PLAY! Luxe by Sephora Volume 6 Review

Here is the info sheet for the bag. I'm not going to lie- I was a bit disappointed no 50 point perks pass was included.

Here is the bag everything came in! Normally I love the PLAY! Luxe bags, but this one isn't my favorite because it looks like a lot of other makeup bags I have already.

La Mer The Moisturizing Soft Cream, 7 ml - Estimated Value $42 (Buy the 15 ml version for $90)

I’ll use La Mer Samples, but I don’t really buy into the hype. I personally don’t find this moisturizer strongly fragranced (there is a light perfume scent I don’t mind), but I know a lot of MSA readers have complained about the fragrance in La Mer products. That being said, added fragrance in skincare is never really necessary, so you’d think a brand that charges $180 per ounce (!!!!) would take more care in its ingredients choices. I do like that the first ingredient is algae extract (something I don't see often; most skincare products have water as their first ingredient), but personally I believe you could find a comparable moisturizer for under $60.

Giorgio Armani Beauty Rouge d’Armani Matte Lipstick in 102 Androgino, 1.4 g - Estimated Value $13.30 (Buy the 4 g version for $28)

I already have a lot of lipsticks that I love, and yet as soon as I applied this I fell in love again. Androgino is described as an antique rose, and it does a great job of being a neutral nude with a hint of pink rose to balance it. It’s comfortable to wear, and it lasted through random appetizers that were being passed around at the event I attended- sliders and mini crab cakes (on a spoon!) didn't cause my lipstick to budge one bit.

Givenchy Volume Disturbia Mascara, 0.14 oz - Estimated Value $13.50 (Buy the 0.28 oz version for $27)

I’ll just come out and say it- this is my new holy grail mascara. I review a lot of mascaras, and this gives me the curl, volume, lift, and definition that I usually have to use multiple mascaras to achieve. It doesn’t smudge on me or irritate my eyes, and each day when I reach for it I am impressed with the end results of using just this mascara instead of my usual routine of layering different mascaras.

Here I am dolled up wearing both the mascara and the lipstick.

And here I am wearing just the mascara along with some toned-down makeup.

Yves Saint Laurent TOP SECRETS Instant Moisture Glow, 5 ml - Estimated Value $5.26 (Buy the 38 ml version for $40)

I didn't fully understand this- is it a moisturizer? Is it a primer? Am I the only person who layers their skincare as moisturizer, sunscreen, and then primer? How does a priming moisturizer fit into this equation? Ultimately, I ended up mixing this with my foundation, and I did think it added a boost of glow to my matte foundation formula.

Kérastase Nutritive Shampoo for Dry Hair, 50 ml - Estimated Value $10.63 (Buy the 80 ml version for $17)

Usually hair care products that aren’t specifically designed for curly hair disappoint me, but this shampoo for dry hair actually worked well. I don't recommend this for those who follow the curly girl method because it contains sulfates, but if you have dry hair and no curls I definitely say give this a try.

Kérastase Nutritive Conditioner for Normal to Dry Hair, 30 ml - Estimated Value $6.80 (Buy the 75 ml version for $19)

This isn't the most hydrating conditioner I have ever used, but it still performed well for me. If you don't have thick, curly hair I think you'll be happy with the nourishment this provides without weighing hair down. I will say, though, that I want to meet the person in the beauty industry who decided shampoo samples should always be bigger than their conditioner counterpart and have a little chat...

Dior Miss Dior Eau de Parfum, 5 ml - Estimated Value $12.50 (Buy the 30 ml version for $75)

First off, I love that instead of a small vial we received a true mini of this gorgeous perfume- the bottle is too cute. this perfume has notes of bergamot, Grasse rose, and rosewood, and I like the floral feminity this perfume gives me.

Verdict: I think this box will truly be a hit or miss. If you love La Mer products that one sample alone is worth the cost of the box, or if you're like me you'll find your new favorite lipstick and mascara (I have already ordered both in the full size from Sephora thanks to a Christmas gift card). The rest of the items, though, fell a little flat. Sephora did meet its promise of a $92 value, with a total value of $103.99 for everything in the box.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you order today? Unfortunately, this box is sold out.

Value Breakdown: This box cost $25, which means you're paying approximately the following per item:

  • La Mer: $10.09
  • Armani Beauty: $3.19
  • Givenchy: $3.24
  • YSL:  $1.26
  • Shampoo: $2.55
  • Conditioner: $1.63
  • Dior: $3

I got this bag as my last Rouge splurge. I like it enough. I never considered La Mer anything special, as well.

Is there an MSA alert for Sephora Play Luxe Boxes? I always used to buy these but I didn’t get an email from Sephora this time. I’m sure it’s because I’m no longer subscribed to Play. The Luxe boxes used to be nice though. I still use a few of the older bags daily.

I guess I missed it here. Thanks.

I also do moisturizer, sunscreen, then primer so no you aren’t the only one. We may be the only two people that do it ….but at least you aren’t alone😁

I’m confused how else is it done?

Emilia

Primer goes on before foundation.

I don’t get the La Mer hype, either. I think it’s a cream that’s expensive just for the sake of being expensive that people buy if they can, because they can. I mean, it’s fine, but like you said, you can find something comparable for cheaper.

How do I buy this !???

Nat

It’s been sold out for a long time. It was only available for 2 days or so before it sold out

What a waste of $25! I’ve gotten 4 of the items from this kit from Sephora points/ codes for free.

Be careful what you waste money on. Most stuff piles up! Make Up & Skin Care have a shelf life! It goes bad. Like throwing it in the trash.

Wow! Your makeup looks lovely and that mascara is amazing! Thanks for the 2nd pic that really showcases your lashes. I don’t think I will be able to resist ordering it because mascara is my favorite makeup product by far and I am ALWAYS searching for a better mascara, especially one that can curl AND volumize my long but very straight and sparse blonde lashes.
