Allure Beauty Box November 2019 Review

A handy booklet has all the product info inside.

Tarte Color Splash Lipstick in 'High Dive', 0.12 oz - Full Size! Retail Value $21.00 (shades will vary)

Will there ever be a day when I don't get really excited about a full-size tube of lipstick? Probably not. This color is insane! I am over the moon with it. The deep red-berry shade is fall perfection, and, frankly, makes me feel like a total badass. This lippy has a nice sheen and is very buildable, so you can do a sheer look with one swipe, or go full-on drama with more.

I am obsessed.

belif Hungarian Water Essence, 10 ml - Estimated Value $5.60 (Buy 75 ml for $42.00)

Essences are often liquid and feel like water, so I was curious when this felt more like a serum. This makes it so much easier to apply! I like to use a step like this after a toner but before a serum. It adds extra moisture to my skin and helps cut down on expensive serum usage since it helps it spread and absorb better. My skin felt really cooled down after applying this. It was a nice sensation! I also tried this on my dry sleepy face in the morning and liked the instant life that it added.

Raeka Illuminating Turmeric Polish, 15 ml - Estimated Value $4.80 (Buy 100 ml for $32.00)

Turmeric is a great anti-inflammatory ingredient, so if you have issues with redness (I do!) it is a great addition to your routine. It also contains crushed walnut shells and reminded me more than a little of St. Ives. I find abrasives like this to be a little hard to my skin, and prefer smaller particulates. Will loves super scrubby scrubs though, so this will go to him.

Curology Cleanser, 15 ml and Curology Trial Offer (up to $19.95 value)

I am a Curology enthusiast, though I prefer their custom formula more than the cleanser or moisturizers. This box arrived with a sample of the cleanser and a link to get a free Curology trial, something I HIGHLY recommend. Basically, you sign up, fill out a questionnaire regarding your skin and skin concerns, submit photos of your face, and an actual dermatologist looks them over and builds a custom formula for you. It arrives monthly or bi-monthly, according to your schedule. This has been much cheaper than seeing a local dermatologist to get my hands on the RX strength anti-aging superhero that is tretinoin. I also love that there are monthly check-ins so my doctor can adjust my formula as needed.

e.l.f. Gentle Peeling Exfoliant, 90 ml - Full Size! Retail Value $10.00

Hmm. At the risk of coming off snobby (I promise this is not my intention!) I don't love seeing the e.l.f. brand in this box. This is half because I associate this sub with higher-end brands, and the rest is that if I wanted to try out this product, I could easily go buy myself the full size for $10. It isn't a high-risk expense that a skincare item with a $60-90 price tag would be. That is the kind of stuff I (personally) enjoy most in subscription boxes. Ok, all those feelings aside, this exfoliant was fine. It is one of those peeling types that pills up. I am skeptical of these because you can test them on any surface and if you rub the cream will pill. I am sure when used on skin it does grab up some dead skin and dirt and grime, I am just not convinced it is better than a traditional exfoliant. It had a nice scent and contained fruit extracts as well.

Verdict: This Allure box has a total value of around $63.40, which is a nice value for a $15 box. I decided to leave the Curology trial value out of this calculation since you might not use it if you aren't interested or already subscribe, but if you partake (and you should!), it does add about $20 to your value total. I thought this was a good box, even if I didn't love everything. The cloud cream and lipstick were certainly the standouts for me. Together, they account for $43 of the boxes value and alone I would have paid $15 for them both, so I already felt the box was a win, 2 items in. I also really liked the belif essence. The e.l.f. exfoliator was not something I enjoyed, but I always appreciate full-size items, and this month had 2, which is awesome for such an inexpensive box.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I received Miami Vice… a pretty red. But I could never pull it off.

Same….wish I got a darker color

I subscribe directly from Allure and I am pretty happy with the variation this month. I received: Tarte in Yatching (slightly lighter than High Dive), ELF Putty Primer, Bliss Peel, Curology cleanser, Vichy peel mask (Variation within Vichy products), and Freeze 24/7 eye cream.

