Now, on to the items!

Storybook Cosmetics Fairy Tale Book Club in Little Briar Rose – Retail Value $55.00 (currently on sale for $25.00)

I am not super crazy about this palette. First, it is MASSIVE. Like, huge. I could never lug this thing around because it wouldn't ever fit into a makeup bag. The colors are actually quite lovely, but I think I would rather de-pot my favorites into a travel palette than be forced to keep this whole thing, especially since I don't see myself ever using the blues. There are also a few shades with low pigmentation, mainly Briar Rose, Grimm, and Thorn. The mattes seem to be the problematic ones here. The shimmers, on the other hand, are quite lovely, smooth, and well pigmented, though they don't apply at all well with a brush, so use your fingers. I get the appeal of such a palette, especially as a book-lover, but the practicality and formulas are lacking, IMO.

Top to bottom: Briar Rose, Spindle, Talia, Castle, Prince, and Grimm

Top to bottom: Beauty, Woodland, Enchanted, Fairies, Thorn, and Kiss.

Saturday Skin Waterfall Glacier Water Cream, 1.69 oz – Retail Value $39.00

Can you believe I have never tried anything from this brand? A water cream is a great place to start! Compared to some others, this one was downright thick! I have dry skin, so this was a bonus for me, but if you are on the oilier side, this is certainly not too heavy for you to enjoy too! While it was quick-absorbing, I did notice the tiniest bit of stickiness for about 5 minutes after I applied, but I actually thought that slight tackiness was a perfect base for my foundation so I rolled with it. It gave my skin a nice finish and a wash of cooling hydration that lasted all day under all of my other products. While this isn't heavy enough for me to use as a night cream, I really loved it for daytime use. It is also synthetic fragrance-free (and didn't have a noticeable scent either) so this might be an awesome choice for anyone with sensitive skin too.

Ciaté London Confetti Highlighter, 10 g – Retail Value $32.00

I am still not over highlighters. I know a lot of people are, but don't we all have that one type of product that we hoard incessantly? Lipstick and highlighters for me! This rose gold compact is very pretty, and has a speckled pressed highlighter with shades ranging from pearl and rose gold, to champagne and bronze. Swirled together, they are a soft pinky champagne that I can imagine would flatter a wide range of skin tones. I found this much more of a shimmer than a glittery effect, which suits me just fine.

Glow, baby, glow.

(Sorry for the change in background! I forgot to swatch this and we had to double back and grab it another day!)

Fresh Soy Face Cleanser, 5 fl oz - Retail Value $38.00

This has been one of my favorite brands for a really long time and this cleanser is one of their cult-fave products. I have never really indulged because $38 for a cleanser has always given me major sticker shock. But in a box? Sure! It has a really unique scent that kind of reminds me of sake more than soy, though I don't think there is any sake in there. It lathers up beautifully, especially if you use it on dry skin before adding water, something I have been doing more and more lately if I don't have time to double cleanse. While it feels super gentle, it is a powerhouse for makeup and dirt removal. I am really happy with this cleanser and a little scared of what I will do when I eventually run out.

QMS Lip Line Corrector, 15 ml – Retail Value $200.00 (£155)

I know this is an expensive brand, and while I have received items from it before, I am never totally sure if the formulas live up to the pricetags. I find myself in a weird position to review this too, since I am blessed to not have any lip lines to correct (yet). I decided to use this around my lips and eyes and did notice a significant hydration boost, though nothing truly dramatic. It might be something I have to use more over time, so we shall see! What did you all think of this?

Innbeauty Power Up: Dual-Phase Setting Face Mist, 3.4 fl oz - Retail Value $32.00

This is another new brand for me, and as a side note, their website is super cute! This is the type of mist you shake before spraying, because it has two parts inside. The oily surface section is filled with moringa seed oil and ginger root oil for a healthy dose of moisture. The other part has witch hazel and aloe. Though this is listed as a setting mist, with wonderful ingredients like that you can use it on naked skin for added moisture throughout the day. It also smells really great too!

Kat Von D Dagger Tattoo Liner, 0.55 ml - Retail Value $20.00

I don't generally use eyeliner (which means I give away lots of eyeliner) but I had heard nice things about this one so I decided to try it out. I loved how dark the black was and the not-so-shiny finish, but I disliked the angled brush tip. It was really hard to get a nice line because I had to be super careful about the angle I was using. The bristles themselves actually felt like they were needling into my eyelid too if I got the angle wrong. When I do choose to use a liner, I think I will stick to the pointed brush or felt tips.

I liked that this wasn't too shiny when fully dried.

