Bookroo Board Book January 2020 Review

Bookroo sends the books individually wrapped each month which is such a nice treat. I love the floral paper this month!

Bookroo always includes an insert that gives a brief description of the books you receive with the board book box selections listed on one side and the picture book box selections on the other. They encourage you to share your books on social media and to leave a review of your book.

My First Touch and Find Zoo by Allison Black - Retail Value $8.95

I really liked this book! It has so much going on for every age. Not only does it have various textures for little hands and large flaps to open as you meet various animals at the zoo, but on the reverse of the flap it asks the kids comprehension and memory questions such as "who just got very wet?" and the child has to remember that it was the zookeeper or even one page where it asks how many butterflies were on the previous page. An older child may be able to answer while a younger child can flip back and forth to answer. There were also lots of bright colors and cute animals! My kids all liked this one.

Hamsters on the Go by Kass Reich - Retail Value $9.95

This was a silly book with a Dr. Seuss feel to it as these hamsters are on the go in this story told in rhyme. There were unicycles, submarines, and even a parade float, all of which delighted my kids as they saw the silly hamsters on each one. I really loved the muted retro feel of the color scheme and thought the illustrations were cute as well! It was also super easy to read thanks to the simplicity of it.

Mrs. Peanuckle's Tree Alphabet by Mrs. Peanuckle - Retail Value $7.99 (found here for $6.99)

We were actually just reading Mrs. Peanuckle's Bug Alphabet the night before this arrived and I was thinking how I would love to get another book from her collection! I was very excited to open this one knowing how the kids and I would enjoy it. These books are full of strange and new trees that I've never heard of before along with some common trees that my kids recognized as well. I love how educational these little books are while still being fun and reinforcing letter recognition! The style of the text and the contrast of the colors also make it so interesting to look at as you read.

Verdict: This month's board books from Bookroo were pretty great! We are so excited to have another Mrs. Peanuckle book for our library and I know it will get read often. The Hamster book provided some silly fun and is one of those rhyming books that tend to stick with you so I'm sure it will become a favorite it no time as well. I also thought the zoo book had a lot to offer with its flaps, textures, and great questions.  The total retail value of our books comes to $26.89 which is just over the$24.94 ($19.95 a month + $4.99 shipping) cost of our box. Since board books retail for so much lower, they are not always the best bang for your buck, but in this case, we received some great books, so that also adds to the value for me!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
