Margot Elena Winter 2019 Review

blush and black cover of info booklet

This box comes with a card detailing all of the items included. As usual, the floral illustrations are so pretty, and I love the minimal blush and black palette this quarter.

We have so many pretty things to see.

In Love Shea Butter Handcreme by Lollia, 4 oz - Retail Value $25.00

I am always excited when I get a big tube of hand creme from this subscription. It always is eagerly used, especially in the cold months! This scent is anything but wintery though: a collection of fresh white petals, roses, and a little hint of fruit. It makes me long for spring! It is on the sweeter side but it is featherlight, which makes it feel like one of those scents you kind of wear like a second skin. The formula feels luxe and very hydrating.

Eucalyptus & Mint Travel Candle by The Cottage Greenhouse, 4 oz - Listed Value $12.00

I am also thrilled to see a candle this month! I feel like all I do in the evenings from November to March is compulsively light candles and hide under blankets, so I go through a lot of candles. This little travel candle has a truly delightful fragrance that is mostly mint and eucalyptus. Needless to say, it really refreshes a room and makes everything just feel brighter and cleaner. I also love the blue and white design because it adds just a little bit of color to my marble coffee table.

Dead Sexy Eau de Parfum by TokyoMilk, 1 fl oz - Retail Value $36.00

YES!! Wow, this has been a great box already. Inside this rose-covered tube was a full-size bottle of one of my favorite TokyoMilk perfumes: Dead Sexy. This is a blend of vanilla, wood, orchid, and ebony, and it has a really unique scent. It reminds me of the cool gothy girl I never was: edgy but sweet, smelling like flower petals and sugar,  and always wearing a black leather jacket. I am delighted with this.

Linden Perfumed Shower Gel by Library of Flowers, 16 fl oz - Retail Value $24.00

Shower gel is generally a product you can always count on in this subscription, and I have used every single bottle and tube I have ever received! This is a massive bottle with a handy pump. The gel itself is on the heavier side and it clings to your skin until you wash it off. The Linden scent is another favorite: think clovers, honey, and meadow flowers!

Charcoal & Lemongrass Face Mask by The Cottage Greenhouse, 2 oz - Retail Value $32.00

As far as clay masks go, this is on the most moisturizing side. It does have loads of purifying kaolin clay, but the dryness that often accompanies such a deep clay clean is balanced out by the addition of sunflower seed oil, aloe, and beeswax. I usually end up regifting clay masks because they just aren't practical for my dry skin, but I liked this one enough to keep it around to use as a spot treatment. It has a very earthy scent with just a hint of lemongrass.

Share The Love Boxed Notes by Margot Elena - Listed Value $16.00

The Margot Elena team always designs exclusive items just for their boxes and this month it was a truly gorgeous set of 8 mini notecards with two designs. One is a colorful assortment of flowers on a navy background and the other is a white and navy 'thank you' card. All come with little white envelopes. Though I love the cards, I was even more excited for the beautiful floral tin because it is utterly perfect for stashing my watercolor pans. I usually magnetize the bottoms and store them in a few different Altoid tins, but this is a much larger and significantly more glamorous alternative. It also has a Van Gogh quote on the front, making it extra perfect for paint!

Pomegranate Facial Serum by The Cottage Greenhouse, 2 fl oz - Retail Value $32.00

I don't think I have ever tried any serums from this brand before, and the (wonderfully short and totally pronounceable) ingredient list is full of skin-loving oils. It worked beautifully as a night serum and really hydrated my sad winter skin. I also used this on dry elbows and knees! If you have dry skin like I do, I also recommend adding a few drops of this to your face before using the clay mask that also arrived in this box. It changed the mask from a drying clay type to more of a hydrating super mask.

Tour Eiffel Hand Soap by TokyoMilk, 8 oz - Retail Value $12.00

The perfume inside this soap is Waltz No. 14, which is a super feminine mix of musk, petals, honey, roses, and wisteria. It is a warmer fragrance, but also still very light. I like the Margot Elena solid soap formula because it gives a deep clean but doesn't feel overly drying to hands. There is a soft fragrance that clings to your hands and powder room, so this is perfect for a little guest bathroom.

