Glow by Local Eclectic Jewelry Review - Fall 2019

From start to finish this box had a great unboxing experience. This is how some extra goodies and information were packaged.

I am digging the dreamy color palette.

The info book contained more information about the designers of the jewelry we received.

We also received a ring-sizer with instructions on how to find our correct size- I think this is so smart for the first box from a jewelry subscription! According to this sizer, my finger is a 9.5, and I should size up to a 10 since this subscription does not offer half sizes.

We also received a postcard and pen.

Lover's Tempo Dolce Stud Earrings - Estimated Value $35 (based on the same style in a different colorway).

After the lovely unboxing experience, I was excited to dive into the actual jewelry. This pair of earrings features emerald and sage Swarovski crystals set in gold-plated .925 sterling silver. The backs of these posts attach securely without pinching my earlobes, and I think the gold and green tones of these earrings, while wearable all year, are especially perfect for the fall and winter seasons. I have been pairing these with the rainbow necklace from the Winter POPSUGAR Must Have box, and I love how the colors complement each other while still being very delicate.

Lust & Luster Hazy Daydream Necklace - Estimated Value $115 (based on the same style in a different colorway)

First off, The Good: This is gorgeous, and I love the blue topaz stone center surrounded by the marquise-cut CZ stones.

The Bad: I don’t think this was designed as well as it could have been. The necklace closure is a hook-and-eye clasp with a single loop for closing it, making it almost impossible to put on by myself (usually there is a link of loops, and I am able to randomly fasten the closure onto one of them). This is even more problematic when the chain is only 16 inches, which makes it a tight fit to get the necklace clasped. I am very familiar with jewelry not fitting well- there have been numerous times in my life where a necklace or a bracelet could not properly fasten around my neck or wrists. This necklace fits me almost like a choker would, so I don’t think this would work for anyone whose neck is even a little bit bigger than mine. Considering the price tag on this box, the choice of choosing a necklace that wouldn't fit everyone disappoints me.

Verdict: This box is on the pricier end, and I appreciated that Glow by Local Eclectic created such a lovely unboxing experience and chose beautiful pieces. The quality of the jewelry is definitely there- when wearing these pieces I feel like I am genuinely wearing artisan jewelry rather than fast fashion. All of the jewelry in this subscription is exclusive, so while I was able to find the same styles for sale in different colors, the exact colors and stones used in this subscription will not be for sale. That means that my value estimate of $150 should be taken with a grain of salt, because the value of the stones used may be off (for example, my necklace has a blue topaz center while the one available on the website has a yellow sapphire). If you are a fan of dainty, delicate jewelry I definitely recommend checking this out- but be mindful that you may have sizing issues if you have a history of some jewelry not fitting you properly.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the winter box.

Value Breakdown: This box cost $99, which means you are paying $49.50 per item. Going off the value estimates, each piece breaks down to:

  • Earrings: $23.10
  • Necklace: $75.90

I would love to see at least one more box reviewed, since it’s hard to get a full picture from just one box. I liked these two pieces of jewelry, but agree that it is questionable that they are worth $150.

Very pretty!

I am sorry to say I also feel this sub is very over priced. In looking on their site the pieces look very much like you can find for much less elsewhere. After 6 pages of looking I had not seen anything that has not been done.

I love jewelry like this, delicate and tasteful with color stones. However, the deal-breaker is a 16″ chain. I have a small neck; but, that would even be an uncomfortable fit for me. 16″ is a child size chain. The clasp is not my favorite, either. I can find better pieces handcrafted locally, or online individual pieces. Easy pass.

I agree here. I was excited at first when I saw chose yellow gold or rose gold. Then I read it was plated. As dainty as the items and the price they should of been done in 10kt. They would of blown up with business.

I really think these items are overpriced and cheap looking. I would never subscribe.

While I do agree that their items are a tad overpriced, I don’t think they are cheap looking… maybe it’s the photo? Idk. My daughter and I have matching birthstone rings from LE and they are really pretty!

I agree with the overpriced, but not the cheap looking. I have earrings in 14K gold that look exactly like these pictured.