Too Faced Rich & Dazling Lip Gloss in 'Crazy Rich', 7 g - Retail Value $21.00

I love lip gloss, so I was pretty pumped this arrived in my box instead of a liquid matte product. This is a really pretty peachy gloss with a fuschia shimmer that gives it a duo-chrome look. It applies nicely and though you can kind of feel the shimmery particles when you rub your lips together, it isn't grainy or unpleasant. You can use this as a topper to any shade, but I loved it alone on my lips with a low-key "no makeup" look.

A pretty peachy pink with a fuschia shine.

Rituals The Ritual of Sakura Foaming Shower Gel, 6.7 fl oz - Retail Value $9.50

Finally, our last item is a giant bottle of foaming shower gel. It does indeed foam, and kind of changes into a shaving foam texture the more you rub it on your body. It feels great! It has a really strong and creamy cherry blossom scent that I thought was too sweet until it grew on me. It left my skin feeling clean and soft, which is really all I can ask for.

Verdict: The total retail value of this BoxyLuxe is $446.50, which is wild for a $49.99 box, including free shipping. I will admit that the two most expensive items were probably my least favorite, which is kind of a bummer, but in typical Boxy fashion, the rest of the items collectively had enough value to make me feel like this was still a great box. My favorite items would be the Saturday Skin cream, Fresh cleanser, highlighter, and lip gloss. With such a great selection, I am happy to cut my losses with the few items I was less enthused about and regift them to someone who might appreciate them more.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, but you can claim a spot for the March BoxyLuxe box by upgrading your BoxyCharm subscription in your account section.

Value Breakdown: At $49.99, here is what you are paying approximately per item

  • Storybook Cosmetics Palette $6.16
  • Saturday Skin Water Cream $4.37
  • Ciaté Highlighter $3.58
  • Fresh Face Cleanser $4.25
  • QMS Lip Line Corrector $22.39
  • Innbeauty Setting Mist $3.58
  • Kat Von D Liner $2.24
  • Too Faced Lip Gloss $2.35

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

Got variation #12 today; they had emailed me that they were giving me a $20 credit for the add-ins shop since it was sent so late.
Question: I signed up and put in the code to get the too faced peachy palate with it as a free item for signing up. It wasn’t in the box. Do they ship those separate or do I need to email them?

Sad day, got an email that my Boxyluxe is now scheduled to be delivered on the 22nd instead of the 19th. Keeps getting pushed back

Oh, and I haven’t heard a word on my Boxycharm Premium either…Nothing!

I received my box today and I also got variation 12! I did not get to customize and I really wanted the Saturday Skin, so I am thrilled! I would have been happy with either the lip line corrector or the roller, but have a slight preference for the QMS product, as I am already well stocked on jade rollers and other gadgets for the face. Super happy about the Rituals product and good with the rest too. Yay Boxy fairies – you did me right!

Ok so this boxyluxe for me was amazing! I got variation 19. It was a retail value of 486!!!! Now who can complain about that! I did select the Elemis rose oil and the QMS lip line corrector and the are expensive but I also got a Rituals shower gel 😁 and instead of highlighter I got Ciaté marbled light blush which I prefer. My skin is not perfect and Highlighter just accentuates the negative. I also received the too faced melted Matt metallic lipstick, the storybook palette the dagger tattoo liner and dry shampoo. Very very pleased with my box! Thanks Boxycharm!

Kate

I received variation #19 too, and I am absolutely thrilled with it! I cancelled Ipsy and Ipsy Plus this past fall and kept Boxycharm. It has been a great decision for me🙂.

Got my box today. Ended up with one of the better variations which had the hair oil and metallic lippie.
I got the QMS, did anyone else have a hard time getting product out? I was having an issue getting the pump to not go back into the box? Wondering if mine is defective or if it’s just a bad design.

Reply ButtonReply

IndyGrr

With the QMS, twist it all the way up (well it will feel like it is all the way up) and then twist it a tiny bit harder. It only moves a little more. You will feel it lock into place.

Reply ButtonReply

Steph H.

Mine is completely messed up. It doesn’t work at all and won’t twist all the way back down. It’s like the mechanism is separated from the top. I just wish you could twist the top off and get the product out. I’d be happy with that and could still use it.

Steph H.

My pump doesn’t work at all. It also doesn’t go all the way back down. I sent an email several days ago but haven’t received any reply.

My box arrived today and it is the exact same as Megan’s (its variation 12) and I’m super happy with everything. Although it’s obvious to me that getting both Boxyluxe and Boxy Premium is just too much product for me. Not to mention all my other subs PLUS Fashionsta convinced me to not only start a sub but also buy a one time only mystery box for $50!

