Marc Jacobs "A Little Mystery" Set November 2019 Review

Fineliner in Steel(etto), 0.10 g - Retail Value $25

This was my first time trying the Fineliner eyeliner from Marc Jacobs, and I love that we received a shade that isn't black! Steel(etto) is a gorgeous light blue-grey color and this pencil has a super-fine tip, coming in at 2 mm. The formula was a firm gel that didn't tug, and I liked how close to my lashline I could get with this.

Twinkle Pop Eyeshadow Stick in Stardust, 0.05 oz - Retail Value $28 (currently on sale for $14)

This product was a surprise for me- I was expecting only three products in my mystery set, and the shape of this product didn't appear in the spoilers photo like the other three did. This is a creamy eyeshadow in a charcoal black with iridescent shimmer, and you can use a brush to blend it out to be pretty sheer if charcoal eyeshadow isn't your thing. I used it to add definition on my lashline and outer corners of my eyes, blended with the other eyeshadow in this box, and I was very happy with the end result.

O!Mega Eyeshadow in O!MG, 0.13 oz - Retail Value $29 (currently on sale for $23)

I own a few Marc Jacobs eyeshadow palettes, but this is my first single shadow from the brand. This has a gel-powder texture that blends really easily, and I had zero issues with creasing. The shade O!MG is a pretty coppery shimmer that is nice, but not exactly unique in my makeup collection.

Le Marc Lipstick in Kate, 0.12 oz - Retail Value $32 (currently on sale for $25)

This lipstick is everything- it was love at first application. The texture is buttery and non-drying to my lips, and even though it has a cream finish it still lasted long without wearing off. The shade Kate is a cool-toned medium plum, and it honestly is becoming my go-to everyday lipstick.

Here are the swatches. From top to bottom we have Stardust, Steel(etto), O!MG, and Kate.

Here I am wearing O!MG all over my lid, with Stardust blended into the lash line and outer corner for some definition without being too smokey. I finished the look with black liquid eyeliner and mascara, and I am wearing Kate on my lips.

The Verdict: I am a Marc Jacobs fan in general, so I have eagerly been awaiting a new mystery box from them. I thought this was a great deal- all of the products are the same Marc Jacobs quality, and none of the colors feel like unloved rejects that never sold (I should probably point out here that I chose the "everyday" color scheme). The value of this kit is a great deal, too, with a total retail value of $114.

To Wrap Up:

Can you get this box if you order today? No, this is sadly sold out.

Value Breakdown: This box cost $40.95 ($35 for the box and $5.95 shipping) and I calculated a total value of $114. That means you are paying approximately the following per item:

  • Fineliner: $8.99
  • Twinkle Pop: $10.07
  • O!Mega Eyeshadow: $10.42
  • Le Marc: $11.50

I am a staunch believer that pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza and when I’m not working as a family law attorney I enjoy hiking the Louisiana trails (alligator sightings are a favorite!) or relaxing with Duchess, my cat. I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

The eyeshadow and eye liner were at Ross. Liked the eyeshadow consistency a lot! There was a black color shadow as well. I use it as liner. I want all of the sjadows now! The liner was just OK for me–but used it with a silver glitter shadow and liked the effect.

Yes, I saw a post for these mystery boxes here. I considered purchasing, but didn’t pull the trigger because I am on makeup overload at the moment. It is/was definitely a good deal, especially because she didn’t receive crazy colors like is often the case with mystery boxes (Jeffree Star comes to mind.) I really love that they give you an everyday option and a bold option. So few companies do this!

How did I miss this? Was there an MSA heads up? Anyway, those Omega shadows are amazing. I actually got the same one at TJ Maxx for like 8 bucks. They’re even cheaper at Ross. Unfortunately haven’t been able to find any other colors other than OMG.

I was pretty disappointed with mine. I ordered two bags, one mini and the bigger one. I did not receive palette and three items were identical between bags. I contacted CS stating that their picture was deceiving because it showed palette, but they never responded. Even the product is good, I wont buy from them again.

Mt box was fabulous– even better than the one shown! I was ecstatic with my eye shadow palette and bronzer I received as well as all the other items! I will definitely buy another box when it comes around again/
