Let's see what I received!

StoryBook Cosmetics 'Robin Hood' Fairy Tale Palette - Retail Value $35.00 (currently on sale for $15.00)

I liked this smaller palette so much more than the larger Briar Rose palette I received in my December BoxyLuxe review. Yes, it still feels really bulky and thick, and I would probably never haul it around, but the smaller size of this version is much more manageable. I also thought the quality and pigmentation of these 6 shadows were leaps and bounds better than the other palette, though there is still room for improvement. Theme wise, they totally nailed it. This mix of gold, yellow, brown, and green is exactly what I would have expected from a Robin Hood themed collection. The standout shade is that first gold color. In terms of texture and payout, it is pretty wild. Quiver, Nottingham, Forest, and Merry Men look a little sheer until you start to blend them, and I found they applied much better with fingertips than a brush, though blending them with the brush of your choice once they are on your skin works nicely. The Robin Hood shade is a beautiful forest shimmer that builds nicely. While the palette overall doesn't really impress me compared to some others, book lovers might really enjoy this and the idea is very unique.

Top to bottom: Maid Marian, Quiver, Nottingham, Forest, Merry Men, and Robin Hood

Elemis Pro-Collagen Rose Facial Oil, 15 ml - Retail Value $72.00

I love facial oils and I love rose anything, so I knew this would be a winner for me. I wasn't wrong! This oil feels SO SO luxe! It is on the heavier side, which suits my dry skin just fine, but if it seels like a lot to you, you can certainly mix it with one of your lighter moisturizers, though I would experiment first to avoid pilling. I was actually surprised to see this referred to as lightweight on the Nordstrom's site since I thought it was certainly on the heavier side. It does absorb really easily and leave a velvet finish, but I personally would reserve this one for nighttime use. As a bonus, it also works wonderfully as a rose perfumed hair oil. Just rub a few drops between your hands then finger comb into your ends. Delightful!

Ciaté Glow-To Illuminating Blush, 3.5 g - Retail Value $26.00

This gorgeous blush is a ballet-pink with a soft shimmer. It is kind of like a blush-highlighter hybrid but very subdued. The natural soft pink is appropriate for year-round application, though I think this will be a spring favorite for me when the flowers begin to bloom again. The compact is also totally gorgeous and features a nicely sized mirror inside.

Aesthetica Brush Cleanser and Conditioner, 2.5 fl oz - Retail Value $17.00

This was a surprise to find inside this month's box, but with my ever-growing brush collection, I really needed a cleanser! This heavy gel was super effective and had a medicinal scent from the antibacterial tea tree oil inside. This wasn't the most exciting item, but I always appreciate a needed and practical item!

Brow Bar by Rema Brow Makeover Kit in 'Light' - Retail Value $30.00

Finally, our last item is a metallic gold brow kit. It contains two brow powders, a concealer, a mini clear setting gel, and a dual-ended brush. I received the light version which makes sense, though I usually do fill my browns in with a darker shade. Maybe too dark? I found the lighter shade to be too light for me personally, but the darker one was very pretty. It was easy to use the angled brush end to add in pigment, then the clear brow gel to comb through and set. The concealer was nice for under my brow bone and as an eyeshadow base over my entire lid.

Here are swatches of the two brow shades as well as the concealer.

Verdict: My BoxyCharm box has an overall value of $180.00, which is wonderful for a $25 box. I loved the facial oil, blush, brow kit, and brush cleanser, and the eyeshadow palette was ALMOST there. I do appreciate the creativity behind it and thought it was a super unique addition. Boxy always has loads of value and has yet to disappoint me, so if you are a makeup addict with a love of skincare and full-size items, give this one a shot. It is a no brainer for $25.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes! These boxes do sell out though, so if you love it, hurry.

Value Breakdown: At $25.00 for this box, here is approximately what you are paying per product:

  • Storybook Cosmetics Palette $4.86
  • Elemis Rose Oil $10.00
  • Ciaté Blush $3.61
  • Aesthetica Brush Cleanser $2.36
  • Brow Bar Kit $4.17

Alternatively, the average cost of each of the 5 items is $5.00.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

My motherhad a subscription, it has been canceled since November. Now we are receiving a box each month in my fathers name. Yesterday was the third box he has received. It needs to stop my mother has been gone for several months, and my 68 year old dad does not wear makeup and it needs to stop. I have tried through customer service and it’s just a run around. Thank you

Hmm, I added another subscription to get the Too Faced ” Just Peachy Mattes” eyeshadow palette. I REALLY LIKE IT!!

My other items are not exactly new December items overall.

I got the Seraphine lip scrub that’s made in PRC. I do not put PRC made items on my lips.

Also, got another Elemis Pro- Collagen Rose Facial Oil, so the palette and the oil are way over the value of the box price.

Got Dominique Cosmetic’s ” Celestial Thunder” palette. I think this is the 3rd or 4th one.

Ciate Eye Lustre Eye ” Shadow” in a white color called Ice. I think I had 2 of these already plus another color.

