Kyut Box November 2019 Review

flyer calling out companies that test on animals

First and foremost, Kyut Box is a vegan and cruelty-free beauty box. And not in a trendy way, but in an authentic way where they are committed to helping animals. This month, they've included an insert that calls out major brands that test on animals and advertise an app in which you can scan a barcode to see if the product you're choosing tests on animals or not.

Kyut Box comes with an info card that has the theme (Pumpkin Spice) on one side, and a rundown of the included items on the other. This month they've sent four cruelty-free items!

OMFG Cosmetics Candy Corn Pressed Highlighter, 0.35 oz. - Retail Value $20.00

I never thought I'd love a brand called "OMFG Cosmetics" but here we are. Back in September Kyut Box sent me a mascara that I ended up loving and now- this candy corn highlighter. It can be used just one color at a time, but I choose to just dust my fan brush against the whole surface and mix it up. The results are a really nice holographic beam of highlight anywhere I brush it on- like my cheekbones, tip of my nose, cupids bow, and brow bones. It even smells faintly like candy corn without being over the top. The only downside is that there is some fallout here that will get subtle glitter on other parts of your face, but I don't find it bad enough to stop using.

Peony Matcha BB Powder w/ SPF 15 - Listed Value $22.00

I am super new to foundation powders and this is the second I've tried this week. I thought this talc-free powder would be green in color since it's matcha but it came in "medium" which is a light to mid-tone beige. It actually fits my skin tone pretty well and has an SPF of 15. Once I swirled it around my face though, my skin immediately felt sort of dry which is not pleasant. I liked the soft matte finish this gave me, but it left me needing to give my face a spritz of hydration soon after and I just didn't like the way it felt overall.

Zion Health Deep Cleansing Scalp & Hair Scrub in Green Apple, 4 oz. - Retail Value $19.99

Funny how I just reviewed an entire kit of detox hair products and now I get this scalp & hair scrub. Perhaps winter is the best time of year to detox your hair? This full-size tub is filled with a frankly delicious smelling green apple scrub that includes sea salt, sweet almond oil, argan oil, and aloe vera to name a few. The scrub is actually quite gentle and really made my scalp feel invigorated. It got all sorts of built-up gunk out of my hair that I use which was obvious once I blow-dried my hair to feel soft and clean. Not only is this vegan but it's also made without parabens and sulfates.

Love Byrd Gentle Foaming Face Wash, 2 oz. - Retail Value $9.00

Looks like Kyut Box accidentally listed the price of the larger 5-ounce bottle on the info card so the 2-ounce they sent retails for $9, not $18. That aside, I always appreciate a good foaming cleanser since my facialist several years ago told me to stick with those. This one is 100% free of fragrance and is good to use for all skin types. I found it to be gentle, just as it claims and got rid of dirt and makeup easily. I keep this one in my shower but since it's a smaller travel size, it can go along on trips with me. I didn't notice if they offer a refill bottle, but you can totally reuse this one too once it's empty if you have other foaming wash to add.

Verdict: I rather liked Kyut Box this month and am really getting to see the types of products they offer. Although they aren't organic, they do remind me of a smaller version of The Organic Bunny since it features smaller brands I'm not as familiar with. The matcha BB powder was the one product that I didn't love, but perhaps it'd work better on someone with oilier skin that can absorb it better without feeling dry. The four products included have a retail value of $70.99 which is great for the $30 cost.

I think they may have gone out of biz. I was charged for Nov, Dec boxes, but the Nov box shows it was never shipped in my account and there is nothing for Dec. No one is returning messages on Twitter or emails and I just saw on Insta other people asking what has happened… 🙁
