fruity, but not too strong, and it left my skin feeling squeaky clean.

Royal Crown Cola, 12 oz - Listed Value $1.00 (Buy a 12 pack for $3.33)

Our drink this month is a full can of RC Cola, which is a southern version of soda that is said to go well with another southern treat we received this month, Moon Pie! To learn more, check out this interesting read I found!

Elmer's Jumbo Dry Roasted Peanuts, 2 oz - Listed Value $1.00 (Buy 50 bags for $32.00)

This package of jumbo peanuts comes in a festive Mardi Gras throw bag and contains shelled peanuts. My kids had fun being introduced to this concept and I thought the peanuts tasted fresh and delicious!

The rest of our goodies came packaged together in this mesh bag. Look at all of those southern treats!

Elmer's CheeWees Cheese Curls, 0.875 oz - Listed Value $1.00 (Buy twelve 2 oz bags for $49.99)

This item comes from the same family-owned company as our peanuts. We love our cheese curls in this house, so these were a welcome treat! My son didn't enjoy them since they were a bit different than the Cheeto brand, but my daughter liked them. I thought they were pretty good, but I had to agree with my son, they weren't quite the same. I love that they included this New Orleans-based treat for us to try!

Mini Moon Pies (2) - Listed Value $1.00 (Buy a 36 count tub for $16.99)

Here we have two cute little Moon Pie minis. They recommend warming these up and drinking them with an ice-cold RC Cola. The chocolate one went down easy, but I wasn't a huge fan of the banana one. We didn't quite make it to warming them up, but we enjoyed them anyhow!

Tobasco Sauce, 1/8 oz - Retail Value $0.57

How cute is this itty bitty bottle of Tobasco? This is a staple in our house and it looks like you can find one of their country stores in New Orleans.

Aunt Sally's Creamy Pralinette, 0.65 oz - Listed Value $1.33 (Buy a box of 12 for $15.99)

This praline is handmade in New Orleans and it was so good! It was definitely very sweet, but it had the right balance of creamy, sugary sweetness and pecans. This was delicious and it looks like they make them in chocolate, too! Yum!

Louisiana Praline Factory Kween Cake, 1.3 oz - Listed Value $1.00 (Buy one for $3.25, but no size is indicated!)

I have never had King Cake before so I am not sure how this little cake stacks up, but I thought it was delicious! It was so moist and had a great flavor! It was sweet and sugary, although I didn't pick up on any cinnamon that I know of, which is usually what these cakes are flavored with along with brown sugar. I thought I picked up a fruity note, but can't be sure.

Elmer's Gold Brick Egg, 1 oz. - Listed Value $1.00 (Buy 12 for $17.99)

The last item was another new treat to me and is apparently a Louisiana favorite. This pecan melt-a-way egg is made of solid, yet creamy chocolate with pecans in the center. This was another really tasty item, although after eating the pralinette first, it didn't taste quite as sweet to me!

Verdict: How fabulous was this month's Bonjour Jolie theme? They did such a great job curating this one and it felt like my own little Mardi Gras festival wrapped up in a box! I loved being able to try so many delicious New Orleans treats and thought all of the little touches were so nicely done. My family is actually planning a trip to New Orleans for the first time next month and now I am even more excited knowing all of the delicious goodies I'll have to stock up on! As for the total value of this box using a mix of listed and found retail values, I came up with $40.44 which is awesome for such a thoughtful curation that costs $24.48 ($16.50 + $0.99 tax + $6.99 shipping)!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

Brandi do you know what they send if someone chooses the sugar-free option? I would love to know!

Hi Kaara, I am not sure what they would send for a sugar-free option, especially in a box like this month’s where there were a lot of sugary treats! I imagine it would be difficult to find substitutes to still fit within the theme! I have always had a great experience with customer service though, so I would recommend reaching out to them to see if they can provide some examples of items they have sent in the past! 😊

This is my favorite subscription box and I have signed up for most all of them at some point. If I was to only keep one subscription, it would be this one. It is always a surprise and just makes me happy 🙂
