Look Fantastic Black Friday Limited Edition Box Review

Luxie 504 Large Angled Brush - Retail Value $18

I have a large collection of Luxie brushes thanks to subscription boxes, and I am a-okay with that. I am a firm believer in waiting until it is socially unacceptable to wash my makeup brushes, and I need a big collection of brushes to make that possible. This brush picks up powder well, doesn't shed, and holds up well to being washed (I know this because I already have this exact brush).

Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta Exfoliating Moisturizer, 0.5 oz - Estimated Value $17 (Buy the 2 oz version for $68)

I know Dr. Dennis Gross for his exfoliating peels, but this moisturizer was a new product for me. This has alpha hydroxy acids like lactic and glycolic acid, and the fourth ingredient is squalane which helps your skin to retain its moisture. This has a lightweight texture that layered well in my skincare routine, and though it has a lot of active ingredients it didn't irritate my skin. Overall, I thought this was a really nice moisturizer that I would be happy to use again in the future.

Eve Lom Cleansing Balm, 8 ml - Estimated Value $9.60 (Buy the 20 ml version for $24)

The Eve Lom cleansing balm is definitely on the luxe end of cleansing balms, and I always enjoy getting to use it. This cleanser is scented, though not unpleasantly, which always feels a little unnecessary, but this does a great job of cleansing my skin without leaving it stripped or dry.

Ciaté Glow-To Highlighter in Solstice, 0.17 oz -  Retail Value $32

This full-size highlighter costs the same as this entire box which is always a plus. Solstice is a purple/pink duo-chrome highlighter, and the color was actually more subtle than I was expecting (and thus, more wearable). I wouldn't wear this highlighter to work, but it adds a nice boost of light to an otherwise average face of makeup.

Eyeko Eye Do Mini Liner - Retail Value $12

Oh, Eyeko. There is nothing wrong with you but I am so tired of seeing you. This is your standard jet-black liquid eyeliner, and it doesn't irritate my occasionally sensitive eyes. I personally prefer the Eyeko Skinny over the Eye Do because I like to get a super thin line, but the pen gives me good control over lining my eyes.

Pixi Shea Butter Lip Balm in Scarlet Sorbet, 0.14 oz – Retail Value $8

I am a big fan of Pixi products (especially their skincare!). This lip balm has beeswax, shea butter, and vitamin E to nourish lips while having enough pigment to give my lips a nice wash of color.

Here is the lip balm swatched above the highlighter and eyeliner

We Are Paradoxx Hangover Hair Elixir, 0.5 oz - Estimated Value $6.92 (Buy the 2.53 oz version for $35)

Let me just start off by saying the packaging on this makes me happy. The ingredients on this made my hair happy, too, with coconut oil, argan oil, and Irish whiskey among the heavy hitters that add moisture and shine to dry hair. I only needed a small amount and enjoyed the softness it added to my hair when I finger combed it through damp strands.

Seoulista Beauty Charcoal Mask - Retail Value $10.70

This sheet mask is made of bio-cellulose (my favorite, after hydrogel) and is infused with charcoal and volcanic ash for the purifying effect of a mud mask without the actual mess of one. This didn't dry my skin out the way some charcoal products can, though I do think it is a bit pricy for a sheet mask.

Naobay Radiance Body Lotion, 8.45 oz - Retail Value $18

I really liked this body lotion. It's made with aloe vera, shea butter, and avocado oil, and the packaging is made of recycled plastic. This was really hydrating to the parched skin on my legs and didn't leave them greasy, and I appreciate that it didn't have a strong scent that would compete with my perfume.

Crystal Clear 10 Minute Glow, 25 ml - Estimated Value $9.33 (Buy the 100 ml version for $37.30)

This mask was a miss for me. I am a pretty harsh judge of peel-off masks because they often can do more harm than good, and I didn't enjoy this enough on my patch test to want to apply it all over my face. Ingredients include papaya extract and lemon, and it does have added fragrance.

The Verdict: I always look forward to the limited edition boxes created for Black Friday and the holiday season, and this box from Look Fantastic was great. Other than the peel-off mask, none of the items were a miss for me, and the Naobay lotion and Ciaté highlighter were my two stars. Value-wise, I calculated a total value of $141.55.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you order today? No, this limited edition box is sold out

Value Breakdown: At $32.00 for this box, here is what you are paying approximately per item:

  • Luxie: $4.07

  • Eve Lom: $2.17
  • Ciaté: $7.23
  • We Are Paradoxx: $1.56

I liked this box enough to buy it for $6 after applying my credits. My favourite item would be the body lotion. The hair elixir is indeed very cute.

I am usually happy with the boxes. I do feel second class because I decided to pay by the season instead of annually. There is a huge difference made two.
I have had to contact CS twice and they were outstanding. Very helpful and kind.

Oh, they were kind, prompt, and polite…they just refused to replace a damaged item.

I had a similar ridiculously bad experience with CS when a Macy’s Box item was damaged & they, too, said they were “out”, despite it being in stock in their website. Even politely asking for her supervisor was to no avail getting a replacement. They obviously didn’t care less & I cancelled the subscription, which up to that point I enjoyed. Globein, JourneeBox and FabFitFun have amazing customer service!

This is more of an aside note regarding LF’s CS. I purchased this box and, the hero item, the Ciate highlighter, was shattered (the product, not the compact). I contacted LF and the first CS rep said that they would replace the product. The following day I get a second message from a different rep stating that LF was ‘out’ of that product (no, it was not out…it was available in the Ciate section on their site in all shades) and that they could not replace it. I explained that they were not out of the item and that I would be happy with any shade. A couple of days later I got another message from a third different CS rep whereby I was offered $2.14 credit for the broken highlighter. I tried to ‘fight’ this, to no avail. I finally accepted the offer because it was that or nothing. So, bottom line here…LF will mess with you on not replacing damaged items. I love their boxes and I’m an annual subscriber. I’ve also made multiple purchases from their site over the past year. None of that mattered. Caveat emptor.

I just received a broken item in my January box and they sent me an entire New box! I have never had problems with customer service in the entire 5 years I have been subbed.

Alice

Well, their ‘justification’ against replacement of the box was because it’s LE. I definitely only wanted replacement of the one broken item. It bugs the hell out of me.

Callmeinge

If there’s a problem their CS is not good. I once had 1 missing item in my box & they just said sorry & some copy paste generic answer. After I argue they give me $5 credit as the final result. No replacement.

I commiserate. My payback to them will be no renewal and no purchases.

GMForever

I’m not surprised. I have had the same treatment From LF and Glossybox (all The HUT group)
They have the worst CS. I try to avoid them.

Alice

I’m definitely not renewing when this annual expires.

Alice

BTW, that 10 minute glow was horrible.

FWIW, I’ve seen the Eve Lom cleanser set at Marshall’s a few times lately.
