Beauty Heroes December 2019 Honua Review

Beauty Heroes sent a "hero" product with one "sidekick" this month from featured brand Honua Skincare. Both contain blue tansy so you know I am PUMPED.

Honua Skincare Līhau Refreshing Face Mist, 1 oz. - Retail Value $18.00

Let's talk about the sidekick simply because I use it first on my face. This mist is FANTASTIC! First of all- it includes my number one ingredient for skincare - blue tansy - which is also what you see floating around in there. It's all good, as they also mention it in the booklet. I just give it a little shake before using it to stir it up again. The 1-ounce bottle is perfect for travel and the misting nozzle on this baby is superfine! Yay! I usually do 2-3 spritzes which makes my face feel refreshed and fills the air with the intoxicating scent of blue tansy. In addition, the ingredients include Halo Aina sandalwood and neroli flower hydrosol blended with aloe vera leaf juice and witch hazel! How dreamy is that? "Līhau" means fresh rain and I am truly feeling that vibe from this mist.

Honua Skincare Mahealani Moonlit Glow Balm, 1.7 oz. - Retail Value $82.00

On to the hero! I'm over the moon to try not one but two new-to-me products from Honua Skincare. As a wonderful pairing (especially for winter), they've included the Mahealani Moonlit Glow Balm which is just as lovely as it sounds. This is a true balm in consistency as it's quite hardy and needs to be warmed in between my fingertips once I carve a little out with my nail. It smells HEAVENLY and as you can probably tell by the beautiful soft blue color also includes blue tansy in its ingredients list. Macadamia and kakui nut oils make up the heart of this balm with other Hawaiian botanicals like passionfruit seed, and vetiver root delivers powerful benefits like vitamin A, carotenoids, linoleic acid, and clearing properties respectively. The booklet talks about the Hawaiian traditional moon phases with Mahealani being the final full moon of the year and thus being important in conjuring up good fortune for the new year. Knowing that, this comes with perfect timing since the full moon will have arrived on the 12th here in Pittsburgh. Once warmed in my hands, I massage this into my face and especially into my chin which gets drier in the winter and a little red (which the blue tansy can help with). Only a pea-sized amount is needed so this jar is sure to last quite a long time! Since this is a heavier balm I choose to use it more at night but it can be used in the morning as well as a moisturizing step. I think this is a great product for the dry winter nights!

Verdict: Beauty Heroes really put thought into the products this month (as they always do). I was of course ridiculously excited about the blue tansy spotlight and found both the balm and the mist to calm my skin and fill my evening space with wonderful scents. Just these two items alone have a retail value of $100!

Jennifer

Does anyone know how it compares to Josh Rosebrook’s vital balm cream?

I’ve been using both and I really enjoy them. I use the JR one at night, as I find it to leave a more oily sheen. My skin is sooo soft when I wake up. The Honua balm I find to be less shiny (but still glowy, if that makes sense) and appropriate for daytime use and wear it over my face oil to protect my skin from harsh winter weather. My skin is super dry, for reference.
