Slutbox Review - October 2019

Slutbox
2.2 overall rating
33 Ratings | 3 Reviews

SlutBox by Amber Rose is a lifestyle and beauty subscription geared towards sex-positive people (often containing lube, condoms, pasties, and other sex-forward items). It's $29.99 a month and tends to be a little controversial because of its name as well as some of the items included. While they've ditched the loud pink "SlutBox" emblazoned packaging, they still send a curious, random collection of makeup, apparel, and accessories in the now plain brown box.

NSFW – this post may not be safe to read at work due to the name.

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

SlutBox by Amber Rose October 2019 Review

This is on the late side since we didn't even receive the October box until November 18th, but here I am, getting this review out into the world! October has a "Ghosted" theme which would have been appropriate in October, but this came in time for Thanksgiving. Ah well. Let me walk you through it!

SlutBox Ghost Reusable Bag

SlutBox has sent a reusable bag like this in the past and I'm actually not mad about it. I tend to lose the ones I have, so this keeps me in grocery bags or I can pass them on to friends with goodies inside without always needing it back. This time, the bag is lime green and has white ghosts printed all over it which is quite cute. It folds up into a small square pouch so it's easy to toss in your bag or keep in the glove box of your car so that you have no excuse to keep using plastic bags. It's really roomy too so it holds a lot!

Millenial Beauté Bud Naked CBD Booty Sugar Scrub - Retail Value $20.00

I scrub my tush a few times a week to keep it supple and soft, so getting a new scrub with CBD is a joy. There is almost no smell to this whatsoever which could be a plus or minus depending on your preference. If I strain my nose, I get a hint of what is perhaps the watermelon extract that they use. I like that they only use "clean" ingredients here and they're all very easy to understand. I found the grit to be perfect- not too harsh and not too gentle- to buff away any roughness my skin has. The formula also stays together pretty well and isn't too dry that you end up wasting all of it. My skin feels hydrated after using too because of the rosehip oil, argan oil, and mango butter. I didn't list a size because the jar and website both say "50 mg CBD" but I can't be sure if that's the amount of CBD used in the product or if that's the actual weight.

Medusa's Makeup Witch Lash in El Gato Negro, 12 ml - Retail Value $12.00

I was excited to see a familiar brand in the box that is known to be vegan and cruelty-free and Medusa's Make-Up even has its own subscription box (read those reviews here). When I opened this mascara, the brush looked pretty standard but I waited until it was on my lashes to really judge. Sadly, this mascara did not give me the drama that I personally am looking for in a mascara with just one coat. It is very lightweight and doesn't cake at all which is great- but the difference after applying was very subtle. This might be a plus for anyone who isn't looking for intense long thick lashes and just a little bit of a boost in pigment. It does say it's thickening but I'm not sure if that means in one go or if it has an ingredient that over time will help promote thicker lashes.

Mane Club Wild Thang 5-in-1 Deep Conditioner, 1.8 oz. - Retail Value $3.99

I was unfortunately not able to try this conditioning treatment out because I'm working on a hers haircare review (look our for that one in the future) and didn't want to derail my hair care regimen. I have to say that it soothes me to find this product at Ulta though which makes it more reputable in my eyes than some past item from Slutbox. This conditioner is meant to tame frizz, strengthen, add shine, and repair damaged hair which all sounds good to me!

CleanTryOn Original - Estimated Value $0.52 (Buy a box of 25 for $12.99)

This is a bit ridiculous to count as an item or even send at all. I get that it's useful, but it seems like the equivalent of sending those little nylon socks they have at shoe stores to try on shoes. The point of this hair net-looking shower cap is actually to put over your face while trying on (or putting on) clothes so that you don't get your makeup all over it. I personally don't wear heavy enough makeup for this to be an issue, but I do always see foundation smeared all over clothes at stores. I would just think- at least send a 5 or 10 pack. Just one? A little strange to count it as an item and not just a free sample tossed in.

Laritzy Cosmetics Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Honor - Retail Value $20.00

Ah, Laritzy - no stranger to subscription boxes. I do like this deep chocolatey red-brown color and I'm also quite impressed that it doesn't feel dry on my lips. After wearing for a while, my lips still felt hydrated and soft. The pigment is no joke and it stays on super well without transferring at all once dry. For me, I think it's too dark for my liking once it's on but would look gorgeous on someone with a darker complexion or someone who craves a more dramatic look!

SiiZU Ivy Long Arc Earrings in Gold - Retail Value $35.00

The ol' mystery item! Yes- it's the pair of earrings I received in November of 2018 but in gold this time. If you haven't been a subscriber since the beginning, these are probably new to you and a nice pair of earrings. I like their simple design and if you like a little sparkle, the single rhinestone is perfect. They're really light so they don't weigh down your lobes at all. They're cute- I've just already received them. 🙂

Verdict: I actually didn't mind this month's SlutBox in terms of the items they included and value. Is it slutty? Not in the least. But a pair of earrings, two full-size makeup items, a scrub, a hair conditioning treatment, and a reusable bag is a good-looking box for $29.99. Personally, the items weren't quite right for me though. I'll definitely use the bag and the scrub, but the earrings aren't my style, the lip color isn't my taste, and the mascara didn't give the boost I was hoping for. I think this box has lost its slutty way and if it were just rebranded as an Amber Rose beauty box - that makes more sense. Without the value of the bag (which I can't confirm), this box has a retail of $91.51.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, but sign up to get the December box.