Lisa Eldridge just released a brand new video with dark lipstick tutorial for those who want to try dark colors but scared like myself. She has her own line of lipsticks, so she is using her products in her video, but she uses dark berry color and dark brown color and show us how to wear them as a stain and also mix with another color. I have learned a lot about makeup from her videos as I was kid of helpless at my ripe age, lol.

I got this same box and I am happy with it.

My box arrived today (Saturday)…and I’m happy with everything but the lip color, and with all the variants possible, I’ll take that! lol I got:

Tarte lipstick in Surf’s Up (the only bummer, I wanted a darker blue-based shade, and this is light terra cotta-orangey-rose, no bueno for a reddish complexion)

Bliss Peel Pads
Elf Putty Primer
PTR Cloud Cream
Freeze 24 Eye Cream
Curology Cleanser

I definitely feel I got my money’s worth! : )

I got the exact same box, even the lip color in Surfs Up! I feel like I really lucked out, that lip color is perfect for me! I wanted the Freeze eye cream and those Bliss pads, too, so I’m very pleased. Best Allure box in a long time!

I love my box! Vichy charcoal mask, tarte in winterberry, curology, elf primer, bliss peel pads & freeze 24/7! The freeze is my fav eye cream and the tarte is the perfect shade for me!

Reply ButtonReply

Jen

I got tarte in tachting, peel pads, elf primer, eye freeze, Vichy glow peel mask and cureology..

Reply ButtonReply

carrie

Same! I thought I was getting the Roth item since I subscribe through Amazon but I got the Vichy.

Jacki

I received my box from amazon only 5 days after ordering. I’m very happy with it. It is disappointing I can’t wear brown lipstick since I love the formula

ELF primer, PTR cloud cream, BLISS peel pads, Curology cleanser, Freeze 24/7, Tarte Boardwalk

I haven’t even received a shipping notification yet. Allure usually ships on the same day my Birchbox does, oddly, but no news yet and I’ve already received Birchbox. I hope I get this red lipstick. I have this fear that they are fulfilling boxes with the best colors first and I’ll be stuck with some nude.

Reply ButtonReply

Pink5

I don’t always get a shipping notification either. You could try calling customer service or checking on line.

I just got mine today, although the shipping notification I did get indicated that mine arrived yesterday, even though I thought Veteran’s Day was a postal holiday.

Wish I had checked the mailbox anyways. It was blasted cold last night.

This is the same box I got.

I’ve tried the Water Cloud moisturizer before and like it.

I wasn’t terribly excited about either E.L.F. product, but and exfoliator beats a primer for me.

Happy to get the lipstick; I couldn’t find that shade anywhere else.

Kristin

Got my box today, love it.
Tarte in Berry Mojito
ELF Putty
Bliss Peel
Curology cleanser
Vichy mud mask
Freeze 24/7 eye cream

Reply ButtonReply

Amanda

I got the same as you and love it. I had a feeling all the lipsticks were going to be dark so very happy with the berry color. I really wanted the peel pads and very excited for the putty primer.

Reply ButtonReply

Annie

Got the exact same box
Happy with the lipstick shade and that I got the eye cream which I really wanted. Really would have preferred the Belif water as I like that brand but overall I’m satisfied with this month

SunnyT

This is the same box I received, but the color Miami Vice for my Tarte lipstick. It’s a cool tone red, which is more wearable then I expected!
Was happy to receive it!

Reply ButtonReply

Jen

It sucks that they included a trial to a service that isn’t all inclusive. Curology is not available in Louisiana either.

Reply ButtonReply

Rachel M.

I got the surf’s up color also in the tarte lipstick which is perfect for my weird peachy olive skin tone! I don’t use primer so I’ll gift the ELF. I’ll use everything else in the box for sure!

Reply ButtonReply

Linda

I have no use for a brown lipstick or a dark berry one (I like pink and red lipstick). I received the e.l.f. primer putty, Curology cleanser, PTR cloud cream, the 24/7 freeze item, Bliss glycolic pads, and the lipstick. I’m happy with everything except the lipstick

I was going to subscribe through Amazon to get November’s box but it says my subscription will start on December 9, are they sold out for November? Does anyone know if that’s usual for Amazon to start you off till the following month?

