Culture Fly (the team behind Pusheen Box, The Nick Box, Supernatural Box, and DC Comics World’s Finest: The Collection) recently launched a quarterly box for kids – L.O.L. Surprise! Box.

This box is being reviewed thanks to an MSA reader request!

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

L.O.L. Surprise! "Winter Disco" Fall 2019 Review

Alright, so this box is probably confusing to a lot of people because it is being reviewed in November and it's called "Winter Disco," but this is indeed the Fall box! In October, subscribers should have received an email that the box was going to be delayed because the quality of one of the items was not up to their standards and would ship mid-November instead of October. They even sent a follow-up email shortly before shipping to let subscribers know that they were still on track, which I thought was pretty great as far as transparency for customers! They also mentioned that winter boxes are still scheduled to arrive just in time for the holidays. So now that we've cleared that up, let's see what we received!

The fun thing about this subscription is that everything comes wrapped up in these little bags so it's all a mystery until you open it up. This is certainly exciting!

She was so excited to open up her first bag!

L.O.L. Earmuffs

How cute are these earmuffs? My daughter loved them since she has actually never owned a pair! The fuzzy blue muffs are so soft and that ice blue is so wintry and perfectly complemented by the silver glitter headband. They are definitely a little big, so they should fit the wide range of kids who receive this box!

She was excited to try them on right away!

She had so much fun picking through to decide which package to open each time!

L.O.L. Picture Frame

This picture frame is cute and a little cheesy for my tastes, but my daughter seemed to like it, especially since it's pink! The little L.O.L. girl is pretty cute and this will be fun for her to display in her room, but the best part of this frame is that it has a secret compartment!

When you remove that cardboard piece at the back there is a little compartment there. You can also access it by sliding the picture off the front and storing little trinkets inside! This is certainly a fun idea for a kid!

Next, she opened up the two smaller packets for some cute surprises!

L.O.L. Pin

Our first small item is this cute little pin! I have to say that I love how inclusive this brand feels with the broad range of characters they depict and the variety of features from their eye color to their vibrant hair colors!

L.O.L. Socks

The second item was a pair of socks and of course, they were a hit! Not only are they pink, but my daughter loves her socks, so she especially enjoyed these. They have a fun pattern on the bottom and read "snow kitty" and the top features a cute L.O.L. girl. I'm not really sure what snow kitty means because I'm not really familiar with the toys, but since it is on the bottom of the sock, it's not really a noticeable feature when she's wearing them anyway!

Here they are on. They are made from 100% polyester and kind of a strange semi-shiny material. They are also pretty thin and lightweight but still seem well-made and she found them comfortable.

She's always excited about clothing! This one is in their previous sizing so it is a 6/8.

L.O.L. Surprise! Hoodie, size 6/8

This hoodie is not my thing at all (I just don't do sayings), but I think it is pretty on-brand and I do really love that foil-printed butterfly on the back as did Liv! This is a nice, lightweight hoodie and I think it fits a little short intentionally, although I definitely think it's good that they chose to update their sizing since this probably wouldn't fit a size 8 as well as it should. My daughter is in 6X/7 and it seemed like a perfect size for her, albeit a tad baggy. While I'm not one for phrases, I think it's cute enough and she was pleased with it. While I originally thought black was an odd choice, I do actually like it and the way it makes the butterfly pop! She was happy with it, and that's really what matters most anyway!

Our last pink package! You can tell she was excited by the contents!

L.O.L. Pouch

This pouch is pretty cute with a girl with earmuffs on the outer pouch. My daughter loved the hot pink and the glitter in her hair is a fun touch. It even has a little coin pouch that attaches to a strap inside so you don't lose it. While I'm not sure how I feel about the phrasing, I'm glad it's on the inner bag so it's not as noticeable. She was just happy for somewhere to store her coins!

L.O.L. Surprise Lils Makeover Edition - Retail Value $6.88

This is actually our first L.O.L. Surprise experience - we have never even bought one of the little toys before (although now I'm wondering how long we will be able to avoid it!) so this was a fun treat for both of us. We thought it was so silly and also exciting the way there were so many layers! The first layer revealed a little sheet of two stickers hinting that we had a doll and two more surprises inside. Then we had two more layers to go through before we got to this giant pink roller which we tested out in her hair.

Inside of our roller, there was an L.O.L. info sheet, a checklist showing all of the options, a little holographic mirror, and another package! The inside of the roller actually looked like a cute little room and the other half can be used as a bath for our doll.

The package inside turned out to be three separate packages! In the first was a cute pair of heart glasses, the second was our adorable little Penguin in the City pet, and the last was a hat (?) for her to wear. We haven't tried it yet, but apparently this little penguin changes color when we put her in water! How fun! We were so impressed with how much came inside of this little package and she loves the little toys to play with and accessorize her penguin!

Here she is modeling all of the apparel. Can you tell she loves it?

Verdict: This was our first experience with the L.O.L. Surprise! Box and Liv and I both thought it was a lot of fun! I love that everything comes wrapped up and remains a surprise since that is part of the charm with the toys themselves. While we have never had our own L.O.L. toy before, my daughter was familiar with the brand and very excited to be receiving this! She loved all of the goodies inside and I was satisfied with the quality. This is a pretty popular brand that you definitely pay a premium for and we received a lot of fun exclusive items that I felt were worth the $45.00 ($38.00 + $7.00 shipping) cost of this box. They also get bonus points for transparency and following up regarding the late shipment! Overall, this was a great first L.O.L. Surprise experience!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, this box is currently sold out, but sign up now for next season's box as these do tend to sell out!

Value Breakdown: This box costs $38.00 + $7.00/shipping for a total cost of $45.00, which means that each of the 7 items costs approximately $6.43 each.

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

My daughters (ages 6 and 8) would love this box. With the 25% off coupon, I think I’m going to try it out.

OMG. I know lol surprise toys are popular, but we just got one for my 5 yo. We opened it and it was the cheapest ugliest toy for the price imaginable. The manufacturer is the one lol.

That was my thoughts exactly when I looked at this review. What a waste of $40.

My daughter collects these. We have about twenty five and have been collecting for a few years. My daughter is six and loves to unwrap the toys then dress them in different outfits. I won’t be getting this box though. I don’t like lol accessories. We’d rather have the doll. A little sis just isn’t going to suffice for $40.
