November 2019 Target Beauty Box Curly Review

This info card provides a short description of each item sampled and on the flip side a Target coupon good for $3 off a beauty purchase of $15 or more. This month I received an in-store coupon that also includes a promo code you can redeem online.

Moving on to Target Beauty Box's November curly picks!

Mixed Chicks Curl Sculptor, 2 oz - Estimated Value $2.50 (Buy the 8 oz version for $9.99)

This product helps to elongate your curls (especially helpful if your curls are tight spirals), but it also helps to cut down on drying time. I used this in my hair before braiding my curls for the day, and I definitely felt like they dried a bit quicker than usual (if I am completely air-drying it can take 4 or more hours for it to completely dry) without weighing my hair down.

Maybelline Volum’ Express The Falsies Mascara, 0.15 oz - Estimated Value $3.89 (Buy the 0.25 oz version for $6.49)

This is a solid mascara- it gives volume and curl without clumping, but I did have some mild smudging when using it.

Creme of Nature Argan Oil Perfect Edges, 2.25 oz - Retail Value $5.69

This hair gel is the one product that doesn’t fit with my curly hair needs, but I have a friend I will be able to pass this along to. This is designed to help lay the edges of your hair (the baby wisps that are along your hairline), and this gel is infused with argan oil for a shiny hold.

Luster’s Pink Shea Butter & Coconut Oil Leave-In Conditioner, 2 oz - Estimated Value $1.33 (Buy the 12 oz version for $7.99

This leave-in conditioner is made with shea butter, coconut oil, and castor oil- all ingredients my dry curls love. This helped to control the frizz of my hair, and it worked well with a curl cream so my hair was both nourished and refined.

Luster’s Pink Shea Butter & Coconut Oil Moisturizing Hair Milk, 2 oz - Estimated Value $2.07 (Buy the 12-oz version for $12.39)

I’ll be honest- I don’t really know the difference between a hair milk and a leave-in conditioner, and I think they functioned the same way for my hair (at least, I used this product as a leave-in conditioner and was happy with it). This was a slightly thinner texture than the leave-in conditioner, but it still left my hair feeling hydrated.

Creme of Nature Pure Honey Knot Away Leave-In Conditioner, 8 oz - Retail Value $5.49

I love getting a full-size product in a $7 beauty box- and this is the second one in the box! This has coconut oil, shea butter, and honey to add in all the moisture that curly hair craves, and it didn’t leave my curls feeling weighed down. I’ll get lots of use out of this, and I appreciate that if I want to repurchase it’s such an affordable price.

Verdict: It is rare that a box is devoted entirely to curly hair products, so this Target Beauty Box was a treat to review. Sample sizes of curly hair products are more difficult to find, so all of these sizes felt generous (if the products were a fit for your hair I recommend grabbing more to have travel-sizes stocked up!). I calculated a total value of $20.97, which is about triple the cost of the box.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you order today? Yes, as of publication, this box is still available for purchase.

  • Mixed Chicks Curl Sculptor: $0.83
  • Maybelline Volum’ Express The Falsies Mascara: $1.30
  • Creme of Nature Argan Oil Perfect Edges: $1.90

I am a staunch believer that pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza and when I’m not working as a family law attorney I enjoy hiking the Louisiana trails (alligator sightings are a favorite!) or relaxing with Duchess, my cat. I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

I just got my box today and I’m so glad I ordered it! What a steal for $7! Best box they have had in months. I can’t believe how heavy it is, and it’s all stuff I’ll use.

Jessica,

How well did the know away leave in detangler work? I’m just a big ole knot when I get out of the shower even after using conditioner.

I liked everything in this box except the curl sculptor. It left a lot of residue in my hair and made it look like I had bad dandruff.

Thanks Jessica, nowadays I’m hesitant to buy Target boxes but after reading your review I’m considering buying this box.

Great review! I bought this box just for the Creme of Nature leave-in conditioner. So happy I did.. my hair is so dry and brittle from hypothyroidism and this product actually makes my hair look and feel so soft and healthy. It’s definitely something I will buy again!

Hi Jessica! Curl Box & Curl Kit (which I think is still around… but Curl Box definitely is) are boxes solely devoted to curly hair if you’re interested. Just thought I’d mention since you said it’s rare when a box is devoted to curly hair products (… or maybe you just meant Target boxes?). 🙂

thanks for reviewing this! i’ve been straightening my curly hair for years, bc of course a guy negatively impacted me on how much prettier i looked with straight hair. i’m working on embracing my curls, they were once beautiful curls but now more waves and second day is just so bad. any recommendations to help the curls, for repair and also to keep for second day? i was thinking of trying curl smith and needed ideas/recommendations for what to use at nighttime to preserve the curls. thank you! i’ve said it a thousand times, i can’t believe this website is free. thank you, Liz and everyone involved for this wonderful site and community.

To help with second day curls I recommend using a satin or silk pillow case (you can get them pretty cheap on Amazon) or using a hair wrap or night hat that is lined with satin. Those typically help me. Then in the morning I spray a little leave in conditioner or use and oil and do some scrunching.
If all else fails its up in a messy bun that ends up looking kinda trendy and fun lol.