Bath Salt Satchet by Lollia, 7.5 oz - Retail Value $15.00

Wow, I actually cannot imagine a more relaxing blend of scents for bath salts. This is a super-soft mix of lavender, honey, and vanilla. There is a little floral twist in there somewhere too that really works well in a hot steamy bath. The beautiful cotton packaging is something I will be hanging onto long after the salts are gone because it is perfect for a jewelry travel pouch.

Lip Elixir by TokyoMilk Dark, 0.70 oz - Retail Value $7.00

Finally, our last item is a tin of lip balm. I think I have seriously owned every one of these different fragrances, though my absolute favorite, Smoked Salt, was discontinued. (If anyone from Margo Elena is reading this and wants to bring that one back, I would literally cry!) This is the La Vie En Rose scent and it smells lovely, like roses, fruit, and cream. I always keep one of these in my purse (currently Absinthe is in there) because they are wonderfully hydrating and a lot edgier and fun than a normal balm.

Verdict: Gosh I love the Margo Elena Subscription Box. It has yet to disappoint me! Everything is always so over-the-top beautiful and smells amazing. If you love pretty packaging, great formulas, and stunning scents, this is certainly a box you should experience. The other bonus for a box like this is that everything is so brilliantly giftable. You could literally order one of these just to have gifts on hand or keep what you want and gift the rest. I usually end up splitting this box with my mom because she is head over heels for all of the Margot Elena products and she always feels to indulged and spoiled when I share them with her. I know she will love this assortment as much as I did, though there is no chance I am giving up that perfume! This box also has a retail value of $211.00, making it a great value.

 To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, the Winter box has sold out. The Spring 2020 box would be your first if you sign up today.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

Liz, they have the first spring spoiler out now.

This box was the first I’ve gotten from them that was kind of underwhelming. No hero item, as Megan said. I hope they are not parring down the contents as it was even a smaller box. This is one of those boxes I can’t quit, but I may consider if Spring is similar to this.

Miss Pippa

I just love this box!

My annual ran out, and I never got an email asking me to move to monthly, or to see what I am missing. Strange. But can’t say I missed this box. I ended up re-gifting most of it.

I LOVE this box so much! 10 items for $50 is a BARGAIN! I’m a sucker for pretty smells and could care less if something is “summery” or what not. Bring it all on at any time! My mask was different than yours and why isn’t anyone mentioning that beautiful charm on the salt sachet?!?
Looking forward to the next now! So happy I signed up for this one, it’s my fourth box and wish I had been a subscriber since the first.

I’m using the salt satchet charm as a Christmas tree ornament. It’s too pretty not to re-purpose.

Not at all happy with this box. Most of the items are repeats. The candle, perfume, serum have been in past boxes and the sachet i got was wish which I already got in box too! Was hoping for the relax. And no hero item. Blah!

Got my two boxes today. Loved it as usual. One, tiny complaint is that I always love the high end quality packaging, but this season’s clear bottle of bath and shower gel is in a plastic container that arrived misshapen in both boxes….. I wish they would use glass, like they have in the past, and is more sustainable than plastic.

Received my M.E. box today, and I am wowed. The Dead Sexy perfume is stunning. Megan’s description is on point completely. Made me want to paint my lips a pinky red, sling my fav black leather jacket over my shoulder, and put my hair in messy ponytail with a sweet ribbon. Cool, but still sweet.

Everything smells and looks great, and didn’t feel like I was missing a thing! The cards are really cute and edgy, but the stars are all these great products. Wow!

Wish I had another to give as gifts. I just can’t bear to part with anything.

Happy holidays!

The top part of the Dead Sexy tube still looks cute if you need an extra cup for pens or in your medicine cabinet.

I got mine this morning:

– The only variation I had on the reviewed box was that I got a repeat of the Orange and Honey mask from a couple boxes ago. It’s a great mask, but I have so many masks I cycle through that I won’t use another, so that’ll get swapped or gifted to my roommate.
– I was bummed about getting the Eucalyptus & Mint candle at first, but I realized it wasn’t a repeat for me, I got that in another in a swap or another box. It’s a great scent, I used the last of mine on a work trip to India last month. I often throw a travel candle in my luggage for work and pleasure trips.
– My body wash leaked a little bit. Not enough to damage anything else or waste significant product, but it did schmutz the label a little. I love Linden, so that isn’t a problem for me, as I won’t gift it.

