SnackSack Classic October 2019 Review

Included in our box was this handy brochure highlighting all of the snacks in the Classic, Vegan and Gluten-Free SnackSack boxes along with a fun Halloween design!

First-time subscribers will receive a reusable SnackSack bag that you can keep all of your snacks in!

Pretzel Pete Mini Twists in Cheese Pizza, 3.5 oz – Buy a box of 6 for $16.50

These pretzels were really good and I was impressed with how many came in the bag, too! It was a decent-sized snack, although I can't say that these lasted that long! They are cheese pizza flavor, but I think the dusting of cheese on them tasted more like cheddar with a little bit of seasoning. These are non-GMO, with no saturated or trans fats, and no artificial flavors or preservatives. They are also made in a peanut and nut-free facility. I'd gladly eat these any time and my husband agrees!

Bjorn Corn, 1 oz – Buy a box of 15 for $30.00

This sun-popped (it's reflected by mirrors to their kettles! Cool!) popcorn was just okay for us. It had a slightly odd flavor that I couldn't pinpoint that kept me from enjoying it more, which may have been the B-vitamin seasoning they use. This is made with just a few ingredients including homegrown non-GMO popcorn, safflower oil, yeast, and salt, plus it is gluten-free and vegan. It claims that it is high in protein and I think 4 grams is probably double most other popcorns, but not exactly what I'd called "high" in protein.

Lake Champlain Milk Chocolate Snack Bites, 3.5 oz – Retail Value $6.00

These were my favorite snack this month, but I'm a self-admitted chocoholic, so take that with a grain of salt! The kids also enjoyed this one as well. These are like a grown-up version of Crunch bars with organic milk chocolate filled with crispy quinoa inside. These bites were a decent size and a serving was 4 of these which probably adds up to about the same size as a Crunch bar and it does have a slightly lower amount of carbs and 1 gram of fat less if we're doing a full-on comparison here. I think I might actually like these better than the classic treat! The chocolate had a great flavor and was pretty addictive.

North Coast Organic Fruit and Veggie Apple Sauce, 1 pouch

This organic fruit and veggie pouch went right to the baby (he's 18 months) and he sucked it down quickly! I'm sure any of the kids would have been happy to have this, I tried a tiny bite and thought the flavor was okay, although I don't regularly eat pouches (it's a texture thing for me!). This one is apple-mango-sweet potato-apricot flavored and they use no added sugar or preservatives. It looks like these are so new to their line that they aren't available to purchase just yet!

Bakery on Main Organic Happy Granola in Sprouted Maple Quinoa 1.1 oz– Buy an 11 oz bag for $6.50

This granola was good. It had a slight maple flavor and lots of grains. This small bag was just enough to pour over a bowl of yogurt for some added texture and fiber! This is another non-GMO, gluten-free option and it has 20 grams of whole grains.

Torie and Howard Chewie Fruities, 0.42 oz – Buy a 4 oz bag here for $2.99

I thought this was a bag of fruit snacks at first, but instead, these turned out to be more similar to Starburst candies, although much softer in texture. These were pretty flavorful for having all-natural ingredients and no additives or preservatives. The pomegranate and nectarine one was pretty good and the sour apple flavor was very tart! The kids loved these and I thought they were good too. I do wish we got more than just two of them though!

Ekoa Bars in Pure Banana and Pure Mango – Buy a pack of 12 for $21.99

These bars are something I knew would appeal to my husband since he frequently snacks on bars similar to these although with more ingredients. The banana flavor here is simply dried banana and it had a strong banana flavor and was chewy and a bit tart. I am particular about my banana flavors and this one was a bit too strong for me. The mango was a mix of dates and mango and was a bit more chunky. It was sweeter than the banana and I thought it was pretty good! While my husband was a fan, these feel pretty pricey for what they are!

Nature's Bakery Brownie Double Chocolate – Buy a 6 count box for $6.00

This is a familiar brand as my husband and boys love the fig bars they sell. While these would never pass for brownies in my book, they aren't bad and are a healthy way to get a chocolate fix. These are made from cocoa, dates, and whole wheat and the date flavor was pretty strong, but since I love dates, this was a good thing for me. The kids weren't huge fans, but I think I set these up for failure by referring to them as brownies. These are much different from the brownies they are used to!

Papa's Pops Skinless Popcorn in Sweet & Salty, 0.42 oz

Well, I was the only one in the family who liked these. My daughter ate a few, but I think she got turned off when they began to get stuck in her teeth and my son wouldn't even try them since they weren't so pleasing to the eye. My husband said they tasted like stale Corn Pops, and I have to agree, but they also had a sweet sugar coating that I enjoyed. The texture was a little bit strange, but the story behind these is cute! Papa created this for his grandkids who hated how the kernels in popcorn would always get stuck in their teeth and irritate their gums so these are made without the "skin" or the hull.  Although it kind of makes me wonder if our bag really was stale since they definitely still got stuck in our teeth!

Legendary Foods Tangy Ranch Seasoned Almonds, 1.5 oz – Retail Value $2.74

Almonds are a snack that I love and this 1.5 oz pack is perfect to stash in your purse or car! These had a slight ranch flavor, but I swear what really stuck out to me was the erythritol that it contained. I am a bit sensitive to sugar substitutes (natural sweeteners included), so the average person might not notice it, though. The almonds themselves were good and since the flavor was subtle I was still able to eat them, although I really wish it didn't have the sweetener because I don't think they needed it.

Smart Tart Blueberry Acai 2 packs – Buy a 12 pack for $29.99

When I first saw these, I thought that they would be like a healthy Pop-Tart, but these actually reminded me more of a very thin fig bar. These are low in sugar, contain no artificial flavors, and are preservative-free. The blueberry-acai flavor was good and my husband and son ate these up!

The Verdict: This was my family's first time receiving a SnackSack box and overall, we were pretty impressed! There seemed to be a good mix to suit all of our family members and we discovered a few delicious snacks that provided healthier alternatives to our usual snacks. Those chocolate bites were so yummy and I will definitely be looking to buy more, although I am not sure they are the healthiest choice in general. The pretzels were also really good and such a nice size bag, too! While we only received 11 different types of snacks, we received 13 different snacks total and I think that's a pretty good value for this $24.95 (with free shipping) box!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, but order by the 15th of the month to receive the November box!

Value Breakdown: This box costs $22.95 with free shipping which means that each of the 11 types of items in the box has an average cost of $2.09.

Yum, great review! I’ve gotten this box in the past but canceled since the entire thing is for me (no one to share with, haha). But I might have to resub soon!

Thanks for reading, Claire! That’s understandable – although some of the snacks I wish I didn’t have to share! 😂