Reply ButtonReply

Melissa

I just went to try to subscribe through Amazon… for me, it looks like it says that the subscription will renew on December 9th, which I assume means they’d charge me today for November’s box and then again in 30 days for the next? I’m really not sure I want November’s… the major draw was the lipstick, but the brown shade that seems to be in the Amazon variation just isn’t speaking to me.

Reply ButtonReply

Alice

Oh ok, thank you Melissa! That makes sense😀

zoee

I got the Boardwalk lipstick. Didn’t open it. Was hoping for the High Dive. Anyone want to trade ?

Reply ButtonReply

Lauren

I got a shade called Yachting if you’d want to trade!

Reply ButtonReply

Denise Atkinson

Last years November box was the all mask one so I think it’s a skincare heavy month with them, but this one is definitely better in my opinion. I cant wait to get mine

Reply ButtonReply

Jamey

Wow..really excited about this one!! Great mix of things I’d like to try out !!!

Will everyone get the curelogy?! I’m in Indiana and it wont allow me to use their service or order their products (believe me, I’ve TRIED) so I’m REALLY excited to try out the cleanser…will it be for everyone?!

Thanks 🙂

Pink5

I’m in Michigan and got it, but haven’t checked to see if it’s available to me.
I’m not really interested in a mail order only system.

Reply ButtonReply

Pink5

It is available.

Redhed36

I’m in Indiana as well and tried getting it. I think it’s in every box. I ordered through Amazon and others who did recieved it. Excited for my son to try it.

Rachel

So I was on the fence about getting the November box because I have other subs I am trying and I felt like I have more than I need but I want to try the tarte lipstick formula. I decided to email them and skip November which they confirmed. I checked my bank account and they charged me for November. I’m actually ok with it as long as they send me the November box. In the future how do I go about skipping a month without completely cancelling?

Reply ButtonReply

SBR

I have called to skip with no problems! I have skipped 3 months since last November with no issues! I have actually called to confirm my box would start back up as I wanted 🤪

Reply ButtonReply

Pam

Does Allure have any discounts for Black Friday? Thanks!

Reply ButtonReply

Denise

oh i am getting mine from amazon also, but i just re subbed through them, and i would be over the moon happy with the primer and freeze eye cream. ughhh if anyone wants to trade those two items, let me know and ill let you know what i get in my box as soon as i get it. its on the way. id definitely trade my ptr for one of them !!

I’m happy to get a full size drugstore brand in a box. Unlike most of what I try in boxes, if I love something from E.L.F. I can buy it again without feeling duped. So many say if you wanted to try it for $10 you would have already, but you didn’t. That’s the point of samples. How would you ever know that a $10 brand is great because you keep walking past it? Then you fall in love with something that’s $78 and still don’t know that you would like the $10 thing? Or maybe you try some cheap stuff and it reminds you that it’s worth it for you to splurge.

I’m moving more and more towards drugstore brands for everything because the formulas and packaging keep getting better and better. I don’t feel posh dumping out my wallet for makeup anymore, I just feel cheated. It’s all made of the same stuff in the same places, for the most part. I use affordable Korean skincare mostly now. I Heart Revolution dupes the colors I want. Wet n Wild makes the most affordable holo topper (nail polish) and you can get it at every Walmart. (It’s a mermaid something.)

Don’t be a sucker. Save your money. Be glad to try affordable brands.

Reply ButtonReply

Alice R

Yes indeed! The K skincare is definitely value priced and is lovely. I’ve lived on drugstore brands most all my life.

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

I think my thoughts on this stem from the box it arrived in, which is more of a higher-end brand box and I don’t think it was a good fit for my expectations of the box. I don’t buy e.l.f. products because I generally don’t like them and I don’t find them effective. While I am not shelling out loads of money for Sunday Riley or other similar brands regularly, I don’t mind spending a little more on brands that feel more trustworthy to me and feel like at least a little bit of a splurge. Skincare and makeup falls into a hobby category for me as well as (mostly) necessity, so I love investing in products that speak to me on multiple levels, especially when it comes with the fun of browsing Sephora for way too long! If I am going to go more affordable, it is absolutely going to be a brand like The Ordinaries or a Korean brand because I am obsessed with K-beauty too!