Lori

Mine did, too. Same with nothing damaged, just a bit of smudginess, haha.

Apparently, I forgot to renew when my yearlong sub ran out. Surprisingly, I’m not sad about it. I looked at my stash and still have a lot of Margot Elena items that are unused.

Shipping on this box is taking forever! I’ve never noticed such a slowdown around the holidays as I do this year. Anybody else? And tracking info never seems to update, which is concerning.

Something else making my concerned about receiving my ME box is that the weight is listed on FEDEX as under 1 pound. Doesn’t seem right…

If anyone has a box they don’t want please pm me. I would love this box for me

Just received my box today. Made the mistake of opening it on my lap. Smells fantastic and I guess it should seeing as the shower gel is soaking everything in the box. Everything is destroyed.

Smells good though.

Emilia

I have received my box yesterday. I had bath salts in Wish (repeat), lip balm in Novocaine. Also, the face serum is a repeat. Overall, I am happy with this box, as always, but I do wish there was a cloth item – scarf, towel, apron, Turkish towel were my favourites. I use the water bottle all the time. The kissing bell and the peacock cup are put to use, too. I turned kimono into 2 scarves and wear them often.

Can’t wait for spring!

Love this box. Great review!

And by the way, if Margot Elena *is* reading this….

Please, please do a box that is all retired discontinued fragrances. Like a shower gel in Poe’s Tobacco, a parfum crema In Smoked Salt, etc. Every item being a different retired scent. Please! 🥰☺️❤️

Jenn

That would be FANTASTIC!!!

My box variations were:

Bath Salt Sachet In WISH
TokyoMilk Dark Lip Elixir In NOVACAINE

Love this box!!

Can anyone tell me the dimensions of the mini notes? Thanks!

Autumn

I really love this box. I am in agreement with Emilia that I miss having a cloth item. I really loved the apron in last seasons box. I liked that those items made the box special. Margot Elena always makes the boxes really thoughtful that way. I know a lot of people complained but I always thought it set you apart.

Marie sorry to hear about your box. I hope you took a picture and email them I’m sure they have a replacements even though it’s sold out.

Reply ButtonReply

Marie

I love her boxes, but the full size bath gel broke open in my winter box. It was not even packaged in any kind of bubble wrap.
Most of the bottle contents leaked and ruined every thing in the box.
I’m so sad, since this box is sold out. It’s an expensive box to lose so much of the contents. 🙁

Reply ButtonReply

Jennifer

Did it really “ruin” everything? You couldn’t wipe off the plastic, glass and tins and use the perfectly undamaged contents inside????

Reply ButtonReply

Kristin

I hope they refunded you the cost of the box.

Reply ButtonReply

Jennifer

This is the first one of her boxes I missed, as it sold out shortly after they cancelled my annual and I’d forgot to resub.

I wasn’t too sad when the first spoiler came out as I already own a smaller bottle of Dead Sexy and it isn’t one of my favorite scents (though it is growing on me.) But I would have loved to get another bottle of the Pomegranate serum! I love that one, and keep it in the rotation of my face oils as it is super hydrating and gentle. (I mostly do once every few days, with the other oil I regularly use being the Sunday Riley Tumeric one.)

And everything looks great, so I’m sad I missed this one.

But I just found a random Lollia perfume (imagine, I think?) from a previous box that apparently I’d never opened (it was rolled up in it’s packaging and in a pile of stuff to be recycled!) so I am happily enjoying that right now.

Still waiting on mine. I have two subs, by accident, but I don’t mind because this is my favorite sub. For anyone who hasn’t tried it yet, that Linden fragrance is beyond divine!

Much more excited to receive this one. I was kind of disappointed with the last one, but this one sounds great!!

Also bring back Poe’s Tobacco.

I haven’t heard of that one! I bet I would love it!!

Megan thanks for the great review you did her proud. I received my box today and was so over the moon. This is my third box, and I always look forward to receiving it. Sometimes I don’t think people understand who Margot Elena is she is a artist, designer and perfumer.

She is amazing; isn’t she? I still haven’t received my box, yet, either. I’ve subscribed since the second box, and knew after seeing that first box that I never wanted to miss another box. It’s truly an experience unboxing her beautiful items. Can’t wait to get my box!

Thank you Patricia! I feel like this is always an easy review because everything is so pretty and wonderful! <3
