Smalls Cat Food Subscription – Should We Review It?

Smalls is a human grade cat food subscription box:

Healthy, real food recipes carefully formulated for your cat. Convenient delivery made easy for you.
Cats need a lot more than tasty food. We believe decisions about their health starts with you—the cat parents and cat nutrition experts. Because of you, we listen more, we learn more, and we get closer to what cats actually need AND want.
As close to nature as it comes, the high protein and moisture content is based on what your cat would eat if hunting in the wild. Expect higher energy at the home!
Benefits from Smalls:
Fresher breath and a less smelly litter box.
When cats eat right, their poo is healthier! More of the nutrients are digestible and absorbed, so less junk comes out the other end.
Shiny coat, fewer hairballs.
Your cat’s coat will improve with a balanced diet leading less shedding and fewer hairballs.
More energy for fun and games.
High protein and improved hydration promote strong bones and toned muscles, so cats can dash, leap and chase (or not).
Smalls offers three different recipes options:
Turkey, Beef, and Chicken. Smalls food is human grade, high protein, grain free, and high moisture.
How to store and serve Smalls:

Keep in freezer and defrost in fridge 24 hours before use. Store the food in the Smallsware container provided in your welcome kit. Lasts in fridge for 72 hours once opened.

Serve fresh from the fridge once or twice daily on its own or supplemented with dry food and water. If your cat’s health goals involve weight loss, our Cat Concierge can advise on a diet-specific portion plan.

The Box: Smalls

The Cost: Prices range from $7 to $30 per week depending on the plan.

Coupon: Save 25% off your first sampler pack (two week supply). No coupon code necessary, discount is automatic

The Products: Human grade cat food. Smalls has wet and dry food available to customize for your cat.

Roark, an 11 year old Siamese, with whom I live, has been dining on Smalls for at least 8 months now – and he has bulked up, but his poops are way cleaner. He seems great on this food and I would love to see a review of the Smalls subscription. Debating the bi weekly $72 charge.

I’ve seen lots of ads for this company and want to give it a try for my cat, but the price is more than what I usually spend. I would appreciate a review!

Augh. Sooo close! I’ve been looking for something like this, but my cats HATE PEAS. I swear, if there is one molecule from a pea in their food, they’ll reject it. Since all the formulations list peas, this one won’t work for me.

I initially read the headline as “Small Cat Food”.

Human grade? Does this mean I could nick a bit in a pinch?

Notably absent from their website: (1) an “about us” section; (2) the word “veterinarian”. The food is formulated by a “certified animal nutritionist” – certified by whom? The Science-Free Clinic for Holistic, Gluten-Free, Vegan Chanting and Ohm? Anyone can certify anyone for anything.

This seems like a niche offering by a nice couple with no veterinary education or support. By all means, give scientist cat-mama Ragan a chance to weigh in. I respect her opinion.

There are veterinary nutritionists but they are few and far between. (We are consulting with one at the University of Georgia vet school about Angus right now.)

Sneaky would be happy to give this a try, I am sure. She is the household BEEF TESTER.

I found their nutritionist’s name on their site and Googled her. She uses “Dr.” because she has a PhD and, while that’s not wrong (I do that sometimes!), she’s not a veterinarian. However, she does have a master’s degree in animal nutrition and, interestingly, she worked with one of the veterinary nutritionists who’s now at UGA who is doing Angus’s consultation. So she does have training and education in the field.

I agree, I’d love to hear Ragan’s take on it. I always learn so much from her reviews.