A large- ish Cover FX facial highlighter/ contour/ bronzer palette called ” Perfector Face Palette”. I recall this being an option I didn’t get one month and I was glad. Well, here it is, but it is the light shade I need if they are going to send another shine and hide palette.

Overall, this was a very good deal.
I REALLY would have loved some lip gloss or lipstick, but all the eye stuff is how they roll. 🙂

I am so glad to see I’m not the only one that received this variation! I got all of these items, none of which were in any of the spoiler videos/posts. It’s my first box so for a minute I was thinking I’d received a reject, leftover box. The products are beautiful, though, and I can’t wait to use them!

After multiple delays all last week, I finally got my box today.

I received:
Robin Hood palette- I was hoping for the Red Riding Hood palette, but I think I can pull off at least most of the shades in this palette.

Saturday Skin Water Cream- I picked this, as I am wary of putting oils on my face

Ciate London Blush- It’s a nice blush

Seraphine Botanicals Lip Scrub- I will take all of the lip scrub I’m sent, as they are a must before applying any lip product, especially lipstick.

Brow Bar Palette in Medium- I have dark brownish/black hair, and I have what some people would call a “caramel” complexion, although to be honest, my skin tone is just a little lighter than that (like more medium-tan). I thought that because of my hair color (I marked black as my hair color on Boxycharm’s quiz) I would have gotten the dark palette. But once again, Boxycharm’s claim that they are now customizing our boxes has proven to be a bunch of baloney.

I am happy with my box this month, but I cancelled because of the shipping fiasco with OnTrac this month (I live in California). But I am wondering if I’ll be able to pull off wearing the colors of the medium brow palette considering both my hair color and my skin tone or if I would be better off getting the dark palette. We shall see.

I got this exact variation. I love the brow item and the oil is great! (It does smell like rose if anyone is sensitive to that). The item that’s disappointing is the eyeshadow palette- the tops of the pallete has weird brown on it like the picture which makes it look used even if it’s not. The shadows are cheap are hard to get on fingers or brush to apply. Love everything else so I’ll donate the pallete to a shelter. Good month boxy!

So far, I’ve only seen 3 posts on Insta with the GWP Tarte palette. They are all the same variation:
– Storybook Little Red Riding Hood
– Saturday Skin
– Ciate Blush
– Aesthetica brush cleanser
– IBY liquid lip
– Tarte palette

MaryJennifer

I got the Tarte palette and I mostly match the list you provided except I got the Elemis Oil instead of the Saturday Skin and Robin Hood instead of Red Riding Hood.

Reply ButtonReply

Marion

I got the same variant! I’m excited because I chose the Ace red palette for next month without thinking about it, & I don’t need 2 red palettes. I would have liked to receive the Saturday Skin, but the Elemis oil will make a great Christmas gift for my aunt.

My Robin Hood palette arrived damaged, does anyone know if Boxycharm will replace it? I’m going to write them, but just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience and what the outcome was

Reply ButtonReply

Teenerg

I had the same thing happen. Of course the shade that was completely crushed was the one I liked the most. I sent a picture Of my damaged palette and contacted customer service. They responded that they are working with the supplier on how to resolve…

Dani

The Juice Beauty eye serum included with my November box had a faulty pump. I took some photos and sent them to BC customer care with an explanation of the problem. A few days later I received a shipping notice along with an apology. So they took a few days to respond, but I received a replacement pretty quickly and without a hassle.

Tammy

My juice beauty thingy too was defective….

Dani

Ugh. Still waiting for a shipping notification. 🙁

I still haven’t received my box either but happy to say once I reached out they were quick to respond. I will be bummed if I don’t get the rose oil because I did choose that but received an email saying I got the face cream instead even though I didn’t pick that. Hope I get my box real soon.

My Boxy Luxe had a $485 VALUE! BC hit it out of the park this month with the value. Overall I am very happy! I received BOX 19
Storybook Little Briar Rose
Elemis Rose Facial Oil
Ciate Marbled light blusher
Fresh soy cleanser
qmS lip line corrector
IGK Charcoal Detox Dry shampoo
Kat Von D tatoo liner
Too faced Matte lipstick too dark color called I wanna rock with you BUT will pass it on and it is a nice matte lipstick in a tube
Rutuals foam shower gel

I would have liked the eye brow in light and a lighter shade in the melted too faced lip. But I am happy overall and want another BL box if I knew some of the items I didnt get would be in it.

My box arrived this morning at 7:50 AM. I could not believe it came so early and by FedEx. I got the same box as above except my eyeshadow was the little red riding hood and my eyebrow palette was in dark both of which I would’ve chosen for myself. I’m very happy with this months box. I’m waiting for premium to take me off the waitlist.

I think Boxy Charm is one of the best cosmetic boxes. This box is great! I have cut back on my subscriptions because of my budget, and miss getting them. I use the money I was using on sub boxes to purchase full size items of what I need. But, I love reading the reviews to get ideas of new items.

