This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Bombay & Cedar "Agility" Review

The box comes with a booklet of information that lists out the products and highlights some of the brands. The theme this month is "Agility."

Spearmint Essential Oil, 10 ml - Listed Value $14.00

Rosemary Essential Oil, 10 ml - Listed Value $14.00

This was an interesting combo this month. Spearmint is so energizing and rosemary is a cozy scent! I wouldn't even use these two together, but both blend beautifully with my other two faves: lavender and sweet orange.

IQ Bar - Buy 12 for $24.99

This box always sends a treat that I seem to enjoy more often than not. This month was a yummy bar with chocolate chips! It has brain-boosting nutrients and a nice amount of protein, so it was perfect for a 3pm slump!

Hemp Seed Body Care Spray Oil, 8 fl oz - Retail Value $15.99

I probably would have liked this oil if it weren't for the cucumber/melon scent. It was way too sweet and food-y for my nose, and reminded me of summer and Bath & Body Works. The oil itself felt nice on my skin and was quick-absorbing, so if you like these sorts of scents you might enjoy this oil mist much more than I did.

399 Games to Keep Your Brain Young – Retail Value $16.95 (found here for $11.69)

I don't like puzzles very much. Ok, I don't like them at all! This book is full of them and encourages you to do a few a day to keep your mind sharp. My mind has already been ruined by video games, but I know my Nana loves puzzle books. I will pass this on to her to enjoy. She will likely be much more into them than I.

Almost Famous Brow Shaver - Listed Value $24.00- $29.00

This was a variant item, and it looks like there were a few different tools from this brand possible in this month's assortment. I ended up with a brow shaver, which, sadly, I don't see myself using. I have been trying to grow my brows out for years now after chronically over-plucking them. I basically pluck a hair every so often with tweezers, but if you have seen any images of me on this site, you know I don't really maintain them at all. It is what it is! I will pass this along to someone with much fleeker brows.

Ampere Creations Vegan Handbag - Retail Value $35.00

This purse is pretty cute. It is a nice shade of green and as far as pleather goes, the quality isn't bad! I am always going to prefer real leather (I actually don't carry pleather) but this little bag is very cute if you prefer non-animal options. The interior is a cream-and-brown striped fabric and it comes with both a crossbody strap and a short wristlet leash.

Pocket Aroma - Retail Value $19.99

This box sometimes tends to send along an aromatherapy item of some sort along with the two bottles of oils. This month was a portable aromatherapy kit containing 12 different colorful bottles and 18 wicks you can drop oils on and place inside. You can then take your custom blends with you wherever you want, and never be without your fave uplifting or relaxing oils. Each is about the size of a lighter, which makes them extremely portable, but people might eyeball you if you are sniffing them in public.

Charcoal Infused Exfoliating Towel - Listed Value $7.00

I thought this was kind of an odd addition to this box. It felt a little unexciting. I do see the allure though, as charcoal-infused fibers help detox your skin, and the exfoliating texture is great for energizing your skin, especially after the gym.

IPO Cosmetics 4-Step Facial Kit - Retail Value $15.00

I liked these Korean-made masks. This set came with 2, and each is meant to be used before a special event. There are 4 steps in different compartments within each pouch. The 4 steps included are an exfoliating scrub, sheet mask, hydration cream, and finally an eye cream. I don't have anywhere special to be going until later in the holiday season, but doing one of these on a Tuesday night still felt really fancy!

Verdict: I didn't love this month's Bombay & Cedar. It actually felt more than a little disjointed in terms of a theme, at least to me. There were a few wins in here for me, notably the essential oils and facial masks. I thought the portable aromatherapy kit was very interesting, though I am not sure how practical this is for me personally since I have so many roll-ons I love. Aside from these items, I wasn't really feeling the rest of the box, though each of these items will make nice little gifts for someone else.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, but order by 11/12 to get the November box!

Value Breakdown: This box costs $49.95 + $6.95 shipping, which means that each of the 10 items in the box has an average cost of $5.69.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

Thank you for bringing up the topic of vegan leather. It’s vinyl or plastic or pleather, but it is definitely a synthetic material. Cotton, bamboo, linen, or canvas, just all kinds of fabrics that are better for the environment and sustainable that could make lovely handbags, totes or wallets, etc. Oh well, off of my soap box. I like leather and natural fibers, but I am definitely not into the vegan leather jargon.

