Dermstore Holiday Edit 2019 Review

Here is the info sheet for the box.

boscia Luminizing Black Charcoal Mask, 0.68 oz - Estimated Value $8.26 (Buy the 2.8 oz version for $34)

I love boscia as a brand, but this mask isn't for me. I am very wary of peel-off masks because they can actually do more harm than good when it comes to your pores, and they're not actually that effective at clearing out your pores. That is my story and I'm sticking to it, and using this mask didn't change my mind.

Naturopathica Manuka Honey Cleansing Balm, 0.88 oz - Estimated Value $19.48 (Buy the 2.8 oz version for $62)

Do I have about four full-size open cleansing blams right now? Yes. Did I fall in love with this anyway and now I'm dreaming of owning this in the full size? Also yes- this stuff is dreamy. This cleansing balm has ingredients like manuka honey, royal jelly peptides, and hyaluronic acid. It did a great job of removing my makeup while leaving my skin feeling nourished, and the experience of using it was a luxurious one thanks to the creamy balm texture that melted into my skin upon contact.

First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads28 count - Retail Value $17

The short story: I love these pads and I will take all of them that I can get. The long story: Sephora revamped their point system a year or so ago, and it really incentivized me to save them. Recently, I was able to use 1500 of my points to get a box of full-size First Aid Beauty goodies in their limited edition birthday print, and included was a jar of these bad boys. I have been using them consistently for a few weeks now (at a minimum of once a day, sometimes both in the morning and at night), and I really have noticed a difference both in the radiance of my skin and how my acne marks are clearing up. This is very close to entering into holy grail status for me, but it is absolutely a repurchase for sure.

Bioderma Sensibio H2O3.4 oz - Retail Value $5.90

This was one of the OG cleansing waters for me- it is no fuss, no muss, but removes light makeup and sunscreen with a few swipes of a cotton pad.

Skyn Iceland Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels1 pair - Estimated Value $4.38 (Buy a pack of four for $17.50)

I absolutely adore eye masks, and these specific ones from Skyn Iceland were some of the first ones I ever remember trying! I am a sucker for cooling eye patches, and these will be cooling even when I am wearing them for an hour. They adhere well to my face, too, so I am able to putter around the apartment if I can't just lay in bed relaxing.

SkinMedica HA5, 0.13 oz - Estimated Value $15.60 (Buy the 1 oz version for $120)

Oh, hello super fancy tiny sample- how you doin'? This serum claims to provide eight hours of continuous hydration and has ingredients like hyaluronic acid, peptides, and vitamin E. This was nice enough, but nowhere near as impressive as I would expect for a product of this price point.

Sunday Riley Auto Correct, 0.17 oz - Estimated Value $22.10 (Buy the 0.5 oz version for $65)

I have yet to find an eye cream that I truly love, so I am always down to try more. This absorbed quickly into the skin and left it feeling moisturized. I liked it, but it's not a love- what am I missing in my eye cream search?

Verdict: Dermstore killed it with this $20 box- the samples were high-valued, and I am stoked about products like the cleansing balm and radiance pads. Dermstore promised a value of $100, and by my math, they came up a bit short with a total value of $92.72. I definitely still think this is worth the cost, though!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you order today? Yes, as of publication, this limited edition box is still available for purchase!

Value Breakdown: This box cost $19.99 which means you are paying approximately the following per item:

  • boscia: $1.78
  • Naturopathica: $4.20
  • First Aid Beauty: $3.67
  • Bioderma: $1.27
  • Skyn Iceland: $0.94
  • SkinMedica: $3.36
  • Sunday Riley: $4.76

I am a staunch believer that pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza and when I’m not working as a family law attorney I enjoy hiking the Louisiana trails (alligator sightings are a favorite!) or relaxing with Duchess, my cat. I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

When you add in the clear bag ($19.99 retail value), it adds up to over $100 🙂

Thanks for another great review!

I am also still in search of a great eye cream. I’ve tried dozens at this point, including Strivectin, SR Auto Correct, Murad, Kiehls, IT, etc.,etc. I only have fine lines and occasionally bags. Dr. Brandt works well to temporarily depuff, but I’m looking for an everyday product that shows results!

I’ve been using eye cream since I was a teenager and it’s served me well. Then I saw a Hot and Flashy episode where she claimed to not use ANY eye cream ever — just to use her skincare products on her entire face. I tried it for a week and could already see a difference — and not in a good way. So I am back to my tried and true. Eye creams I have liked: IT cosmetics Confidence in an Eye Cream, the Eluviance eye cream. It kind of depends on what you’re looking for.

And drink at least a gallon of water daily. No alcohol or tobacco. Get outside, walk, hike. I eat anything I want. 1000 (at least) of C daily. D3 daily. 10,000 of biotin daily. L-lysine daily. Iron daily. I have no grey hair and have never dyed my natural honey blonde. Always about waist length. Those are my ‘secrets’ to natural beauty.

Thank you!

111Skin for long term results. 100% Pure Coffee Bean for depuff or bags. Lavido for pure daily luscious eye moisturizing. I’m 60 and my eyes look 30s. Those are my products to achieve this. Also, sunscreen EVERY day.

There’s absolutely nothing I need in this box. I have the full size Skinmedica HA product and love it for my combination skin. My aesthetician strongly recommends it. I’ve tried probably 100 or more eye creams and my favs are Neocutis and La Mer. I have that SR eye cream and every time I use it I seem to get a stye-like eye infection. I guess it’s time to give up and throw it away.

There is a great Netflix series called “Broken”

The first episode talks about counterfeit makeup and eye infections are associated with counterfeit products made in a cheap “lab” in China.

I don’t buy makeup from Amazon or Ebay because there are counterfeits all over the place. Rodent feces, bacteria and carcinogens are in most of these products which are made under very unsanitary conditions in pop up labs all over China.

It covers the street markets, role of influencers in promoting shady products and the war against counterfeit cosmetics. Counterfeit cosmetics are now making more $ than illegal drugs.

I kept seeing this in the store and resisted. I’m sooo on overload for skincare! Really I’m on overload for everything! Lol

Claire

Hi, I just checked and it appears to be in stock.

Kelly

I just ordered one from Target! With the 30% discount and my $3 off code from the last Target beauty box it came to under $13!

Kelli

How do you get the discount?

Nat

The only thing that looks interesting to me is naturopathica. I’ve tried a couple of things from that brand and everything was lovely. As for everything else, I find it boring. Last year’s dermstore target box was so much better. Easy pass for me

With the discount, I ordered a second one – nice box!

Jessica, love your reviews. I agree; those FAB pads are the complete jazz! That’s one of my ‘never out’ products. It’s the first thing I reach for after a day at the office to wipe off commute crud and makeep and also after a dusty session of horse training and ranch work.

About the eye cream…I’ve tried plenty. My two favorites are 111Skin and Lavido. For value, quality, redults, and pure luscious feel, try Lavido. It’s clean beauty, too.

In closing, Geaux Tigers!

Do you use the FAB pads after cleansing? And before toner or serum or in place of?

Reply ButtonReply

Alice R

I use them as a quick clean when I get in from work every day. At night I do my regular cleanse, serum, moisture, etc. You can use the pads in place of a regular cleanser if you wish. You will still need your moisturizer, etcbefore bed.
