Sunday Riley offers a quarterly lifestyle subscription box curated by the editors of their blog, The Sunday Edit. In addition to great beauty and lifestyle items by popular brands, they always include a few Sunday Riley products and this time there are three with one being FULL-SIZE. Squeeee! Since we just received the last box in July, it was a surprise to get another so soon. We reached out to customer service and they told us that it ships every 2-3 months, but they "slightly compressed the schedule this year so that folks who received their first box in late February could still get to experience a full year of boxes." They should have a more definitive schedule for 2020, so stay tuned.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Sunday Riley Box Sleep Edition Review

I was so worried after not hearing a peep about Sunday Riley since June that it was disappearing. Then I saw the spoilers and rejoiced! The Fall box is here and has a theme of one of my favorite things: SLEEP! There's a nice little booklet that has a page dedicated to each of the nine items included this time around.

Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil, 15 mL - Retail Value $55.00

Gaaahhh I love this facial oil! Many know by now that I have quite the obsession with Blue Tansy mainly because of how wonderful it smells. It also has great properties for the skin like being anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal and redness reduction. Together with trans-retinol, avocado seed oil, and chia seed oil, this night treatment aims to reduce lines and help plump the skin so that it looks more youthful. Even though the deep blue color looks daunting, it absorbs into the skin clear after massaging and doesn't leave any hue behind. My face immediately feels hydrated and when I wake, super soft. Excited to see more of the long-term results!

Sunday Riley Slumber Party Deep Sleep Pillow Spray, 1.7 oz./50 mL - Listed Value $18.00

This pillow spray is exclusive to the box and made by SR to help you fall asleep faster. Even though I love pillow sprays, I don't use them enough to set the mood. I think this one may turn the tides for me. The deep blue glass bottle and golden pump are not something I'd want to hide away but feel that it brings something to my nightstand. A blend of lavender, tangerine, orange, and vetiver sets the stage for sleepy times and the fine mist that comes out of the pump doesn't soak my bedsheets.

First off- I simply love the little bubble pouch they put these two minis in. I've already reused it as a travel pouch for my daily supplements.

Sunday Riley Good Genes Glycolic Acid Treatment, 5 mL - Listed Value $15.00 (Buy 1 fl oz for $105.00)

Moving on- they've included a trial size of Good Genes Glycolic Acid treatment which has a thin, slippery lotion feel to it. It gives my skin sort of a glowy plumpness to it when absorbed and although I don't love the way it smells, it really brings something to the table.

Sunday Riley Auto Correct Brightening and Depuffing Eye Contour Cream, 3 mL - Listed Value $13.00 (Buy a full-size 0.5 fl oz for $65.00)

Auto Correct is another product we've received in a past box, only in a much larger size. The mini has quite a few doses though that should give an idea of if this will work for you. I've been going pretty hard on going out all this week, so using something that should brighten and depuff sounds like a good idea. This has a thicker consistency than the Good Genes and has almost a slight pearlesque finish to it (which does some of the brightening). It feels lovely around my delicate eye area as well.

Sunday Edit Sleep Edition Guide - Listed Value $15.00

The Sunday Edit team made one of these for the Travel box back in May as well and I have to say that I think they do a great job. Giving it a $15 value is a little much, but I do think there is a wealth of good info here and the design is really well done. It's a great workbook for when you can't sleep and has a ton to read so it makes me wistful for when I used to buy magazines a lot to pore over. The cover has a matte feel with holographic accents and a cute illustration that matched the sleep theme. Inside there are a lot of tips on how to get a good night's rest, an outline on the best Sunday Riley products for your night routine, hotels around the world that offer realizing vibes, a dream journal, and more.

Luna 48" x 72" Weighted Blanket, 5 lb weight - Listed Value $67.99

I was super pumped to see this item included since I've been wanting to try a weighted blanket for years. Since this particular blanket was made especially for the Sunday Riley Box, an exact match isn't available on the Luna site but here is a link to the size we are dealing with.

