Switch is a jewelry rental service that lets you try out designer jewelry without the commitment. You pick your favorite pieces and try them out for as long as you want with a relatively small monthly fee. This is a review of the 3 pieces at a time plan. Switch also offers the option to purchase jewelry pieces at a discounted member price. For every month that you’re a member, you get a $10 credit that you can use towards the purchase of a piece of jewelry at the special member price.

This is a review of the $69 Black Membership that includes 3 pieces a month.

Switch offers free Priority shipping via USPS (1-3 day expected arrival). Each package comes with a prepaid USPS return label, so you can leave your return for your mail carrier or drop it off at the post office if you’re the nervous type. Shipping is free both ways, and they just ask that you package it just as you received it to return to them. It’s important to save the mailer and packaging for your return.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Switch Subscription Box October 2019 Review

matte black box open box with first card displayed

Everything arrived in a super slick and very high-end looking black box. Inside, there were multiple info cards explaining all the deets about this subscription. All of these cards are really informative and helpful in explaining all the facets of this service. They cover care tips, return instructions, and even a guide if you fall head over heels in love with a piece, which... does... happen.

Let's see what I picked this month!

Marni Blue Resin Pendant Necklace – Retail Value $590.00, Member Price $445.00

There was something about this necklace that grabbed my eye! I think it might be the oversized pendant in combination with those rhinestone tassel strands? I also think that I gravitate towards massive statement pieces in the fall because I like to wear basic turtlenecks and I like the look of the two elements together.

Marni is one of those brands that always seems to have incredibly unique pieces in totally tactile shapes and finishes. You can't help but want to play with this thing! It also seems to be one of those pieces that is equally at home over a turtleneck or between the edges of a deep plunge evening gown.

I am like a super-chic Steve Jobs!

Agmes Sterling Silver Audrey Earrings – Retail Value $390.00, Member Price $350.00

This was another easy choice this month. I absolutely love sterling silver because it gets this beautiful patina over time, and these are that perfect balance between shiny and loved. I like that they are oversized and the extreme point at the bottom of the earrings gives them a little wicked edge. Though these look more than a little substantial, they are actually hollow, meaning your poor earlobes don't feel the weight of a heavy solid pendant all day. These have a beautiful amount of movement and would easily fall into that category of "classic" style pieces that will always be on-trend.

They are pretty much the perfect length, and look really substantial on my ears in the best way.

Bottega Veneta Two-Tone Resin Bracelet – Retail Value $395, Member Price $315

Apparently I was really feeling resin this month. This was my favorite rental this time, and it also has easily fallen into that "I will buy it if I win the lottery" category in my mind. The mint and taupe resins paired together make for a truly magical palette, and they are anchored by sterling silver with enamel accents and the brand's iconic basketweave pattern. I wore this alone but I loved it even more when stacked with other larger bangles. It does not have any sort of hinge or clasp opening, but slid over my hand perfectly. Be sure to pay attention to the listed dimensions of similar pieces on their pages, just to make sure they will fit! The Switch team is really great about including that type of useful info for each item.

You know I love to mix and match, and I love this trio together! The square resin bangle is vintage and the textile bangle is a custom piece by Sasha Handmade.

The Verdict: Gosh, Switch is so much fun. I have been enjoying these last two months of everyday sort of wear, but I do have a fancy-schmancy black-tie gala coming up this spring that I need to start brainstorming for jewelry-wise. I honestly might just wear a simple gown and let my jewelry choices steal the spotlight. The biggest risk with this subscription (for me!) is that I always want to buy something. At least I earn $10 credit each month I am a member, so when I finally do decide to treat myself, that should help a little. I loved each of my choices this month, but especially that bangle! I likely might not have really thought about that sort of style before, but being able to try it on makes me want to rent all the bold bangles! I am sure we will have another one (or two) to admire next month.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Pieces can get snatched up quickly, and the number of pieces they have per style varies. You may or may not see these pieces in their available inventory list – but you might just see something you like even more! This isn’t a “styled” subscription – meaning you can pick exactly what you want from the available list – it’s not selected for you based on an algorithm or your preferences.

Value Breakdown: In this shipment, I tried out $1375.00 of jewelry for $69 – which is about 5% of their retail value and a great deal if it works for your budget and needs. It’s pricier than Rocksbox (which offers mid-range designer jewelry) but less than Rent the Runway (which offers designer jewelry, accessories, and clothes, too).

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

The Switch Team

Hi Megan,

Hope you’re well! Thank you for the lovely review. It doesn’t look like you mentioned anything in your post but did our box arrive to you like that? If so, we’re so so sorry about that, that is far below our standards and should have never been sent.

While we do reuse our black Switch boxes, we do take them out of our rotation after a few uses.

We want the experience of luxury to be felt across also Switch touchpoints, including packaging. With that in mind, we’re sorry if that box arrived like that and we’re already working on higher quality packaging and filtering out overused boxes.

Best,
The Switch Team

Hey Switch team! I didn’t even give the box a second thought. I love any subscription that reuses packaging, and it didn’t bother me at all. 🙂

Hmmm, I’m not sure that I feel the pieces look like high-end designer pieces (400 bucks for average-looking sterling silver earrings is a bit much to swallow)…but they certainly look good on you.

They def. feel awesome in person. Pictures can only capture so much. The resin bangle is growing on me day by day and I already dread returning it.
