Sweet Sparkle November 2019 Review

Each month Sweet Sparkle includes an info card with an intro to the theme, products sampled, and their retail values. This month’s theme is “Smokin' Hot” featuring 5 makeup products.

Steve Laurant Lip Tint in "Nude Pop" – Retail Value $22

Steve Laurant is a pricier brand we see a lot in Sweet Sparkle. Nude Pop gives off a creamy hint of pale peach, leaving a little more color payoff than what I anticipated. The overall texture feels luxurious and very comfortable on the lips, but I was disappointed that this lippie pot smells a little like plastic; it isn't an offensive smell, but I am spoiled with all of the sweet, and dare I say tasty, lip options out there.

Kokie "Smolder" 9 Pan Palette - Retail Value $10

I love seeing Kokie in subscription boxes! They have an array of great, affordable products, and I appreciate their sleek packaging. This compact palette has all the necessary shades to create a lot of smokey eye looks, and it would make a terrific travel companion. The pigmentation was pretty good, especially the shimmer shades, and I didn't notice any chalkiness with the mattes. All in all, a very handy palette to have!

Mirabella Cheeky Blush in "Lively" - Retail Value $30 (currently on sale for $10)

Right off the bat, I didn't love the appearance of this tiny product. The dimpling on the surface reminds me that maybe it is of older stock? Am I too needy for requiring a smooth surface on a new product? Even though I was discouraged initially, I ended up loving this blush! It is so pigmented, and the texture is so slick, yet creamy! One swipe gave me a healthy, "lively" glow.

J. Cat Beauty The Big Eye Pencil in "Black Ink" - Retail Value $3.99 (currently on sale for $2)

Here is another instance of disappointing first impressions. Arrow over to the second photo to see the textured tip of this J. Cat pencil. It is nothing a quick sharpening can't fix, but it is unexpected to see on a brand new product. I love using eye pencils as a base color, and this one did a solid job. It helps your eyeshadow color stay true all day long and is easy to smudge out to create whatever shape you are going for.

Hikari Mink Lashes - Retail Value $17

I love the look of a subtle faux lash, but these lashes are full-on! Lashes are kind of a wash for me personally since I’ve never met an adhesive my sensitive skin can tolerate, plus I don't know if I could pull off such a bold lash. This set is paired with black bands, and it does not come with adhesive. They seem feathery enough to be comfortable to wear and would seamlessly tie in with the Kokie Smolder Palette eye look down below.

Kokie Lip Brush - Retail Value $6

This itty-bitty brush is precious! It applied the Steve Laurant Lip Tint above beautifully, and the lid kept the brush from touching all of my other products. I hate carrying beauty tools with me daily, but I can't count how many times I wished I had a lip brush while on the go to create that precise look you can only get with a brush... this is now a makeup bag essential!

Here is the look I came up with using all of the products from this month’s box; I like the simple smokey look I was able to create, even though I'm not sure I really like how Nude Pop looks on my lips. Is it too '90s/am I giving off a concealer lip vibe?

Verdict: Sweet Sparkle sent out some gems this month, although I wasn't pleased with the appearances of some of the products. I love the teeny-tiny lip brush and Mirabella blush, especially! This month’s retail value came to $67; that is over double the cost, which is a pretty good value.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. Your first box will be the current month’s box. So if you sign up in the month of December, you will get the December box, etc.

I’m a self-proclaimed “cool mom” who loves a little, who am I kidding, a lot of razzle-dazzle. I have been box-obsessed for over 10 years, and I am always on the hunt for new beauty, fun flair and trendy clothing boxes. A fun night for me includes an exfoliating foot mask and a bag of Dot's Pretzels while binging Rupaul’s Drag Race.

Steve Laurent is a private-label brand, so their “retail value” is essentially meaningless to me (not saying they aren’t good products!). SL just slaps their logo on a pre-made product & up sells it. (SL is essentially the same as DLS is the same as Bang Beauty is the same as Luna by Luna.)

Kokie, on the other hand, is a brand that I think of kind of alongside NYX, in that they have some quality products for very reasonable prices.

Dirty Little Secrets, Luna, Bang Beauty and Steve Laurant are all owned by the same woman , private label.

Someone on Reddit posted a huge thing about it recently.