I love a waxed canvas any day! It is such a great alternative to both leather and “pleather”. I wish I would see more heavy canvas or even linen in subs in general.. I will even wax it myself!

I love Bombay and cedar boxes but I’ve bedn really disappointed with the shipping of the last two boxes. I got my September box in October and my October box is supposed to be here tomorrow. I hope they fix these issues soon, it’s very frustrating.

I have noticed they seem to arrive a little later for me too, at least when compared to last year when I started reviewing it. I wonder if they have changed shipping partners or something?

I have an annual sub and my October box has no even shipped!

I liked everything in this box! The themes are kind of vague – but I don’t care about that. I got a smaller sized book that I take with me when I’m going to be waiting somewhere – may as well use my brain. The purse works for me, and everything else will be used. I actually traded for an extra of the brow shaver to have in reserve. It can also be used on one’s upper lip if that’s an area you get waxed occasionally. I have less use for the aromatherapy set, but that type of item is to be expected in this box.

That little bag looks so cute and functional but I also can’t do fake leather/vinyl. I understand that leather is controversial so how about a nice heavy cotton canvas. I don’t see too much complaining about a functional cotton canvas bag. Why do sub boxes so often choose faux leather instead of fabric? On a separate note I am totally into that puzzle book…heading over to check out swaps now to see if I can get lucky…

I love a heavy canvas so much.. they only get better with time! Good luck finding your book <3

This was my first box from them. I thought it was a bit disjointed but I like almost everything in the box. The puzzle book is added to my mom’s Christmas present. I choose the yellow version of the bog you got, while I too do not like pleather I thought it was soft and the perfect yellow accent when I want a pop of color, then I used it and it functions for me and have yet to change out of it. I keep one of the aroma inhalers at my desk and use it almost daily. The bath scrubber is actually the type I use already so it will be a nice replacement for when my current is old. I love masks so that is always good.
My only real disappointment in the box was that I requested the eyebrow shaper, but received an eyelash curler that I will never use as I find them pointless.
Over all it was random stuff but I liked the box.

I wish that bag was leather or if not leather than canvas. I hate hate plastic bags. I totally understand why people don’t want leather but there are other material options that aren’t plastic. It is a cute style just not for me.

This October box is why I don’t subscribe to Bombay. Not a single item is even remotely appealing to me. For $15 I’d gamble, but for almost $60 I want to enjoy every box. I just can’t afford to throw away this much money.

Megan I want to thank you for your honest opinion I felt the same way about this box. When I started this box I thought I was going to love everything in it. And I’ve been very disappointed.

Megan K.

You are welcome, Patricia! B&C usually has more stuff I like, I think this month was just a dud for me personally.

I LOVED this box. I couldn’t believe we got a huge puzzle book! This is why this sub is unique and not like any other sub around. They don’t send the same crap. I will say the pocket inside my purse (same as this picture but I chose yellow) was ripped at the seam inside even though it was new, but I had my mom sew it up and you cannot when tell them difference now. For those who loved these puzzle books- Nancy Linde has 3 more! This one and the 415 more puzzles one (which I got in the box) and a new one this year that is smaller and for a quick puzzle each day.

I am glad you loved it Kyla! I have high hopes for next month. 🙂

Actually I could see myself using every single thing in this box. I would have loved it. I just have to get rid of a bunch of my very inexpensive subs and go for it. Nice review!

Oh,and I think the Pocket Aroma thing is awesome if you are having a stressful day at work (sniff in the bathroom😝),or even if you are stuck in traffic and need to have a relaxing moment.

I actually have been keeping one on my desk and sniff it almost daily. I thought it was a neat little item.

Mary

Maybe I’m missing something, but I’m not sure how most of these items tie into the theme of agility.

Reply ButtonReply

Elle Em

I was thinking the same thing. I think agility has different connotations. What does agility mean to them? What does agility mean to you, the subscriber?

Reply ButtonReply

Sammee

I can see how a few of them (book, oils, snack bar) would go towards keeping an agile mind. But I agree the theme doesn’t run through the whole box.
