Bookroo Picture Book November 2019 Review

Bookroo sends the books individually wrapped each month which is such a nice treat. This month our paper is seasonal and so festive. I love the presentation!

Bookroo always includes an insert that gives a brief description of the books you receive with the board book box selections listed on one side and the picture book box selections on the other. They encourage you to share your books on social media and to leave a review of your book.

Hooray for Books! by Brian Won - Retail Value $16.99 (found here for $12.99)

Our first picture book is sure to please any book lover or animal lover like my son! Turtle can't seem to find his favorite book anywhere even after searching his entire house. Then he remembers that he may have lent it to a friend. He goes to see Zebra and ask him if he has it, but it seems that he has passed the book along. He does offer Turtle one of his favorite books, but Turtle is set on finding his own, so they go along to the next friend and continue on through all of their animal friends until they find the book he is looking for! This is a cute story with fun characters and repetitive ideas that kids should love and be able to catch onto quickly. We enjoyed this one a lot!

The Storm Whale in Winter by Benji Davies - Retail Value $16.99

This book is so beautifully illustrated and has a very sweet story about a boy named Noi who once helped a little whale. He hasn't seen the whale for a while but when Noi finds himself in trouble while searching for his father's boat after a big storm, the whale and his family come to his rescue! While the story is cute overall, and I really love the illustrations, the story felt like it was a little choppy to me and a bit too simplified. We find Noi's father, but there's no real explanation of what happened or how he was saved. It just leaves a little bit too much mystery for me as an adult! As for the kids, they enjoyed it and were able to infer what was happening from the pictures, so as a whole this story still works! The beautiful cover is enough to make me want to display this in our library.

Verdict: This month's selections from Bookroo were both enjoyable! The kids loved all of the animals in Hooray for Books! and they also appreciated the more serious tale of The Storm Whale in Winter. I liked the balance between the books and they were both unique and new to us. The kids and I also enjoyed the festive wrapping paper which makes it feel even more special to receive these. The total retail value of our books comes to $33.98 which is pretty good for a $24.94 ($19.95 + $4.99 shipping)/month box!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