From SlutBox:

SlutBox ships once per month, mid-late month. If you subscribed on or before the 14th of the month, you will receive the current month's box with our regular shipment. If you subscribed after the 14th, your first box will be the next month's box, unless otherwise stated.*

SlutBox is subject to availability and all boxes are limited edition.

*NOTE: If you subscribed after our cutoff on the 14th, you may have a chance to be included in a "second" shipment of the current month's box. (Quantities are limited and opportunity for a second shipment is not guaranteed for all members. Cratejoy subscribers are not included in these second shipments). Members who are included in our "second" shipment will be renewed sometime before the 7th of the following month, in advance of that month's shipment.

If you're confused about when to expect your first box, submit a request or email us at [email protected].

Value Breakdown: At $29.99 for the cost of this box you're paying $4.28 for each of the 7 items (or $5.00 per item if we don't include the makeup mask because let's be honest, that shouldn't count as an item).

10 January: I finally received the November box. There was one item on the info card (eye stencil set) and the rest was labeled as a “Mystery Items”. Spoiler Alert 🚨: It’s just random stuff from (recent) past boxes… CS said November had a production issue, but what that have to do with December’s box we haven’t seen? I emailed and cancelled this scam box and threatened to report them to the BBB, I then received a refund as well. This used to be a cool box with a cool platform and introduced me to a lot of good info, platforms and sites. This box doesn’t even deserve to be reviewed on this site, not even for kicks and giggles. I noticed Amber Rose seems to have started a skincare line and I have a feeling her company no longer gives 2 craps about this box anymore, in which case they should just end it instead of keep taking people’s money. She’ll never see a dime from me for anything ever again.

It is Now January 10th (quarter of the way into January 2020) Regarding the NOVEMBER 2019 box & DECEMBER 2019 box. it is now January 10th, still no November 2019 box still no December 2019 box. will just keep sending updates on this forum.

Update on the SB Subscription Box. It is now january 4th still have not received October or November box yet ??? nor have received any tracking email. ~have written them numerous times. Each time They say it is delayed & will be out quickly. Not sure what is going on….. ???? I never figured a box could be this late…. & how does it affect the future of a subscription box for the box to be this late?????

Amber W.

I ordered back on Black Friday and have yet to receive ANYTHING. I emailed CS two weeks ago and all they said was that November’s box was “popular” and they “sold out” and December’s will be “just as exciting”. Didn’t help me at all. I’m about to email again and ask for a full refund.

It is December 27th & have still not received SB November monthly box, nor have received the SB December monthly box. ~only a few days to go before the box will actually be 2 months behind. Not sure what is up??

sometimes not all the items are inside… sometimes what is inside is downright sad. Just thought I would try it out…. but it is possibly an “oh well… goodbye”. problem is not sure when to cancel since the box is 2 months late…if I cancel now may never get my last 2 boxes. as it may have cancellation in the system…??

@LP Same here. I’ve been emailing CS all this month AND last!. They said one of the Nov box items have a shipping issue. CS replies, but I still haven’t received my Nov or Dec boxes yet on Dec 30. I cancelled my sub. I just want what I’ve already paid for. Amber Rose has started a skincare line and I think she doesn’t give a rats about the box anymore. Lets be real, it’s been going downhill significantly the last few months. Good luck.

I would be interested in swapping for the scrub if anyone puts it up on the swap site.

I believe This box is on its way out. It ships so late in the month that they became a month behind. I cancelled after a scathing email I sent once I realized they just stopped shipping altogether it seems. They refunded me and apologized and cancelled my sub. Good riddance!

I have to say I’m very disappointed we didn’t get a picture of you modeling the face mask for us!

LOL- the thought crossed my mind…

I love that you say the review is NSFW “due to the name,” cause it’s definitely not due to the contents 😂

Katy

The only thing related to slut boxing is that the ghosts on the bag look like sperm to me. 😂

Reply ButtonReply

Michelle

They don’t even do spoilers anymore because they have no idea what they’re sending. What happened to it being a sexual freedom box? Where are the pasties we have come to expect? And the single condom?
Whatever happened to the Cosmo box? Is that still a box?

Cosmo box ended awhile ago

Tat

Sad sperm.
Nowhere to go…

I hate that they keep coming up with even more one time use products for makeup users to add to the landfill. The makeup industry is bad enough as it is with it’s barely recyclable packaging and now put this over you face as you put on clothes mask?! 🙄

I got the cbd bootie scrub in the box by fashionista sad to hear it has no smell but where I’m scrubbing I dont back that far to notice.

Bonnie

That’s where I have the scrub from! I knew I got it in a box but couldn’t figure out which one. I was a little amused when Marne said she scrubs her booty to keep it soft and supple. I actually use the scrub on my whole body.

Dear MSA:
Pro tip.
Stop paying for this box.
Then you won’t have to review it.

No-o-o! Please – I love the SB spoiler and review posts! I hope they send the laggardly boxes soon, because Marne’s reviews go in my personal entertainment Hall of Fame.

Nooo! I find the reviews of this box incredibly entertaining. Please keep reviewing them, lol.

In total agreement…

I fail to see anything sexul or intimate/romantic in a box called “SlutBox.” I read these reviews sometimes and wonder how this company is making it. Reminds me of the reviews of the overpriced Candy Club sub… hehe.

Jill

But…the scrub is for your booty! And the conditioner is called Wild Thang! (Yes, I’m being sarcastic!) This box just seems really random.
