Birchbox Find Your Lip Love Kit Review

Here is the info sheet for the products included.

M·A·C Cosmetics Lipglass in Love Child, 0.08 oz - Estimated Value $14 (Buy the 0.1 oz version for $17.50)

Love Child is a plumy mauve that has a slight pearl finish. When I wear it on its own I do find it to be slightly sticky, but not terrible. My preferred way to use this is to accent the fullness of my lips by just dabbing it right in the center. I tried that over the tarte lipstick and lip liner combo from this set, and it was both comfortable and looked great.

ColourPop Cosmetics Crème Lux Lipstick in LA Lady, Full-Size! Retail Value $7.50

This is the one lip product that is a bit of a miss for me, and that’s just because LA Lady is a bit too brown for my complexion. I have used the Creme Lux lipsticks from ColourPop before, and they apply smoothly and are comfortable to wear- don’t let how affordable this is fool you into thinking it’s not top-notch.

butter LONDON Sheer Wisdom™ Lip Oil in Dusty Mauve, 0.4 oz - Estimated Value $11 (Buy the 0.8 oz version for $22)

I love a good lip oil because of how comfortable they are, and this was no exception. I wore this all day yesterday when I was feeling dehydrated and my lips were chapped and cold, and this helped to add nourishment and shine. Swatched, the shade Dusty Mauve looked a lot more pigmented, but on my lips, it barely added color. I still loved it, this is just a lot more natural-looking than I expected.

Laura Geller New York Lip Strip Smoothing Sugar Scrub, 0.24 oz - Estimated Value $7.83 (Buy the 0.49 oz version for $16)

I’ve tried this before, and while this sample will get used this is definitely not a product I would buy the full-size version of. For being a sugar scrub, this has almost zero exfoliation in its hydrating base. It’s like this product couldn’t decide if it wanted to be a lip mask or a lip scrub, so it tried to be both (unsuccessfully).

Love of Color Vibrant Matte Lipstick in Rose to the Occasion, 0.2 oz. - Full-Size! Retail Value $10

I am a sucker for rosy mauve lip colors, so this pencil is right in my wheelhouse. Even though this is a matte formula, I was impressed that it was still creamy to apply and comfortable to wear. This didn’t have the same longevity as a matte liquid lipstick, but the portable size and pencil tip make it easy to reapply on the go.

tarte The Lip Architect™ Lipstick & Liner in Romantic, Full-Size! Retail Value $24

This may be one of my favorites out of the box, which I honestly wasn’t expecting. This features a lip liner on one end and a coordinating lipstick shade on the other. The liner lined my lips really well with no feathering, and the lipstick was creamy and soft (I actually pressed too hard when I was swatching it on my arm!). Together, this was a really natural pink lip look that looked pretty and polished while still being comfortable to wear.

Lipstick Queen Shade Shifter in Old Flame, 0.12 oz - Retail Value $25

I love Lipstick Queen and I am always stoked to see it in subscription boxes, especially full-size! This is a pH-adjusting lip color that looks bright orange in the tube but is a pretty peach shade once it is on my lips. The formula is really moisturizing too, so it’s comfortable to wear all day and to touch up with.

Here are the swatches! From top to bottom we have the tarte lipstick and lip liner, Lipstick Queen, ColourPop, LOC, MAC, and Butter London.

Here I am wearing the tarte lip combo.

And here I am wearing that same lipstick but with the MAC lip gloss dabbed onto the center of my lips.

Verdict: This is one of my favorite Birchbox kits to date- all of the lip products are great sizes and good shades that should work for a majority of people. The fact that this kit includes four full-size products and includes a cute heart-shaped makeup bag is the icing on the cake. If you have a lipstick lover in your life, you can't go wrong putting this under the tree for them. Value-wise, Birchbox promised a total value of $95, and they exceeded that with my math adding up to $99.33

Hi Jessica, thank you for the great review. Really thorough and an entertaining read as usual!

On a somewhat unrelated note, I am looking for a toner / essence to use after a double cleanse that is kind of viscous, removes any last little bits of makeup yet is sort of soft, with slip, and hydrating. As our k-beauty expert, could you please give me a couple of recommendations to try? Your thinking on ingredients such as denat. alcohol is the same as my own, so I’m sure that I will love anything you recommend. Please help!

I use Klairs Supple Preparation Facial Toner. Try it! It’s K-beauty and is the best toner i’ve ever used and ticks all the boxes you want!

Hi Ashley, thank you so much for the recommendation! I’m probably going to try a few, so any other suggestions will be most welcome. But thank you so much – I am going to go look it up right now!

I don’t typically like lip-shaped things, but I think that little pouch is so cute!

Lipstick Queen’s shade shifters are among my all-time favorite lip products. There are a few shades available on the Costco website right now for only $13 each, including Old Flame. I also recommend Highway 66, which is a neat cactus green that turns red-orange.

Does anyone know how the Butter London lip oil compares to the Vasanti oil gloss that was in this month’s Ipsy?
