Wicked Good Perfume "Witches Brew" Review October 2019

Let me just say that I am not a huge perfume lover; I have found maybe one or two scents over the years that I could handle, but the rest gave me headaches. When I received a roller of this brand in a recent Ecocentric Mom box and discovered that they had a monthly subscription, I knew I had to try more of their scents! In addition to being incredibly unique, these handcrafted fragrances are formulated without phthalates, parabens + petroleum. They use sustainable ingredients that are responsibly sourced and they are vegan and cruelty-free.

I received this welcome card in my box in which the curator shares a little about the brand. It's even signed with a handwritten note. I love those little touches!

This month's theme is a fun one, very fitting for October: Witches Brew! On one side this card lists the products, the scents they contain and their retail value while the back has some information about their box review contest.

Dragon's Blood Solid Perfume - Listed Retail Value $16.00

Our first product is this solid perfume which is a mix of amber, myrrh, sandalwood, and patchouli. I picked up on the musky scent of myrrh first that blended with the fresh sandalwood to create a pretty heady scent that faded into a powdery patchouli scent at the end. I was amazed that I could really smell each of the scents listed, although the amber was the least notable to me.  The solid perfume was easy to apply leaving no residue on my skin and just a light air of fragrance. I don't know if I've ever received a solid perfume before, but their small size and solid form make them ideal for traveling!

Deadly Nightshade Bath + Body Oil, 1 oz. - Listed Retail Value $16.00

This month we received a bath and body product in the form of this oil. I really love the packaging with the clean black and white labels and fun script. This bottle is especially exciting thanks to those bright red flowers inside. It is a blend of wild goji berries, gardenia, amber, and musk. This oil is also so incredibly versatile. You can add some to your bath, use it to moisturize after a shower, use it for a massage, or even as a hot oil hair and scalp treatment! This is made with several different oils including sweet almond and jojoba as well as cocoa butter and shea butter to provide 24 hours of hydration. It absorbs fairly well and leaves behind a light sweet scent although when you first try it you are hit with a vibrant goji berry scent. This is a nice product that will look so pretty sitting on my bathroom shelf!

Frog's Breath Perfume Oil Roller, 10 ml - Listed Retail Value $18.00

Our roller this month smells much better than its name. This is a blend of white santal, cedarwood, and cannabis in grapeseed oil and it has a slightly more masculine profile at first from the woodsy cedarwood. It fades to what I imagine to be the white santal which is actually a type of sandalwood and I'm not sure I am able to pick up much of the cannabis.  This roller bottle is great for throwing in your purse for scent touch-ups any time! Since they recommend mixing and matching scents I paired it with the Dragon's Blood and I thought they worked nicely together.

Worm's Wort Perfume Absolute, 1 oz. - Listed Retail Value $29.00

This last item was my favorite this month. This perfume spray is a mix of black chamomile, tea leaves, wild ivy, and coconut water. Since it is formulated with organic cane alcohol that is what you are first hit with, but it quickly fades to reveal this pleasant scent. This one is a bit herbal and earthy with a slightly sweet endnote that has a hint of cotton to it. It smells clean and fresh and is definitely a unique fragrance.

Verdict: I love how fun and nicely curated this month's Wicked Good Perfume box was! All of the scent names certainly fit into the theme of Witches Brew and the packaging was minimal, clean, and fitting with the sprawling script for each of the product names. The fragrance blends themselves were unique and smelled clean, fresh, and authentic. I also thought that the mix of scents was very well rounded and will suffice to suit most fragrance preferences. The total listed retail value comes to $79.00 which is pretty great for a $25.00 (including free shipping) box of handcrafted fragrance products! I'm really looking forward to seeing what they have in store for next month!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

Oh hey, another indie perfume box! That’s legit exciting. The only one I’ve seen to this point is Sucreabeille’s monthly subscription box at $40 a month. This is a much lower price point, although their scent catalog doesn’t really grab me. Man, if Sixteen92 or Hexennacht did a monthly subscription thing, that would certainly be the end of my wallet!

I also feel like throwing out there as someone deep into the world of indie perfumes, I’d say most of them are vegan and parabens-free. (Usually the non-vegan ones are specially marked as containing real honey or butter extracts.)

I bought this box the day you asked if it should be reviewed and I’m obsessed. I loved all the smells, it’s like it was made for me. I’m excited for next month.

I also bought this box the day you asked “should we review it? “. I rarely do perfumes because I, almost without exception, get a wicked migraine headache from them.
But this box is WONDERFUL. Everything smells great and not one headache, so far.

How long did it take them to ship your box , if you don’t mind me asking? Maybe my bad experience was just a fluke.

I received my box, literally within just a few days of ordering. Not even a week, for sure.

Brandi D.

Oh yay! I’m glad you enjoyed it too! 🙂

Nice review, and you sold me on it! I’m very impressed that I put my order in today and received notification that it has been shipped, less than an hour later!

Thank you for sharing!
I’m very interested in this sub. What is the throw of the scents and how long did you feel they lasted?

Brandi D.

The perfume spray and the roller are both very light scents that you can’t notice unless you are right up next to me while the solid perfume is a stronger scent that you can smell as I walk past someone. The roller was the one that probably faded the quickest (maybe only 2 hours or so?) while the others lasted a few hours although the solid perfume seemed to decrease gradually as I wore it. I hope that helps! 🙂

Brandi – Did these scents give you a headache?

Mouthycole

I also did not have any headaches from these scents. And that is a very rare thing for me and perfume.

Brandi D.

They did not! Sorry I should have made that more clear! 🙂

No apologies required. That’s pretty exciting! Thanks for your reply.

I am glad your experience was better than mine with them. I bought the box on Oct 7. It got lost and I didn’t get it until the 24th. They said they sent a new one but the the box was stamped the 7th my dragons blood was open and had melted , the bath oil had a burnt smell and didn’t look like yours. Luckily I was able to clean up the frogs breath and the spray they smell lovely. I would have bought more in those scents but don’t tell me your sending a new box because the first ones lost then never send it and a week later the original arrives looking like it was kicked the entire way. I cancelled. 🙁

Oh no! I’m sorry to hear that! 🙁 Maybe the second box will show up looking better?

I never received a notification that they sent a second box and that’s been almost 2 weeks. The original box was ordered the day you guys asked if you should review it and mailed the 7th. I didn’t get it until the 24th . They were supposed to send a replacement the day after I contacted them about the box but they never did. A few days later the tracking on this one started moving again.
