Nomadik "Day-Trip Essentials" November 2019 Review

There is a small trifold pamphlet that goes over the six items included in this month's box, plus Nomadik Tips, the Nomadik Challenge, and a few discount codes for some outdoors brands.

They've also sent a branded Nomadik sticker this month that has a cute camping scene in green and yellow.

Bennkai Collapsible Backpack - Retail Value $40.00

Whoa- this backpack is awesome! It's so handy that it folds up into a little pouch that only measures 9 x 8 inches so that you can bring it on a trip to use later and even has a little handle and zipper pocket. Once it's expanded, that zipper pocket ends up on the inside of the front pocket of the pack. Magic! This black backpack is great for hiking since it's made of really lightweight nylon and has lightly padded straps for comfort. On the front of the pack, you'll also find a loop to hang a hat, camping mug, or anything else you want to keep on the outside to make more room inside the pack. On either side is a mesh pocket that's perfect for a water bottle or whatever you want quick access to while walking. This is exactly the kind of item I like to see from Nomadik and is helpful for a beginner like me.

Morakniv 511 High Carbon Utility Knife - Retail Value $10.95 (found here for $7.95)

Although this isn't an expensive item, I can't help but get geeked to receive a cool utility knife! I don't know why I'm so drawn to knives lately, but here we are. This bright red and black plastic carbon knife hails from Sweden and comes with its own matching red sheath. The sheath has a belt or pocket clip on the back so you can attach it to your person rather easily. The front of the sheath has a nubbin that allows you to hook on more knives. A novice like me isn't sure why I'd need multiple knives all hanging off one another, but I'm sure it's handy for someone! The hard plastic grip on this bad boy is comfortable and I like that it feels sturdy without being very heavy. Tip to base, it's eight inches long, with the blade being a nice 3.5 inches. I can see using this on a camping trip to cut up kindling for a fire or to keep on hand in the event I need to cut some rope, whittle a little effigy, or simply open some bags of food.

Nite lze S-Biner Microlock (Plastic), set of 2 - Retail Value $2.79

Lastly, Nomadik has sent a 2-pack of some useful mini S-biner clips. These two clips are clear blue plastic and measure 1.5 inches long. What is most useful about them is that they lock once you turn the black piece so that the metal parts can't accidentally open up and let go of whatever you're holding. These can be used simply for keys, to hang light camping items out of reach, or just to connect a couple of things you want to keep together. I can see using these to dangle additional items off of my pack.

Verdict: Nomadik has really been stepping it up the past couple of months and this one has to be one of my favorites thus far. Getting a backpack and a great utility knife in one box is perfect and exactly what I expect from an outdoors box. I'll find much use out of all three items included this November and am excited to see what they send for January. (I'm hoping for a camping mug!) This box has a total retail value of $53.74 which is $15 over the cost of the box.

We just got the January box, and I wish I had read these reviews. A box came, with a 2oz sample of liquid soap, some hand cream, and a little shower bag to put it in. No wrappings, no excitement, no effort. And the “challenge” was to post a picture of the box on THEIR instagram. If you take a moment to look at instagram, they are all photographs of THEM. Anything else submitted that doesn’t fit their idea of what is appropriate must be instantly removed. I sent them a demand to cancel 2 times, haven’t heard back. Will contact PayPal to be sure. Also curious that they take payment on the 4th of the month, don’t mail till approximately the 25-27th, and cancellation just be done by the 1st of the next month…

I’ve received the Active Skin Repair in gel form in a previous box. At that time I too didn’t think much of it. Over time my husband and I were using it all the time. It works really well. When I saw it offered again in this month box I grab it. Oddly the only retail stores near me that sell are surf stores. I can’t rate the spray form yet but I ‘m hoping for the same results. Please give the Active Skin Repair a chance.

Anyone thinking of subscribing, please read my comments on the review of the November 2019 box. Although their boxes can be great, it is near impossible to get any customer service from them, including cancelling your subscription. If there is a problem with your box, forget it. That is your problem. I can’t tell you how many emails I had sent about a problem with one of my boxes, many of which were ignored, and then finally they did answer, said they would fix the problem, but never did. Truly abysmal service.
