VetPet Box (Multi-Cat Version) November 2019 Review

Every month, VetPet Box sends toys, supplies, and wellness items:

I did not receive an information card this month. There is also always educational material in a full-color, fold-out brochure that is sturdy enough for storage and later reference. There is a different theme every month (this material is considered to be one of the benefits of paying for the subscription, so it is not reproduced here). This month was about Halloween safety.

Pet House Candle in Pumpkin Spice - Retail Value $21.95

This smells really good and will be put to good use in our house. Angus is currently on a kind of high dose of prednisolone for his inflammatory bowel disease and he drinks a lot of water and pees a lot and I don't like having a house that smells like cat pee. These candles have cotton wicks and are made from soy wax and the included fragrances are non-toxic.

Catit Creamy Salmon Treats (2.5 oz) - Retail Value $2.99

Whenever I get lickable treats like this in a subscription box, I know I will get some good pictures. My cats really like these (well, Monkey is a treat snob and prefers a different brand, but Sneaky and Madison had a good time). I find that treats like this are kind of effective at preventing hairballs if given often, and they're also good if your cat doesn't drink much water.

Yeowww Jack-o-Lantern - Retail Value $9.95

Yeowww toys are some of the best ones out there. You can see below that Monkey played with this a lot, and Sneaky also expressed interest, and they are both senior kitties (Monkey is maybe 13 and Sneaky is 11). Madison (age 12) also had fun with it after the camera was off. For what it's worth, I caught Monkey playing with a Yeowww candy cane the other day that is probably at least a year old, so these have good long-term value as well.

Yeowww Butterfly - Retail Value $5.95 (currently on sale for $3.95)

This has the good Yeowww catnip but also an interesting textural element with the wings (they are a little crinkly). Several cats expressed interest in this as well, but I think Angus will probably have the most fun since it is very small and he likes to play with smaller toys.

Snack21 Wild Pacific Salmon Snacks - Retail Value $7.48

This was maybe the only thing in the box that wasn't a huge hit. It is dried meat and the pieces are kind of hard. Sneaky ate some of the smaller pieces but she didn't know what to do with the larger pieces. (To be fair, Sneaky doesn't understand the concept of chewing. She swallows everything whole.) It is a single-ingredient treat and otherwise seems to be of good quality if your cat likes this type of treat.

All for Paws Ping Pong Spider (x 2) - Retail Value $4.99 each ($9.98 total)

Angus likes these a lot but he was camera shy the day I took pictures because the neighbors are getting their deck rebuilt and the construction crew was making a lot of noise. These have ping pong ball bodies with rattles inside and are covered with fabric, plus they have dangly legs that have an unusual texture. Angus really likes the legs and I later found out that Sneaky does, too.

Angus liked the toys, but he was freaked out about some noises coming from outside.

Monkey was quite entertaining with jack-o-lantern toy.

Madison was interested in the treats, mostly.

She also liked the butterfly and the freeze-dried treats.

But my favorite part was all the facial expressions she made with the lickable treats. I swear, she can hear me getting one of these from anywhere in the house and by the time it's open, she's there, even if she was 100% asleep before I got it off the shelf.

Verdict: I calculated a total value of about $58.30 for the November VetPet Box for cats. This was a really good box for us as it addresses a need we have (pet odors) and even my senior cats got in on the toy action, which they rarely do. (Angus is the young one at age 3.) The Yeowww toys and lickable treats were probably the biggest hits with the kitties.
