December 2019 Crystal Wellness Club Review

As I mentioned in my first review of this sub, I am not someone who really spends a ton of money on candles, and $25-30 is on the higher end for me. That review was a little bit of a game-changer for me, as I signed up for this subscription independently because I loved the candle so much. So now I get two a month! I really, really like these.

The first thing I pulled out was a beautifully designed and informative card. It details the stone choice this month, what its properties are, and an intention guide.

The crystal arrives in a reusable drawstring bag. I have never seen such a well-made and protective drawstring pouch come in a box. It has a soft exterior and is lined with a thicker, plush, faux-fur liner.

The crystal this month is double terminated labradorite. I just love this stone! It is such a mystery because it looks different from every angle and depending on the light and how it catches inside, you see illuminations of olive, grey, brown, and electric blue. This subscription promises larger crystal sizes of at least 3 inches. This one was about 3.50 inches long.

Grounded Wellness Candle with Labradorite, 8 oz - Retail Value $24.95

I had been looking forward to this candle since it has cedarwood, one of my favorite essential oils. I find the scent incredibly calming, earthy, and warm. It is blended inside this candle with rosemary, bergamot, and fir, which only add to the earthiness. It is truly a great scent for the cold months, especially with the addition of just the right amount of cinnamon to give it a fiery warmth without feeling like a "holiday" candle in the least.

These candles are a blend of beeswax and coconut oil which always burns pretty evenly for me unless I have them on a slightly uneven surface. I live in a 100-year-old house, so I am amazed they burn evenly at all since nothing in my house is level. The fragrance level is also excellent, filling the living room without being overpowering.

Inside are little labradorite chips that look like different shades of grey. You can see the little freckles and inclusions inside when the flame light bounces off of their surfaces. Beautiful.

And each Crystal Wellness Club delivery also comes with a little box of matches:

Verdict: This subscription continues to be one that I look forward to every single month. The candle quality is great and the marriage of two of my favorite things (candles and crystals!) is a dream each time it lands on our doorstep. The crystal itself was lovely this month, especially for someone who loves collecting points. If you are like me, crystal and candle obsessed, this is the ultimate treat-yourself new year investment.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the January Citrine box.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

Emma

Megan, since you get two of these subs, I’d really be interested to see the two crystals you get just to see the variety.

Hey Emma! I can try to include that next month! I usually end up giving them away to other friends who are crystal addicts too!

I like crystals and I like candles, but because they’re attractive (crystals) and cozy (candles). Not because I think that crystals have healing properties, which they don’t. The name of this sub is ridiculous. Just another way to insinuate pseudoscientific twaddle into the public space.

Yay, science! I definitely agree that there are no special benefits from crystals other than being pretty, but it does seem that the reviewers of these particular type of boxes think there are. And there are a lot of the boxes! (I look at them out of curiosity, for anyone who was planning to tell me I can just skip them 😉)

For most people who feel crystals have certain properties, it’s entirely a spiritual thing, not an actual replacement for medicine etc. We’re not silly, we know the difference! For example, I am pagan, and specific stones have associations that are considered helpful and/or symbolically significant in aiding with rituals and practices such as meditation. Very few of us believe that this crosses over into the physical realm – we know it’s metaphysical, and while there is a lot of variation in belief in how much is simply the subconscious vs actual effects on energy, we know that whatever the effects might be, they are not physical and are not proven by (or have anything to do with) science. Now, granted, there are definitely people who fall outside of this norm, and I understand and share your frustration with companies claiming that quartz points or whatever will clear your skin and grow your lashes, because that has not been scientifically proven to be possible and it makes the rest of us, for whom crystals have exclusively spiritual and symbolic use (and, okay, we love the aesthetic as well!) look like fools. I just thought that your comment might have come from a place of not understanding that there is more to this kind of thing than pseudoscience – that there are solely spiritual beliefs as well – and that you would appreciate a bit of an explanation. 🙂

This was beautifully said. <3

Laurence- I think this is such a beautiful reply! I agree with your thoughts completely. I also would like to add something I often say: Just because I (or scientists) don’t yet understand how something works does not mean it does not work. Prior to science being able to explain gravity or the round shape of the Earth, does that mean they didn’t exist? Of course not! We did not have the means to understand or measure these things. I also don’t believe a lot of the false claims that companies who make money selling crystals make- some of it is just downright fraudulent. But I totally agree with the spiritual and symbolic use that is so supportive for many people around the world of various traditions.

I’ve been getting this for maybe 7 months now and I really love collecting the crystals and the candles smell amazing! One question I can’t seem to find an answer to though: Once you are done with the candle, are you supposed to do anything with the mini crystals in it or just toss them?

Sarah

That’s what I was going to ask. I was wondering if they were reusable or if they had to be tossed. How did you clean them of wax at the end?

Shay

I’ve been getting it for a few months now and I LOVE this sub. The candles are great and the crystals a really good size.

Laurence

If you have friends who are pagan, we love using crystal chips in rituals, spells, etc., so they would appreciate being gifted them! Or, if they are water-safe (NOT all crystals are, so be sure to check – most quartz is okay, for example, but not malachite), you can clean them thoroughly and use them in things like glass air plant pots. I also know someone who saves crystal chips, keeps them in clear glass jars, and uses them to hold her makeup brushes!