Sarah

Hi.
I’m new to all this
Will I still get the regular Boxycharm this month as well?

Reply ButtonReply

Steph H.

No. Boxyluxe is an upgrade to the base box every three months. On the months you receive Boxyluxe you’ll receive some items that are also in the base box that non Boxyluxe subscribers will also receive. I hope that helps!

Reply ButtonReply

Sarah

Thank you Steph.

Stephanie L.

Hi! Anybody got a box that’s 3.3 LB and can provide a list of what they received? Or what they chose? Thanks!!!

I subscribed at the beginning of this month so I wasn’t able to customize any items. My fear is that people who subscribe this month or was not able to customize will end up with the cheap face rollers that nobody is going to use. I actually really wanted the lip corrector. Those 2 choices are so not equitable. Definitely concerned about what’s going to be in my box. Kinda having buyer’s remorse at the moment since Boxycharm has a trend of bait and switch (everything influencers get are the good stuff, and what we get are crappy fillers!)

Reply ButtonReply

Jacki

What I hoped was one of my add-on orders turned out to be my boxyluxe. I’m not excited about another black eyeliner, another matte lip, another setting spray, another highlighter, and another cleanser. I do love 💕 my choices, the adorable palette, and the dry oil spray. Four items I love makes this a good value. I was really hoping for the lip gloss. I’m struggling to find homes for all the items I don’t need. Shelters are looking for $$ more and more. The number of people I shop for has dropped dramatically since my children and their friends have finished school. I guess I need to hit the swaps harder this year 😂

Reply ButtonReply

Alice

Contact high school counselors. Sometimes they identify students in need. Girls would love to get some of these items. (Placing them in Ipsy bags — a plus!) Also, contact churches in low income neighborhoods. They, too, usually have lists of families with ladies that could some of these items that they normally could not afford. Hope this gives you a couple of outlet ideas for donations.

Reply ButtonReply

Beccah

I got variation 15. The same as above but I got the IGK instead of setting spray and blush instead of highlighter. I was excited to get too faced lip gloss but it is a horrible brown color! Not really that great of a box but better than ipsy

My box ( variation #11) came today via Fed Ex home delivery ( not Smart Post).

The identifying number of the apparently endless variations can be easily seen in the lower right corner of the product card. There is a red heart beside the number.

The ” whimsey” connected with my box was the extremely imprecise description of this box’s contents above, especially the use of the eye shadows smeared on arms and no primer or brush used like all of us should use with an eye shadow, then the shadows called less than stellar when they are quite beautiful and have good staying power when not used like finger paints.

The fact that the Ciate’ ” highlighter” is a bronzer! It looks like a bronzer in the review and it definitely is a bronzer in the compact I received ( and wish I hadn’t).
and the cheapness of the filler products some of us received. ( facial roller which can break small blood vessels near the surface of the skin in ANY age user) and the stupid old tired Daily Concepts hair towel . Both are laughable cheap fillers.

I’m sick of being the exact target age for products like a lip line serum and not receiving it. Happens with BC and with Ipsy.
The good boxes don’t get sent to the paying customers. That’s my non- whimsical conclusion.

Reply ButtonReply

Bonnie

I think the lip line serum was one of the choice items. I chose it.

Reply ButtonReply

Alice

Yep. I’m beyond done with BC. We are definitely not in their demographic target range. I cancelled everything and SO glad I did before December.

Reply ButtonReply

Lily

My first BoxyLuxe and it’s box variation #11 ( it is a number in the bottom corner with a heart beside it). Easy as pie to find!!

I feel like they shortchanged some of us with the facial roller that does nothing beneficial but can break small blood vessels close to the skin. That same tired Daily Concepts hair towel that I’d venture to say 90% of long term FFF and PSMH subscribers for a year or so own in multiples.

I’m over 60 years old and they couldn’t send me the lip line serum? I received CHEAP items that take up space instead.

I’m sorry but I am so disappointed with the fillers in this box vs what the reviewer received that I could cry. I felt sure I’d get the lip product because I DO need it.

There are some color problems in the review. The Ciate product may be CALLED a highlighter, but as the reviewer’s wrist shows, it’s a bronzer on her, and will be on most subscribers. I’m fair and the color is a true bronze on me, NOT peach.

Also, I think the Storybook palette is the nicest product in the box except the Fresh Soy Cleanser which I’ve used for years. The colors are vibrant and very easy to use with very good coverage. It felt like someone wanted to find SOMETHING imperfect and chose the beautifully pigmented palette at random.

Reply ButtonReply

Jackie

Prepare for disappointment with boxy. At least they are giving people choices now. That way you at least you know you’ll be getting 1-2 items that you want.

