GlobeIn January 2020 "Bonjour" Box Review

Each box from GlobeIn contains a booklet that talks more about the theme for the box and the items inside. This little booklet is almost as valuable to me as the items inside the box, because it gives background on each piece and often includes names and photos of the artisans behind them. I absolutely love knowing more about the products and the hands that crafted each item.

Time to check out our handmade goodies. Just a heads up, since there aren't prices listed in the booklet for the items, I'm going off the prices given in this GlobeIn spoilers post for items I couldn't find online. Also worth noting is that there were two box variants this month!

Collapsible Breakfast Tray, India - Listed Value $45.00

Measurements: 20" L x 10" W x 7" H

Materials: Mango and composite woods.

Wow! This feels like a big-ticket item for this box. It is a full-size breakfast tray made out of really lovely mango wood. The legs tuck away so you can also use it as a normal tray because of those built-in handles. I am one of those people who likes to use her laptop while on the couch, and I always shove a random book underneath it when it gets hot, so this is certainly an upgrade. It might be an excuse to try out breakfast in bed on the weekends too.

Ceramic Egg Cup, Morocco - Listed Value $12.00

Measurements: 6" D

Materials: Stoneware ceramic.

I have to admit that I likely won't use this super often for eggs, because it is really awesome for my gouache and watercolor paints. The little well in the middle holds the perfect amount of water for a quick session and the rounded rim has plenty of room for laying and mixing colors. The raised edge also makes sure none of that paint escapes!

Handpainted Recycled Glass Beldi Cup, Morocco - Listed Value $35.00

Measurements: 4" T x 2.5" D

Materials: Handblown recycled glass, finished and handpainted.

I really like hand-painted juice cups like this because they feel really nostalgic. My Nana has a similarly shaped set that I grew up using. The pale blush, white, and blue feel positively Parisian, and the little dotted edge is adorable. I know I am being selfish here, but I wish this was a set of 4 because I like them so much!

Ceramic Bud Vase,  Morocco - Listed Value - $15.00

Measurements:  6" T

Materials: Stoneware ceramic.

This was the only item that fell a little flat for me this month. I absolutely love bud vases, and the chubby round shape of this one is way cute. I just wish the paint had been less uniform, and maybe more pattern-based. The ceramics that come in this subscription always have this hand-painted quality that makes them feel extra special, and while I love this shade of blue, I miss seeing the actual strokes of the maker's paintbrush.

Two-Tone Hammer Spoon, India - Listed Value $8.00

Measurements:  5" L.

Materials: Stainless steel and gold-plated stainless steel.

How freaking cute is this egg spoon! The end is a tiny hammer for cracking your egg! I might have to use the egg cup as an egg cup now, just to use this with it. The little brass hammer has a nice amount of weight behind it too, meaning go easy on that eggshell!

The Verdict: GlobeIn was really great this month. It was basically a bed in breakfast complete kit, minus the yummy food. Compared to some of my more recent boxes, it felt really over the top. I am excited to use each of these items on a luxurious Sunday morning, though I probably will have to serve myself food then hop back into bed, preferably with Netflix ready for a binge session.

To Wrap Up:

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

Nice box but looks like it’s not available anymore.

It might be available again next month. Each month you get a window to choose a box theme. I’m still waiting on my Dec box (as they ship at the end of the month), but I wanted the Amore box instead of the Bonjour theme. I had to choose Redeem and then use the points to get the other box since it wasn’t one of the ones listed as a direct box theme swap (which is arguably a bit of a pain), but my point is this box is likely to be available – or specific items of it – if it’s something you want. I got the Black Friday deal on the sub and I’m not thrilled with it enough to keep it up after my initial pre-paid 3 months, but there are many options as to what you can pick.

I’m still waiting for my December box. Pretty much over this subscription

I just got mine yesterday. I’ve subbed for a few years now and since they don’t ship until the last week of the month anyways they get extra behind in November and December because of Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays/shut down…on top of the extra orders for the holiday season. It does get frustrating. I’m looking forward to it hopefully calming down and getting back to normal soon. LOL.

Just wondering…. I’ve only seen anyone eat an egg from an egg cup in the movies. Maybe it’s a regional thing, but does anyone use them?

I grew up using them daily in Germany. It was a staple as much as cereal and pancakes are here. When I went to Ireland and stayed at a bed and breakfast they were served the same way as well…..

I have several. I grew up eating soft boiled eggs with my grandmother, and by extension my mother. I love them and they’re a very quick breakfast to make so it’s a win-win for me.

I must admit that I think they idea of using this one as a palette for painting is brilliant!

I grew up using an egg cup for soft boiled eggs. My mother is from the South and my father grew up in the North. Don’t know if it is a regional thing or not. Mama would make toast and cut in strips so we could dip our strips into the yolk and would finish off with a spoon. I purchased one of the egg cookers and when I receive my box I will start cooking soft boiled eggs and using the items from the box.

Many Europeans still use egg cups

My dad used to use one to eat his soft boiled eggs on Saturday/Sunday mornings while he read the paper (convenient to hold the egg while you do something else). I have vivid memories of that. He probably still would use one if mom let him eat soft boiled eggs…he retired and she said she retired from cooking things she doesn’t eat too. LOL.

Have him get an egg cooker and he can fix his own. Really simple to use.
P.S. I can relate to your mother’s philosophy on cooking.

I have one I got when I was in London many years ago. I use it when I eat a soft boiled egg.

Cute items but they look very small would to have like to have seen them next to something like a dollar bill so we could get a idea of how big they are.

I love wooden decorative items like bowls and vases. The tray is just beautiful. Everything else looks nice. I wouldn’t use the egg cup and I like your intended use for it.

Yes, I haven’t purchased a box since the DELISH month with the sundae cups, as all the boxes since then seem very mismatched and random, along with varying value that they weren’t worth it. This is putting something together with an idea behind it..and the colors go with one another. It’s great! I can’t wait to receive.