The size included is a "full" and more than covers me when I sleep, though of course doesn't lay across my entire queen bed. From what I gather, a lot of weighted blankets aren't necessarily designed to cover more than one person at a time and since I'm a single gal this is perfect for me. In the photo above, I had to have Andy hold the blanket up since I was a bit too short. For reference, he's 6'1" and my blanket is about an inch or so larger than the standard 48 x 72" sizing. The outer shell is 100% cotton and it's filled with glass beads distributed evenly into smaller areas to weight it with polyester wadding for filling. It seems like the main difference in this one compared to the offerings on their site is that the cotton is not labeled as organic on this one and is only 5 lbs as compared to the 12 or 15 lbs offered on the site. The suggested weight is roughly 10% of your body weight but I found this 5 pounder to be extremely cozy and it made me feel secure. I used it on top of my down duvet and fell asleep pretty quickly. The included booklet suggests "easing in" by only covering half of your body for 5-7 nights but I went full-coverage right away. The edges of the grey blanket also have 8 loops that can allow it to be securely fastened to a cover if you so choose to get one.

Sachajuan Overnight Hair Repair, 100 mL - Retail Value $50.00

I've been reviewing a lot of hair care this month so I added this one into the queue to see how it worked out. Keeping with the theme, this is an overnight hair repair mask which I can't say I've ever used before. The bottle and pump are really nice and it has a super simple label which makes sense coming some Sweden whom I regard as having excellent aesthetics. This did add an extra step to my nighttime routine since I had to wash my hair at night which I never do and then add to my damp hair like I would a leave-in conditioner. I was afraid my hair would be goopy and it'd mess up my sheets but surprisingly the opaque cream was really light and it felt almost like I had nothing in my hair at all. I don't usually go to bed with wet hair either since it always dries in a strange way that isn't appealing but of course I had to take one for the team with this one. I woke up with slightly misshapen hair, but it did feel well-conditioned and soft. The box says that you CAN rinse it out if you want, but it's not necessary. Since I was already running late for work, I just tried to reshape my hair and go with it in. I don't think this product changed my life, but it may be a nice treatment once in a while when I have extra time in the evening.

Slipsilk Sleep Mask in Pink, - Retail Value $50.00

I've purchased and received many sleep masks in my day since I need complete darkness to sleep (especially while traveling). This one has to be the creme de la creme. It's made with the highest grade (6A) long fiber pure mulberry silk and is generously padded for ultimate comfort. It didn't feel too tight around my head and the soft silk wasn't harsh or irritating in the least to my eyelids while wearing. It's like wrapping a cloud around your face before sleep. The mask Sunday Riley includes came in a pale pink which isn't really my preferred color, but also- I'm not really going to be leaving the house in it. I've decided to keep this in the nice box next to my bed and use my other masks to travel with since this one just seems so special.

White Navajo 3-Inch Dream Catcher by Mae Stone - Retail Value $16.99 (Listed Value $21.99)

When I first saw that a dream catcher was included in this sleep box, I gave a bit of a side-eye until I saw that is certified authentic and made by Native Americans. This particular beautifully crafted one was handmade in New Mexico by Navajo artist Mae Stone and her family. The hoop is 3 inches in diameter, is wrapped in incredibly soft white leather and adorned with dyed white feathers and white glass beads. I've never seen an all-white dream catcher before and think it's just gorgeous. To use this correctly, it's meant to be put at the head of your bed, or near a window so that it can catch any bad dreams that may try to come to you in its web. The good dreams will make it through the center hole and rest in the feathers before evaporating when the sun comes up. Any leftover bad dreams are trapped and burned up by the prayer beads. That sounds fantastic to me.