I can’t wait until my box comes! The tracking says Wednesday 🙂 yours looks so good!

I am in love with the greens in this palette, and I’m thinking I’ll order it while it’s on sale! I’m getting BoxyLuxe so I know I won’t get that palette, I’m a little sad, but I really love how Boxy is keeping the boxes great even if you haven’t subbed to the Premium or Luxe. It’s inportant to keep all your customers happy every month. Love your reviews! Thank you!

My box will be here in a couple days and I would love to trade the palette away if I get one.

Super disappointed with Boxy. I don’t get why EVERY subscription box sends lipstick in the same nude shade every month. I can’t even give them away anymore because my friends are like “you’ve already given me this shade.” I thought the storybook palette was dumb-it’s so bulky and not great quality and doesn’t stand out against the dozens of palettes we all get. I cancelled my subscription because what I get just doesn’t match my profile. I put in my profile I don’t want to receive lipstick, eyeshadow or blush and I got all three (again!). Yet, I said I wanted brow products and didn’t receive the brow kit-so disappointing!

CDG

I just got my box today. I’m so excited. This might be my favorite Boxy ever. I got the Elemis rose oil I was hoping for & can’t wait to use it! This one product made the box worth it for me. I also got the brow product, the blush & a lip exfoliator. My pallet was the red one, & I’m putting it in my 11-year-old’s stocking. I’m sure she will LOVE it! This is the first time in a long time that I can use every single product in the box.

Amber

I got this box too! I got the red storybook which is super pretty but I was hoping for the Robinhood one because my eyes are green. I was super bummed though as my select choice was the Saturday skin and I got the oil instead, but I’m still excited to try it out

Oh my, I bet she will be over the moon! What a great stocking stuffer. Glad you loved your box 🙂

I am cool with whichever palette I get but hoping for this green one. I am on the hunt for a few good greens. I picked the rose oil but never got a confirmation email. After picking, are you supposed to?

Reply ButtonReply

Jessica

Sydney Grace Co (an independent company out of California run by the nicest team) makes exceptional green single shadows. They also have a “Mountain Trail” bundle with lots of grungy greens and olives. They are AMAZING.

I would recommend the Huda Emerald Obsession palette. I’ve used it once before while visiting a friend and it’s just gorgeous what looks can be created with it. I wish we could post pics but if you Google Huda Emerald Obsession, I think you would like it.

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

I have yet to be disappointed by a Huda palette. I will have to peep the greens!

Elizabeth

I am always hunting for a good green palette too. I think green must be the hardest of the colors to make into great products which is why there’s so few on the market. Have you tried the Huda Obsessions gemstone palette in green? I tried it, and the colors are so very bold, I ended up looking a little clownish, but I’ll keep trying, maybe just use neutral transition shades and a pop of green on the center lid and as an under eyeliner. Green is so beautiful, makes my brown eyes pop! I also love the Makeup Revolutions Emily Wants palette. There are only 2 greens, but they go so well with the rest of the colors. Go do some swatches at Ulta and tell me what you think. I’m hoping Jeffree Star does a green palette, I think he will nail it.

Amanda O.

I hope I get this version! I think I could use every one of these items.

Looking forward to the blush and hope I get the brow item. Disappointed the first ingredient in the eyeshadow is talc, trying to stay away from that ingredient. Curious to see what variation I get!

Ronda

Besides not being really thrilled with the colors in the eye shadow palette and having way too many blushes already, if I got this exact box I would be thrilled.
Great review as always, thank you.
This will be my last box from an annual and wasn’t planning on subbing again but, if these kind of boxes keep coming I might reconsider..

Oooh I really love that blush! I’m getting my first Luxe box this month and I’m excited to see what I get.

This is such a fun box! The palette may not be practical, but I’m a sucker for packaging, and it’s adorable! Hope I get this version!

Got mine today and I love everything in the box! I love the Saturday skin product so much.. may just be my new favorite moisturizer. Really neat brow kit. Eyeshadow is ok but I will definitely use it. I’m loving the lip exfoliator though – so good

Whoops meant this as a comment and not to reply to you

pinkhoo

Yep. Five products in my box, a Chinese eyeshadow palette, a Chinese blush, a Chinese lip polish, a Chinese eyebrow product, and then one expensive made in England skincare product.

I wonder if this happened before, if this is going to be a thing, to use Chinese stuff to fill the box to offset the hero product?

Maren

So gross!

Marion

Lol, I think a brush cleaner is an exciting item! Mostly because we get sent a lot of brushes (& sponges) in subs, but rarely any brush cleaners!

So far, the only thing I don’t like from all the base box variants is the brow kit, so I took a chance & resubscribed for this month. I’m hoping to receive this Robin Hood palette (my name makes me feel connected to RH tales), but I love the reds of Little Red Riding Hood, too.

But Marion dies in the story. That’s very sad. Maude survives.

Depends on the version, lol.

More importantly, it’s the prettiest color in the palette! 😂 Megan says so!
