The Cubscription Box "Magical Winter" Winter 2019 Review

Our box is bright and colorful on the outside, but it looks like the inside will be perfect for us to add our own colors to! Since I was in middle school when Build-A-Bear came out, I never got to experience making one of my own furry friends, but I know they seemed to provide a pretty special and unique experience to younger generations. My daughter doesn't know what Build-A-Bear is either, but I think she will be pretty happy with the contents, regardless!

They did include a $5 off $25 coupon for us to use online or at a Build-A-Bear workshop which I thought was a nice bonus! Since I most likely won't use it, I am not going to count it towards the value, but I think it's a great start to this box!

We received this booklet which highlights all of the items in our box with cute little rhymes about each of them. The back features a rhyme about how we need to name our bear, which seems pretty typical of the Build-A-Bear brand and provides a great way to personalize the experience just a bit!

Build-A-Bear Teddy Bear

First, we have our adorable furry friend for this quarter, which is a classic brown teddy bear. It seems to be nicely made with some great details and soft fur. There is a nice glittery pink heart on her chest and a B-A-B patch on her paw. It looks like a more basic version of this bear would retail for about $16.50 (based on this bear I found), but our bear is probably worth a little bit more with that pink heart and its exclusive design.

Mini Unicorn Hoodie

They sent a cute cropped unicorn hoodie for our bear to wear. It seems to be nicely made with cutouts for the ears and even for the tail. The hood features some bright pink fuzz and a silver unicorn horn. It fits our bear perfectly and looks pretty cute!

The best part of this subscription is the fact that they encourage "twinning" with your animal and send your child matching apparel. I think this should appeal to a lot of kids and it definitely made it more exciting for my daughter! Hers is a cropped hoodie just like the bear's with the pink fuzz and silver horn, although no ear or tail cutouts for her.

It fits her well, and while I'm not a huge fan of the cropped style, it works and is still a useful and fun clothing piece for a 5-year-old and probably those a little older, too! Obviously, we would also pair this with some plainer clothing, since the stripes, florals and unicorn print are pretty tough on the eyes.

Unicorn Gloves

These pink gloves are perfect for my daughter! They fit her well, are her favorite color, and feature a cute unicorn patch on the top. I don't think I could ask for more! You can see her wearing them with her hoodie above!

Unicorn Pouch

This pouch is probably the only item in the box whose quality I wasn't totally impressed with although I think the pink glittery design is great and really fun. The pom-pom pull has already come off though since the zipper was a little tough to pull and the kids tried to use the pom to help close it. I would expect this item to be a bit more durable since it is meant for a kid.

Unicorn Marquee Light

The last item in the box is this cute unicorn marquee light. It takes two AA batteries and has holes so that you can hang it up if you'd like. It also stands on its own which is nice. My daughter will probably use this as a light in her dollhouse since it is portable and gives off a good amount of light. This would also make a great portable night light for vacation! The quality of this one is great and since she received a similar light in another box from this company, I am confident it will hold up just as well!

Overall, I think this box was a winner for my daughter! She was definitely excited!

Verdict: This was Cubscription's debut box and I was pretty impressed with the contents of the box and the range and quality (pouch excepted) of the items and my daughter was really happy as well. It is so cute that they included a bear and matching hoodies for the bear and her! That is a very unique and fun idea that makes this box stand out for sure. I also think the value is there for this $36.99 ($29.99 + $7.00 shipping) box considering that averages out to about $6.17 for each of the six items. That being said, I have to say that I was a little disappointed this box is only geared towards girls because I know my son would be thrilled with a stuffed animal that matches him! However, he is only 3 and this may be an idea he outgrows a little faster than my daughter does, so I guess I can understand. It may be a bit more limiting if they tried to make this box unisex, however, I am hopeful that if it goes well they might consider expanding to include a boy's or gender-neutral box in the future! For a debut box, we were pretty happy with what we received and are looking forward to next season's box!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, as of publication the Winter box is still available!

Value Breakdown: This box costs $29.99 + $7 shipping, which means that each of the 6 items in the box has an average cost of about $6.17.

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

My Granddaughter absolutely LOVED this box!!! It is VERY cute!!! The only 2 flaws I found were…. slow in receiveing tracking information, shipping speed, and I wish the Birthday bear could be purchased without having to pay for an annual subscription.
