Fortune Cookie Soap “Happy Holla Days” December 2019 Review

Here is the info sheet for this month’s box.

Merry & Bright Shimmer Lip Scrub, 0.75 oz - Retail Value $10.99

This is one of my most favorite products from FCS in a while. I have been needing a new lip scrub (and by that I mean one I actually enjoyed using rather than random samples), and this is a more wet scrub that did a great job of exfoliating my lips without being too rough and while also being a bit hydrating. A little goes a long way (I used way too much the first time), and it tastes like espresso!

Let It Shine Lip Plumping Oil - Retail Value $9.99

I never use lip plumpers because 9.5 times out of 10 they either burn too badly or cause me to get a pimple right along my lip line. For the sake of review I gave this a try anyway, and it wasn’t terrible! While it definitely had the plumping tingle thanks to the cinnamon and peppermint oils, it wasn’t so intense that I had to rub it off. So far so good in terms of it not causing any new pimples to form. This is one lip plumper I actually see myself using again.

& To All A Good Night Jelly Sleep Mask, 2 oz - Retail Value $16.99

I really do love this brand, but I don’t like their face products. Every mask I can remember trying from them has had alcohol near the top of the ingredients list, and I really just don’t think added fragrance is necessary in skincare. That holds true for this mask, which has alcohol as the second ingredient is scented with pineapple, passion fruit, and pink guava. Honestly, when I applied it all I could think about was hand sanitizer and how it smells like perfumed alcohol. This mask isn’t for me, but your mileage may vary.

Fa La La La La Scent Diffuser - Retail Value $12.99

I think I own five of these scent diffusers now due to how often they have appeared in recent boxes, and I think this is my favorite scent yet with notes of fresh pine needles and warm vanilla.

The Verdict: Fortune Cookie Soap really ended 2019 with a bang by sending us four full-size products! My favorites by far are the two lip items, and I thought this box had a fun take on holiday curation and design. Value-wise, everything in this box adds up to $50.96

To Wrap Up:

Can you get this box if you still sign up today? No. Sign up by January 13th to get the February box. From Fortune Cookie Soap:

The next month’s category will be revealed on the 10th of each month. If you don’t fancy it, simply log into your FCS account and skip it. Easy peasy lemon squeezy!

Value Breakdown: This box costs $16.95 + free shipping, which means you are paying approximately the following per item:

  • Lip Scrub: $3.65
  • Lip Oil: $3.32
  • Sleep Mask: $5.65
  • Scent Diffuser: $4.32

I am a staunch believer that pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza and when I’m not working as a family law attorney I enjoy hiking the Louisiana trails (alligator sightings are a favorite!) or relaxing with Duchess, my cat. I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

I’m starting to think that this has become the “Scent Diffuser of the Month” subscription. They’re nice, but it’s their body care and bathing products that I welcome the most.

I’m a diehard FCS fan, having bought their products for the past 3 years. Some products don’t always work for me but they are coveted gifts that I hand off when I don’t.

What really bothered me about the sub was the company caving to all the people bit… whining… about not wanting to pay the $36 previous price. When that was the box size, we received full-sized products & a much better curation of themes. Since dialing it back for the whiners, it has gotten to be more repetitive (I must say, I actually love the scent diffusers but I use them as air fresheners for my car). Still can’t quit it, though. I do wish they had different sub options for those of us who don’t mind paying more, but I can see how that would be taxing on a small company.

I agree they need to have two different tiers. The old more expensive one for more full sized products, and the small sized for what we have now. It has become repetitive, and also they have branched so far that some of their quality has charm has declined. I loved their monthly geeky themes. True some month’s are that way but they have got so large they had to lose packaging and customer interaction. I miss all that.

I started getting this box about a year ago, and I loved it. Soaps, scrubs, and body creams of all types, shampoos and conditioners that took away my frizz, all with memorable and fun scents. That’s what I want from a “Soap Company”. This was the first sub I really got hooked on. I loved the themes and the scents. I had 1 year old twins at the time, and using their soaps, creams and hair care had me feeling the fun of self-care (and bathing regularly if I’m honest). I’m so disappointed with all of these new-fangled products. And, I’m sadly I won’t be renewing my annual subscription.

I was on the waitlist for 4 months. This was my 1st month and it was a miss for me. This is a company I absolutely want soap from, but not makeup and skincare. They billed me for Dec and Jan once I got off the waitlist, so I’m in for Jan but have already cancelled.

Oh no. Please don’t turn into another beauty box.

I have to agree about the face products. They’re all quite harsh, tbh.

Just decided to cancel this sub sadly! I wanted to love it, but no matter how much I tried it simply wasn’t working for my tastes. I never found myself reaching for the products besides the scent diffusers.
The face mask really drove this decision home for me. I would have loved more soaps especially. As it stands this sub is better suited to someone else

I have my box up for swap except for the lip product. I decided to give the lip treatment a try and it is the best at not causing burning or a pimple.

How does one use a scent diffuser?

This was my first FCS box, and I canceled after receiving it. I felt the same way about the sleeping mask which was supposed to be the “big ticket” item in the box. Maybe I will use it on my legs, but I think for the price point, I can try higher end products.
