Gramma in a Box "Thanksgiving Theme Treats" November 2019 Review

Each month we receive a card that highlights the theme and lists the contents of our box which includes two sheets of wax paper that serve as placemats to make for easy cleanup. The three projects all come on individual recipe cards that list the ingredients on the back. The directions are easy to follow and any important information is highlighted in red which is always helpful. This month our theme is "Thanksgiving Theme Treats" and it looks like they will be having a great deal for their Black Friday sale!

Project #1: Turkey Buddies

The first candy project was to make turkey buddies using melting chocolate, crackers, candy corn, sunflower seeds, and some candy eyes.

We spread out the two pieces of parchment paper they provided and then our first step was to melt our chocolate wafers and stir them until smooth.

Next, we divided up our ingredients so we each had two crackers, two sunflower seed noses, four candy eyes, and enough candy corn to give each of our turkey buddies three feathers.

I spread a dollop of chocolate over the surface of the crackers and then we all got to work putting them together.

I thought they turned out pretty cute! The taste was pretty good, too with the buttery, salty crunch of cracker mixed with the sweet chocolate and chewy candy corn. These are an easy and fun treat to make and a great way to use up any extra candy corn you might have lying around!

Project #2: Harvest Bark

The next project was to make harvest bark using the leftover melted chocolate, some roasted peanuts, sprinkles, candy corn, and some Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal.

We stirred half of the cereal into our melted chocolate then I poured it out into a big rectangle shape and we added all of the mix-ins to the top.

This bark was pretty chunky by the time we finished, but it actually held together pretty well once the chocolate set and it was delicious! The cinnamon cereal was kind of odd to me at first, but it went well with all of the other flavors and we all enjoyed eating it.

Project #3: Fall Cookie Decorating

The last activity was our cookie decorating which we always have a blast with! We received 2 pumpkins, 2 turkeys, 2 leaves, and 2 acorns along with yellow, orange, and brown icing and a few cups of sprinkles.

This time we actually had so much fun decorating that I didn't get any process photos at all! You can tell that the kids were very into the decorating this time because our cookies look even more polished than usual.

I did get some good photos of them enjoying their treats though!

Here is our finished plate of "Thanksgiving Treats." We had 8 cookies, 6 turkey buddies, and a nice thick piece of harvest bark to share. It's always just enough for a few treats each without a ton of leftovers! That last photo is courtesy of my daughter who wanted to take a photo of our cookies for you and I think her perspective makes them look even tastier!

Clean up is always super easy afterward, too! I throw all of the plastic wraps and containers in the box as we go and recycle the whole thing when we are done, although I did save a few of the little cups for us to use for crafts after some great reader suggestions! The kids usually begin digging into our treats while I clean up and then we are free to move onto our next activity without a pile of dirty dishes waiting for me. In addition to the easy cleanup, I also feel like the whole experience is much more fun since I didn't have to plan it out or shop for it either!

Verdict: This month's Gramma in a Box had some fun treats for us with a few new ingredients like the crackers and the Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal which were both much more delicious with the addition of chocolate! This box is something we look forward to each month and I love that it allows the kids to be creative while we spend some quality time together with no real stress and minimal effort on my part. Plus we have dessert for a few nights that the kids seem to love even more since they had a hand in creating them! This $20 subscription is always worth it for the quality time we get to spend together!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

These are super cute–the treats and the kiddos–but how do they taste?
The treats–not the kiddos!

Haha thanks! The treats are good! The turkeys were a good mix of salty and sweet and the bark had a lot going on, but was pretty yummy! The cookies are good – more of a shortbread style and not super sweet. I actually prefer to eat them when they are a day or so old because they taste better to me that way for some reason! The kids are happy to eat the cookies right away though! 🙂
