January 2020 BeautyFIX Review

cover of info book with beautiful model open info booklet with all products and info back cover of info booklet

This box comes with a booklet detailing each of the items included. We have 7 (!!!) different items this month, so strap in!

REN Clean Skincare Perfect Canvas Clean Jelly Oil Cleanser, 15 ml -  Estimated Value $4.80 (Buy 100 ml for $32.00)

I really enjoy heavy gel-like cleansers, and this one has the added feature of turning into a luxurious milky texture as you rub it onto your face. It feels kind of like a balm when you apply it, and it is full to bursting with skin-loving oils. It smells fantastic too! Since this is oil-based, I like to apply it to a dry face and massage it in. I then let it sit for a few minutes before washing off with warm water. The feeling is a super moisturizing and deep clean.

HUM Nutrition Glow Sweet Glow, 60 count - FULL SIZE! Retail Value $25.00

I adore using hyaluronic acid on my face, but I had never thought about taking it as a supplement. That is the power player in these adorable heart-shaped gummies. They taste pretty good, though there is a vitamin-y aftertaste, nothing major. I am excited to try these for a whole month and see if my skin's moisture retention improves.

TULA Skincare Illuminating Face Serum, 15 ml - Estimated Value $20.40 (Buy a full-size 50 ml oz for $68.00)

This creamy serum was another product I was pretty excited to try out. I have larger pores down my T-zone and the rest of my skin is dull and dry, so this sounded like a product that could truly tackle a wide range of concerns. It feels very nice on, and has a light finish with no residue. The combination of vitamin E and citrus extracts both moisturize and clarify, and hopefully, after a longer testing time, I see smaller pores too!

Elemis Peptide4 Adaptive Day Cream, 0.5 fl oz - Estimated Value $19.38 (Buy a full-size 1.6 oz for $62.00)

I generally tend to like Elemis products, though I find them super expensive and I never can pull the trigger in terms of actually buying them. Something else always beats them out. I am also a big fan of a good day cream, and this is it! It is light enough to feel weightless on my skin (which is important under makeup) but amps up my skin's level of hydration while still controlling excess oil down the center of my face. This cream also smells delightfully floral from ylang-ylang and orange oils!

Dermalogica BioLumin-C Eye Serum, 0.2 oz - Estimated Value $17.80 (Buy a full-size 1 fl oz for $89.00)

I like eye creams, but I like eye serums even better. They are much more gentle in terms of application, and the lack of "drag" as I apply it to my skin is just better for that thinner and more sensitive area. Though it is a lightweight liquidy serum, it still gives me loads of moisture and leaves the skin under my eyes feeling stronger and plumper. I have to call out the lactic acid here, because it is one of my favorite anti-aging ingredients! In addition to promoting collagen turnover and therefore smoother skin, it also helps your skin absorb all of the other wonderful things you could ever think to apply more efficiently. Lactic acid is the definition of a team player!

slip silk scrunchie - Estimated Value $6.50 (Buy a pack of 6 for $39.00)

FYI: The color is chosen randomly! You might receive pink, black or leopard.

It might be because I grew up in the late '90s when scrunchies were just a massive thing (I legit got a scrunchie maker for Christmas one year) but whenever I see these much more sophisticated versions in any of my boxes I get really happy. This one has that scrunchie shape but on a much smaller scale. It is also made of silk, so it is both beautiful and very gentle on your tresses. I am very happy with the pretty blush shade I received, and these are totally going on my wishlist because I want one or more in every color.

Yon-ka Hydra No. 1 Masque, 15 ml - Estimated Value $18.60 (Buy a full-size 50 ml for $62.00)

Finally, our last item is a really nice hydration masque. I love masques that I don't have to wash off because I have such dry skin (and I am prone to bouts of laziness). This feels very much like a sleep mask because it is a heavier cream that absorbs well but also sits on top of the skin. I applied this after a night serum then woke up the next morning to really hydrated skin with significantly less redness. It also is worth noting that this formula has salicylic acid, which is great for exfoliation and acne too!

Verdict: With a $112.48 value this month, BeautyFIX was not playing around! This is a great example of this subscription at its best: full of awesome skincare, generous sample sizes, and unexpected surprises. I am loving literally everything this month! The vitamins were such a great addition, and full size? Yes, please! The silk scrunchie also quickly won me over because in addition to being hair-friendly, it is really cute. All of the skincare was stellar, and this selection was ideal for my dry winter face. I am really happy with this box and value.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, as of publication, this box is still available!

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I think that there is a small mistake in the Dermalogica part of the review. The link takes you to the wrong product. The correct product is Dermalogica BioLumin-C Eye Serum (0.5 fl. oz.) which sells for $70 as a one-time purchase (cheaper if you subscribe). Since we received .2 oz of product, the price is 40% of $70, which is $28.

What a great box this month!

This box looks much better than previous months. I used to subscribe to them but canceled because I was seeing a lot of repeats. But after seeing this subscription this month, if they keep this up I will definitely be back. I feel like it’s the best skincare one out there just because of the price point and value

I gave into this month’s sub for this! Along with some older boxes/R+CO set because I had dermstore amex offer. LOL.

I love this box! Tons of skincare and perfect sizes for trying things out! I am bummed Elemis has taken the SPF out of its day creams. SPF is a must during the day and layering a sunscreen over a serum and a cream gets way too goopy on my face and makes my makeup pill. I have been looking for a good moisturizer with SPF other than the dermalogica I use that will work with my makeup and primer but each one goops up and I have to wash my face and start over. Anyone have any luck with a good spf moisturizer that works under your makeup?

Murad moisturizer with spf30

Alice

I second the Murad.

Linda

Try the brand Fre. It is SPF and moisturizer in one.

Laroche-Posay has an SPF 60 face cream that works really well for my dry but acne prone skin! Wears well under makeup, too.

Cindy

I second the Laroche-Posay; it’s the best sunscreen I’ve tried. As a pasty white middle-aged woman fighting wrinkles & skin cancer, I feel like I’ve tried them all. For foundation, the It Cosmetics CC cream with 50 spf is fantastic.

I’m kicking myself because I haven’t been paying attention to this subscription, and I had no idea how awesome it is! After having read this review, I went back through the past few months, and I just loved every single box. I’m a hair’ s breadth away from pulling the trigger and signing up!

Agreed! Just ordered!!

Could someone tell me if the Tula product has the same scent as the Tula facial wash that we received prior to this box? I really didn’t care for that fragrance at all, and I don’t want to open and waste this serum if it smells the same or similar. I would much rather have someone else enjoy it. Thanks so much in advance for any assistance.

To me it has the same fragrance but not as strong as the face wash. I can’t stand the smell of the face wash as well. The serums scent disappears pretty quickly thankfully where it does not bother me so I don’t mind using

I really disliked the scent of the Tula face wash, too! Fortunately, this doesn’t really have a scent at all, and definitely not that perfume-y smell.

Jan Marini Antioxidant daily face protection SPF 33 is a great one! I have a hard time finding ones I like and this one is awesome plus it smells amazing and an awesome brand

Aleksandra

Great review, Megan!! I agree with everything you said. I love this box so much that’s why I’m getting another one.

I love the larger sizes of products in this box! It’s nice to try something more than once. One of the best boxes in a while for me!

I ordered a second January box because it is so good. I also ordered extra of the scrunchies. They are very soft and don’t pull on my hair.

I’ve been holding out, but your review pushed it over the edge for me. 🙂

Just FYI – I just tried and it will only allow me to add it at the higher one time price. (Which makes sense, I guess)