Verdict: I really quite liked this installment of the Sunday Riley Box due to the theme and high-end items. I was most excited for the weighted blanket since I'd been wanting to try it and am happy with the size of it. I'll probably use it on my couch to make me feel extra cozy this fall while watching movies. I also really enjoyed the luxurious sleep mask and the deluxe size Luna night oil. Even though this box might seem a little lighter than past ones, I think the curation is still dynamite and they included high price points and brands I want to try. I can also appreciate that they made sure to include an authentic dreamcatcher handmade by native people which has beautiful construction. All in all this box has a retail value of $300.98 which is three times the cost!

About time to start wondering when the next box is coming out, has anyone heard anything? The Love box last year was reviewed here on February 13. I thought SR was supposed to come out with more of a schedule but their site still says “quarterish” and “as many as three” months between boxes. We’re coming up on three months.

My subscription renewal said January 9th for the longest time. It’s been updated to February 12. I’m hoping with the delay it will be something spectacular and not rushed. Fingers crossed!

Lynda

Mine also changed from January 7 to February 12

Loved this curated box. The mask and dream catcher are gorgeous. The blanket is twin sized – but does the trick.

Any idea how long this will be available?? I want it sooo bad but don’t have the money right now. Wondering how quick they sell out

Jessica

I got my box in the mail today and really love everything in it. I’m looking forward to trying the blanket tonight. It is perfect for one person and I will most likely use it as a lap blanket Too. Definitely not as flimsy as some of the others that I’ve seen in sub boxes. I was not too excited about the eye mask but it is super soft. The silk quality is amazing. Can’t wait to try out the hair treatment later tonight. The pillow spray smells nice and is not too strong and I love Luna oil. The dream catcher is really pretty. The value is a bit less than the previous boxes but I’m on the auto-renew program so for $85 I can’t really complain.

Can anyone tell me the cancellation policy on the subscription option? I have looked around on their site and haven’t been able to find it. I’d like to save the 10% but don’t want to be locked in if future spoilers/reviews don’t fit my needs.

Thanks in advance!

I received my box a few days ago and I love everything! The blanket is the perfect size for me. I don’t need anything heavy on me.

Reply ButtonReply

Jennifer

Can someone please make a listing for the blanket so I can list it? It won’t let me make one and I’ve tried multiple times😫

Reply ButtonReply

Del

I’m wondering how much it would cost to ship out a package over 5lbs which is also bigger than the box(sunday riley box) itself…is there something you do to save on shipping?? That is my only concern with swapping this😞

Reply ButtonReply

Rachael

I was able to Jennifer. I hope we can swap.

Reply ButtonReply

Jennifer

Thank you and I wasn’t expecting so many requests for this blanket, I got about 25 in the first couple hours. I’ll go through each one and watch for yours especially. Thank you so much😊

I truly love the curation put into Sunday Riley boxes, I can tell a lot of thought and care go into them and opening it is so much fun.

I received my box today and love the blanket and most of the other items! Marne, does the Sleep Spray smell similar to This Works Pillow Spray? That one has too strong of a lavender smell for me. I’d rather swap it, or gift it, if that’s what it smells like.

Reply ButtonReply

Jessica

In my opinion, it is a much milder than the this works spray which has a strong lavender smell. The slumber party spray dissipates pretty quickly and the lemon verbena seems more dominant than the lavender.

Reply ButtonReply

Cyndi

That sounds like it’s worth giving it a try then! Thanks so much for your reply, Jessica!

I got my box yesterday and tried the blanket last night. I have to say I really liked it. I was concerned as it didn’t meet the weight recommendations but honestly…I don’t want more weight. The pricing is weird to me based on the website products but that’s the only negative I’ve got.

Reply ButtonReply

NoRegrets

I just got my box and loved everything in it! The blanket is pretty weighty for me even at just 5 lbs, so I’m sure it’s a good way to decide if you want to sleep with the full recommended weight. I was most looking forward to the Slip mask, and it’s every bit as luxurious as I thought it would be. Looking forward to getting some zzzzs tonight after trick or treating with the kiddo!

