Detox Box Review - December 2019

The Detox Box
3.8 overall rating

The Detox Box is a green beauty subscription box from The Detox Market that costs $55/month. You'll usually receive 2-3 products from a featured brand each month that follow their strict ingredient standards and help you discover non-toxic ways to continue your beauty routine. What I love about this subscription is that I can try popular and undiscovered brands alike at a really good value!

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

The Detox Box December 2019 Review feat. Odacité

Like every Detox Box, you'll receive two cards with your products. One introduces the featured brand (Odacité) and has a short Q+A with the founder Valerie Grandury, and the other card details the four products that Detox Market has curated this month.

Odacité Bioactive Rose Gommage, 1.69 oz. - Retail Value $62.00

The first thing I noticed was this unique container. The lid pops off and you need to gently press on the white part (which is essentially a huge pump) to dispense a bit of thick pink gel from the jar. I also love that this came with its own brush which is somehow very rare for masks. Why? I don't know- but it's nice to receive one instead of having to purchase a brush from elsewhere. Once I had a clean face in the evening, I gently pressed the white top of this jar to dispense a bit of the hot pink gommage. I took the brush and picked up the dispensed product to then slather onto my skin. I repeated this several times until I had a thin layer completely covered my face. The tricky part for me is that to use as a gommage, I am to leave it on only long enough until it's slightly tacky (not completely dry) and then start to roll it off with my fingertips so that it starts pilling. That's tricky because some of it is drier and some of it is still wet, so I found it tough to get the sweet spot. I ended up just using this as a mask which means I let it dry completely (at least 10 minutes) before washing it off with warm water. When drying, it becomes tight and starts to give my skin some funny wrinkles. Once clean, my skin felt really nice and fresh! The scent is a very light rose which I very much enjoy and I'd say this was overall a nice experience!

Odacité Ca R Vital Glow Wild Carrot Serum Concentrate, 0.17 oz. - Retail Value $58.00

O hai, this is my new favorite serum. Is carrot having a moment now in skincare? Because I've been noticing it creeping up like never before. This little bottle of pure carrot seed oil has a ton of vitamin A which is supposed to pump up my skin's glow. Not only do I love the way this smells (carrot-y), but it really seems to penetrate my skin and give it a boost. I've been mostly using this before bed and using the dropper to dispense product directly onto my cheeks, chin, and forehead. Sometimes it seems like I've added too much, but after gently spreading and patting it in, my skin drinks it all up. In lieu of using it on its own, they suggest adding a few drops to your moisturizer for a little boost. I may try that once it gets warmer out. Overall- I think this product delivers on the glow it claims to produce.

Verdict: The Detox Box this month simplified winter care with two products. I was blown away by the hydration and glow that the CaR vital glow wild carrot serum delivered and the rose gommage/mask was delicate and lovely. This is a brand I'd definitely look into trying more of! The retail value of this box is $120 which I think is fantastic for a box that costs $55.
