Birchbox x PETER THOMAS ROTH Kit Review

This kit normally comes with an info sheet detailing the products, but the wrong one was placed in my bag by accident. Luckily, I was able to put that law degree to use and found the information I needed about the products online.

Cucumber Gel Mask, 0.47 oz – Estimated Value $5.17 (Buy the full-size 5 oz version for $55)

This mask is definitely one of the best ones I have tried for irritated or sensitive skin- it is so calming and soothing. Made with ingredients like cucumber, chamomile, and aloe, this mask is nourishing and great for calming skin that’s sunburned or dealing with a painful breakout. The instructions say to wear it for ten minutes and wash off, but I have seriously left this on for over an hour and my skin was happy.

FIRMx® Peeling Gel, 0.5 oz - Estimated Value $7.05 (Buy the full-size 3.4 oz version for $48)

Peeling gels are pretty popular in K-beauty, so I am familiar with the concept. This one from PTR also uses fruit enzymes like pineapple and pomegranate for additional exfoliation, as well as hyaluronic acid for a bit of hydration. Using this did leave my skin looking smoother, and I like that I can leave this on for a few minutes before rinsing it away if I want to let the fruit enzymes do a little more exfoliating.

Water Drench® Hyaluronic Cloud Cream, 0.25 oz – Estimated Value $8.13 (Buy the 1.6 oz version for $52)

This oil, fragrance, and alcohol-free moisturizer packs a large punch of hydration thanks to a formula that is 30% concentrated hyaluronic acid! This is also packed with skin-loving ceramides and elderberry, and it is designed to provide a ton of moisture while still having the consistency of a water gel compared to a heavier cream. This sinks in quickly, and it should work well for both dry and oily skin.

Hungarian Thermal Water Mineral-Rich Atomic Heat Mask 0.47 oz – Estimated Value $5.53 (Buy the full-size 5.1 oz version for $60)

This mask is actually one of my favorites! You apply this mask to dry skin, let it sit for a few minutes, and then use COOL water to massage the mask further into your skin. As soon as the mask comes into contact with water it heats up very quickly, and the heat, while short-lived, was definitely hot. Since I don’t have fine lines I cannot really attest to if it helps with that, but my skin always feels and looks better when I’m done using this quick mask.

Peptide 21 Wrinkle Resist Serum, 0.17 oz - Estimated Value $21.25 (buy the 1 oz version for $125)

I was excited to see this in the kit because it is one of PTR’s newer releases (and boy is it pricey!). Along with peptides to fight visible fine lines and wrinkles, this also has squalane and rose flower water so it’s extra nourishing as well. This did leave a tacky finish, but that problem is solved by following up with a moisturizer.

Retinol Fusion PM Night Serum, 0.4 oz - Estimated Value $26 (Buy the 1 oz version for $65)

I was excited to see this sample again- the last time I tried it I was brand new to retinol, so I took things very slow. With retinol you definitely want to build up a tolerance and not overdo it, and this serum features both encapsulated retinol along with squalane and vitamins C and E, so it’s much more nourishing than a standard retinol product. I love that this sample is a little less than half the size of the full-size product, too. While I am a big believer in wearing sunscreen every day, make extra sure you’re wearing it on days after applying retinol products like this one!

Anti-Aging Cleansing Gel, 1 oz – Estimated Value $4.58 (Buy the full-size 8.5 oz version for $39)

This cleanser isn’t groundbreaking, but I still like it. It has a light fruity scent (most likely due to the citrus extracts) and my face felt noticeably softer after using it.

Verdict: PETER THOMAS ROTH is one of my favorite brands, so this kit was a lot of fun to experience. I love that some pricier samples were included, and as a whole, I think each sample gives you enough product to decide if the full-size version is worth the investment for you. Birchbox promised a total value of $74, and they exceeded that promise with a value totaling $77.71

I am a staunch believer that pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza and when I’m not working as a family law attorney I enjoy hiking the Louisiana trails (alligator sightings are a favorite!) or relaxing with Duchess, my cat. I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

How do you get the Hungarian Thermal Water Mineral-Rich Atomic Heat Mask out of the tube??! I always have issues getting it out of the tube and I haven’t been able to try mine out because it’s so hard to come out and I dont want to cut the thing down and waste it.

I really like this brand and the cleanser is one of my favourite cleansers ever (and I’ve tried so many) the large thing of it lasts me so far over a year of almost daily use. I put a swirl on my clarasonic and let it set on my face while I rinse and dry the clarasonic and then rinse my face , and my break outs have become way less. Really liking this brand.

I’ve gone through a few samples of that PTR heat mask, and I agree that it truly is a pain to get out of the tube. However, I’ve found that if I run the tube under warm or hot water and massage the tube it’ll sort of loosen the product, and you’ll be able to squeeze it out. Also, definitely heed the instructions of using cool water to activate it! I made the mistake once of not really thinking it was a big deal, and I wet my fingers with warm water to activate it, and that was a HUGE mistake! Like Jessica said, when it activates, while the heating sensation is fairly short lived, it is very warm and almost on the hot side, so using warm water to activate it made it feel like it was melting my skin off… which it sort of looked like when I rinsed it off because my face was super blotchy & red, and extremely textured looking for the rest of the night. (sorry skin) Fortunately, everything was back to normal the next morning. Whew!