Lorraine

I received my box and loved everything in it. However, one thing that bothers me is the retail value that Sunday Riley provided for the Luna blanket. How does it make sense for the price to be $68 for the one in the box when the price is $60 (or $50 at the sale price) for a 12 lb version with the same length? Not to mention that the one in the box is not label 100% organic cotton.

Awesome review, Marne! I wasn’t sure about purchasing, but I’m going to now. 🙂

This makes me want this box even more. I love everything in this box. Great review. I really appreciate these early reviews. Thanks MSA.

I haven’t cared for any of the SR products.

That Good Genes has an awful scent! Straight into donation.

I completely agree and l paid for a full size one, horrible smell

Where do you donate? I’ve looked around some on the Internet (I am in Rhode Island) and having a hard time finding a place. I have I’d like to donate make up, jewelry, clothes.

Before reading this review I was sure I didn’t need this box but now…I want it! Great review. Thanks.

Sammee

Aarrgghh…and I was so sure I wouldn’t be getting this box. Now this review is making me at least think about it some more. Interesting that you like the smell of the Luna Oil Marne. I’ve faithfully used it for a couple of years because it gives me great results, but it took a long while for me to get used to it. I think there are some people who never got used to the smell and gave up on the product altogether because of it. But anyways, great review!!

Oh wow- I thought blue tansy was a universally loved a smell! I cannot get enough of it.

You really need to try her Blue Moon face mask if you like her Luna oil and are a blue Tansy fan, like me. It is perfect to put on right before a nice hot bath.

OMG- I MUST try it! Thanks for the recommendation, h!!

I would like to swap a dream catcher for my daughter. She would love it.

dcmiess

Love that the dream catcher is authentic. Would have loved this box but the 100 dollar cost is a bit much. Maybe next time.

Reply ButtonReply

Victoria

Awesome review as always Marne, so genuine and honest. While dreamcatchers are not my thing, I really love that the one included in the box is authentic. Really glad they’ll be rolling out a better box schedule for 2020!

Reply ButtonReply

Marne Orenich

Right? I think this is the first dream catcher I’ve thought “oh dang, I need to hang this up” and am really glad it’s authentic.

Reply ButtonReply

Sheila C Murphy

I ordered this box after seeing it here. I also did a side eye at the dreamcatcher. I’m glad an effort was made to source an authentic object. I got the box bc I wanted the blanket and I want to try the products. I wish it was easier for me to visualize how big or small skincare items are before I order.

But really, I was wondering if it would be possible to have MSA purchase this box and not get it for free? Given the company’s past behavior with online reviews of their products I think this would be a better way to go. What do you think?

Reply ButtonReply

Liz Cadman

Thanks for the suggestion! In this case, and with a few other boxes, we’re able to get the boxes earlier than if we purchased them, and that helps us get the review up sooner. We always let readers know if we received a box for free, and we’ve heard from readers that the sooner we can get a review posted the better, as it helps with purchasing decisions.

I hope that makes sense!

Reply ButtonReply

Bethany

I enjoy the early reviews! It really does help if I haven’t already purchased, and if I have, I can either be more excited or know I don’t have to stalk the mailbox!

Jen

I absolutely love this box because it’s items I’ll actually use rather then a box full of items that just cost a lot!

I ordered. I need an oil and a blanket so this box makes financial sense. Wish the dreamcatcher was replaced by something different…maybe a pillowcase or a meditation subscription? But good box regardless.

Oops, not sure why this is a direct reply :p

Julie

I think you have the pillow spray and night oil flipped in your breakdown. Great review. Did not help ease my FOMO on this.

Marne Orenich

Ack! You’re so right, Julie. Thanks for catching that! I’ve updated. 🙂

Does the mask really block the light? It looks like since it’s pretty thick it might not form enough to your face and leave a space for light to sneak in around your nose…

Reply ButtonReply

Marne Orenich

It does! It’s really soft so it forms around the face nicely even though it’s padded.
