Norlii is a bi-monthly home subscription box filled with Scandinavian home decor and accessories. I always marvel at the great curation of the best from minimal brands like Normann Copenhagen and others. There's always a great balance of form and function in this $69.95 (+ shipping) subscription.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Norlii Scandinavian Home & Lifestyle Box December 2019 Review

December's Norlii box has a Winter Solstice "circle" theme and contains several items to decorate your home for the holidays in gorgeous minimal style.

Oy Oy Living Brass Bookend - Listed Value $40.00 (found here for $39)

This bookend is a real looker, isn't she? Made of brass-plated metal, this minimally designed piece is as much art as it is functional. End to end, it's eight inches long, with the diameter of the circle running half that at four inches. Simply use this to keep books upright against one side of a bookshelf or create a small collection like I did in the last photo with some favorites and a small object on the other side. This looks so elegant on my handmade bookshelf and it's sturdy enough to last a long time!

Oy Oy Living Striped Round Storage Box - Listed Value $23.00 (found here for $25)

This round storage box is apparently the "small" size, but I find it rather spacious being eight inches high and having a diameter of seven inches. This can easily be used to liven up my living room to hide cat toys when not in use, or other items I might want to be tucked away when entertaining. Alternately, I can use this as a lovely gift box for someone who would love to reuse it. The muted red and pink stripes line the outside of the box and continue on the lid which has durable stitching and a leather loop pull at the top to open. Super festive!

Konfektfabrikken Lakridskonfekt Chokolademesterens Grand Cru (Black Licorice Chocolate Candies) - Listed Value $13.00

As the info sheet recognizes, black licorice doesn't seem wildly popular in the States and I am one of those people who agrees. These candies are made with rich black licorice and chocolate and cut into bite-sized squares for enjoying. I'm not a huge fan but I thought I'd try one anyhow. It didn't go so well as it still is not my favorite taste, but Andy, who photographed these, said they were delicious and offered to take them off my hands. These look to be a very nice and well-respected brand, so if you have a licorice lover in your life- these would be a great gift.

House Doctor Brass Finished Ornaments - Listed Value $12.00

I think these are my favorite item of the box! I simply love the minimal design these metal ornaments serve up and I think they'd be breathtaking on a tree. I go back and forth about getting a Christmas tree each year, but I've been feeling extra jolly lately, and with these to hang on it, I think I shall get one. Each 2.75-inch ornament has a unique circular design that seems to capture the feel of the Scandinavian style. The lightweight metal has a brass finish and won't weigh down even the smallest tree.

Gold Metal Feather Ornament - Listed Value $7.00

Finally, there is one more ornament for the tree, or to decorate a special package. This delicate 3.75-inch gold peacock feather dangles from a leather loop that Norlii wishes will bring hope for warmer days. Since it doesn't feel especially winter/holiday-specific, I think this item can be used in a myriad of ways like as a small wall decoration.

Verdict: I love the simplicity of this month's Norlii box. It gives me a real feel of Nordic design and I enjoy the circular theme along with all of the brass coloring. I'll probably end up using the cylindrical box to gift something special at Christmas, and I'm excited to buy a small tree this year just to hang my new ornaments! While I didn't love the candy, Andy sure enjoyed it and I'll be resting some of my favorite books against my new bookend on my office. The five items included this month have a retail value of $96.00 which is about $20 more than the $76.95 cost.

This one looked interesting to me. I checked out the website. Items ship from the Scandinavia countries. With the MSA code it brought the first box total to $59.46

Thank you Marne for the review.

Is brass trending this winter as a home decor finish? I usually think of it as a more industrial look.

None of the decor items really interest me (and I have several pairs of bookends that I love already…) but those licorices look fantastic.

One thing I enjoyed on my honeymoon in New Zealand years ago was the ease of getting tasty treats with black licorice. They even had some sort of ‘cake’ served in many shops that was a slice of a larger sweet loaf thing backed with brightly colored licorice candies inside.

I’d use a he ornaments and the feather as ceiling fan pulls, or light pulls.

Oh! What a great idea!

These home decor boxes are always so overpriced. I think because they are supposed to carry a certain cachet. I like the items, they’re beautiful and the bookends are gorgeous, but 75 bucks? Are they kidding?

The price of this one is due to the fact that the items are all from Scandinavian brands and ship from Scandinavia so they are typically harder to find here in the US. Hope that makes sense!

Love the idea of this box and I agree with Dcmiess that the items are cool and unique but I do feel it’s missing something. Its expensive that’s why.

Those ornaments are stunning!

Love the items but not the price! Maybe if it was about half the price. Otherwise I’ll do my own shopping.

Don’t have the money for it, but I’m going to keep my eye on this box. Really cool stuff