Reply ButtonReply

Ashley

Received variation 27 and I love it! Luckily I was in need of a black eyeliner, a setting spray, and I really like the Matte shade. I really enjoy my boxy sub bc I don’t buy that much makeup anymore!

ashley b

I was able to customize if I wanted the QMS lip line corrector or the facial roller.

I received variation number 27, and was pretty happy with everything in my box.

Lily mentioned that it’s her 1st Boxyluxe which means she was billed on early Dec.
Choice for Boxyluxe was on Nov, thus she was unable to choose.

Chelsea

I still haven’t received my tracking info for my first Luxe box and I’m getting so nervous. They took my money on the first. So I don’t see what the issue is, I’ve ever had any trouble when I just had the base box.

Reply ButtonReply

June

I never received a tracking number, either, but my boxyluxe showed up yesterday unannounced, so it could already be on its way!

Reply ButtonReply

Jane

Where do I look for my “variation number”? Thanks!

Reply ButtonReply

Luna

I believe it’s the number on the lower right of the card with a heart next to it. I haven’t been subbed to boxy in a while, but that’s where it was located when I subbed.

Reply ButtonReply

Jacki

My premium just shipped. I’ve received no word on my luxe or popup.

Reply ButtonReply

Ves

I received both my Premium and Lux box today. The Premium i had a tracking number on the Lux I have yet to receive any tracking info so I was really surprised to get two boxes when I was only expecting one.

Reply ButtonReply

Steph H.

I received my Luxe on Saturday but no word yet on my popup order. Thankfully I didn’t order anything for gifts.

Reply ButtonReply

Bess

I had an almost completely different variation of this box. I DID have the Briar Rise palette though. I don’t think the luxe boxes had a second option, but I KEEP getting blues. Ugh……so yet another gift item. I love eyeshadow palettes, but every time I wear blue on my eyes, it looks like someone punched me in the face. LOL.

Reply ButtonReply

Jacki

Smokey purples does the same thing to me. I look battered.

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

I don’t look great in them either Bess. Someday, maybe I will figure out how to apply them in a flattering way, but they seem to just pull out dark circles and veins on me..

Reply ButtonReply

h

Unsure how so many people have their boxes in hand already, when mine hasn’t even shipped, and I’ve subscribed to Luxe since it began. What is up with BC? It really does seem like they are catering to new subscribers and doing everything possible to get as many people as possible subscribed, even though they do not have the IT capability to handle a pop up sale or anything that goes live. Their site crashes and there isn’t any benefit to being loyal for years. If they keep it up, they might find themselves with fewer subscribers than more.

Reply ButtonReply

JennO

I received an email from BC today saying my shipment was on it’s way. I’m glad I looked at it closely because it was for my popup order, not my Premium or my Luxe. I’m not complaining about getting my popup order. I am simply wondering if it wouldn’t be easier to have kind of a one track mind at the moment. I mean, trying to do too many things at the same time, and of course there’s going to be a delay.

Reply ButtonReply

h

Same here. The PopUp orders are what is being shipped. The Premium shipped yesterday, but not Luxe. The PopUp has been in three shipments so far, and no telling how many it will be split into before it is actually fulfilled. I’m happy if they fulfill what is ordered, unlike FFF, which would send emails that items were out of stock and would not be shipped weeks after I ordered. That’s pretty much what led me to cancel FFF around a year ago. Sounds like that one has gone downhill quite a bit from what I read in comments, but that’s a story for another post.

Chi

How much did yours weigh?

Daisy

I really wish Boxy would open Premium and Luxe up as stand alone subscriptions. I am not interested in the base box but would love to sub for just premium, or just Luxe. (I know I can sub to the base box and switch to premium only once I get off the wait list, I’m just not interested in the base box. At all.)

Reply ButtonReply

Marion

Tbh, I’m a little surprised to see Kat Von D back in Boxy. I know a lot of people emailed & commented on social media that they were upset last time products from the brand were included.

Reply ButtonReply

Indygrr

I actually wanted a regular black eyeliner so wasn’t upset when I got the Kat Von D Cake. It is WAY too soft for me. BUT you know what is worse than getting the Kat eyeliner? Getting it in the Luxe and then getting the other Kat eyeliner in your Premium. So much for the “totally different” products they said would be in the boxes if we got both boxes. While not exactly the same, the Kat Von D black pencil eyeliner AND the Kat Von D black liquid eyeliner are definitely not totally different. Agree, feel like they may have gotten these for a deal and feel like they should have spread them around a little better than that.