Reply ButtonReply

Emilia

Amen! I read ingredients first thing. I know the basics of dermatology. I know how marketing works (hype it up, people!). I refuse to pay for the name in cosmetic industry. I’ve never noticed any difference between a $10 and $500 cream. Skin is a PROTECTIVE barrier designed to keep stuff OUT. And nothing can reverse, delay or cancel aging. My favourite cream is Avon with SPF 50. Best oil I’ve ever found is wheat germ, costs $1 for 25 ml, I buy it from Russia. IOPE CICA cream is good for night. And I love ELF with all my heart.

I love pretty packaging as much as a girl next door, and I buy a lot of pretty makeup items because I collect them. But I would never assume that their formula is 100 times superior to a drugstore brand.

Reply ButtonReply

Dootsie Bug

I’m no snob either (love ELF!) but it doesn’t make sense in this box. I also don’t love that it’s all skincare. TWO moisturizers, TWO exfoliants and a cleanser? And I could never pull off that lipstick in a billion years. I skipped this box and I’m so glad!

Reply ButtonReply

tammy g.

i love this box ..but that tarte lipstick looks to dark for me, hope I get a lighter shade..

Reply ButtonReply

Amy S

Me too — but this looks like the sort of color that would be perfect if only a few shades lighter. I was thinking it might work if blotted almost completely away…

Reply ButtonReply

Flora

Just top it with one of those gazillion “nudes” they send in subs 😉

Jacki

Has anyone received November from Amazon? What did you get?

Reply ButtonReply

Jamie

Mine had the Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Cream, Bliss That’s Incredi-peel pads (pack of 5), Freeze 24/7 Anti-Aging Eye Serum, E.L.F. Poreless Putty Primer, Curology Cleanser, and the Tarte Color Splash Lipstick in the color Boardwalk, which is very dark, but overall I was pretty pleased with the variation. The eye serum is half of the full size, so I believe it’s worth $57.50 just for that one sample.

Reply ButtonReply

MJ

Hellox my Amazon box was the same, except my lipstick came in Ocean Dive! It’s a beautiful bright pink. Can’t wait to wear it out.

mandi

Thanks, my Amazon box should be here tomorrow. That Boardwalk color looks terrible in the pics I saw and it seems way too brown and unflattering for most skintones. I think the one in the pic looks great and I’m disappointed it probably won’t be in our box.

Nat

Received the same box through Amazon. Wish lipstick was different color. That brown is so not me

Charlotte

Thanks! I want to try the cloud cream and eye serum, so that sounds good to me. I’m not sure about the Boardwalk color, but I don’t own any brown lippies, so at least it will be something new.

Jana

We are Amazon box twins! I love this box! I will try everything – even the lipstick. The formula looks really nice. If I could get a peel in every box I’d be over the moon. Excited to try the primer and eye serum. I think this box is a great value.

Kenley

Does everyone get the same box from Amazon?

Jacki

That sounds amazing! The brown lipstick will need a new home, but the rest are perfect for me

Liz

Thank you for sharing. I subscribe through Amazon, so I am hoping I get this box. The shade Boardwalk looks like a darkish-brown. I don’t know that I’ll be a huge fan but I’ll give it a try! Maybe blot it and add some nude lipgloss on top.

Shawna

Cool, that variation sounds good to me! Really want the Cloud cream and eye serum. Boardwalk is brown, but I’ve actually been liking brown nudes lately so I can deal with it.

Jacki

Thanks! I’m going to restart my Amazon subscription

Redhed36

I am interested as well. Mine should be delivered hopefully Saturday.

disneyjoy1970

I really hope I receive the Elf Putty Primer, instead of the peel. Also, that lip color is way too dark for my liking… I hope to receive a pink nude shade. It’s still a nice box. The Peter Thomas Roth item is such great quality.