Reply ButtonReply

Bonnie

They probably got the items for free or very cheap as the brand struggles to stay afloat. Maybe KVD hopes that getting her liners out in boxes will get people to repurchase them. They ARE good liners, just maybe not good enough to support a brand that’s not even apologetic for its offensiveness.

Reply ButtonReply

Debbie

How does everyone get their boxes so soon? Mine won’t arrive for another two weeks!

Reply ButtonReply

Yessy

I say the same thing and I’ve been with boxycharm for few years now. I’m always getting my box two weeks and everyone else gets there’s before the new month. I’m so confused. Lol.

Reply ButtonReply

Steph H.

I received my box today and received variation 22♡. I love everything that I received. Wasn’t initially happy with the dry oil spray but it actually isn’t oily after a few minutes. I’ll probably just use it as a hair product. My choices were also the Saturday Skin and the QMS. My box value was $476. Not bad at all for $49.99 + tax!

Reply ButtonReply

Amarie

I hope and pray that this is my exact same box. It’s being delivered today. Fingers and toes crossed 🤞🏽. I really want that body wash!! Everything actually!

Reply ButtonReply

AH

I got this exact box, and it already showed up yesterday. It’s my first BoxyLuxe, and I will say it is far better than the first Ipsy Ultimate (like a 1000x better than that first Ultimate), but I’m a little underwhelmed I guess. I think it might be because the big ticket items aren’t home runs. The Saturday Skin would be my favorite product (and I was a little upset when I saw that would be in the base box – because Saturday Skin was why I joined luxe). Definitely not a bad box, and now I’m curious what my Premium box will be.

Reply ButtonReply

Wanda Cardec

I got the same box & I got a wrong card! I’m happy overall but idk, not blown away. For $50… at least I got some gifts out of it so my mom will be happy!

Reply ButtonReply

Tracy

You just recently signed up and you are already off the premium wait list? I have been on the premium wait list for months, so I just don’t understand how they choose to handle the wait list then. It only makes sense to me if they take people off the list based upon who got on the list first…

Reply ButtonReply

Bonnie

Months? This is only the second premium box. I got on the list about 40 minutes after it opened and I got off the first month. They didn’t let me know until after they charged my card shortly after midnight on November 1st. If your payment doesn’t go through, I think you get bumped.

IndyGrr

I’ve figured out that my happiness with a box depends almost completely on the lip shade. I have gotten ONLY really dark red or scary clown red lipstick from sub boxes…mostly BC. I finally got another color in this box…YAY! Not something I would have picked but I LOVE it because it isn’t scary/dark/black/red joker face make-up.
It makes much more sense for Boxy to use the beauty profile for people to pick a few things they know they will not use or have way too many. I’m full up on red lipstick for the rest of my life after only a few months of subs. On the profile, they let you pick one color but the truth is that I would love to get all the colors except red. I pick nude because it is the choice most unlike red. Same with some of the other items…I would try all the colors in most things but they make you pick one so that just makes it harder (or impossible) for them to use the profile.

Reply ButtonReply

Jane

@IndyGrr: I agree! I have an opposite problem though so maybe we can swap my nudes for your reds? I am a “warm” redhead (used to camouflage myself as a brunette when I was young but now grey & red seem to be fighting for total domination & it doesn’t matter what shade of brown I try to be as it turns copper in 3 weeks, so I had to choose between “ loosing hair from chemical damage ” & “going rouge”. Lol!) So, I can’t wear any nude lipstick (I seriously look dead!), can’t wear any red that has blue undertones either (it turns bright pink) so I am on quest for that perfect “brick red” (dark-ish red with orange/gold) after Lancôme discontinued their classic Creme bullet “Cherrywood Luxe” that I used for over 20 years. Yes, I am old & hard set in my way, I don’t want nude matte lipstick on my wrinkled lips! I’ve tried every red shade at local Dillards/Macy/Sephora to no avail. All reds now seem to have blue undertones => turn bright fuchsia on my lips :(, which totally clashes with dark copper hair & brown eyes. So I subscribe to a LOT of boxes & put everywhere my preference RED & what do I get? NUDES & mauves!!! I don’t even open them, just sigh & put them in the drawer to swap or give away.
If anyone wants nudes but get reds, let’s swap! Marry Christmas y’all!

Reply ButtonReply

Marie

They don’t actually use your profile.

Reply ButtonReply

IndyGrr

But my point is the way they set up the quiz makes it difficult to apply on their end because it is too restrictive. Making the quiz easier to apply on their end and using it when reasonable could make a big difference. Understanding that BC can’t make everyone happy all the time but it would help. It could help reduce waste, retain customers and sell more products.

Carol Ann

but they do, because why would they give someone fair a face palette for someone with a deep skintone? lol
