Pet Treater October 2019 Box

Pet Treater
3.3 overall rating
18 Ratings | 9 Reviews

Pet Treater is a subscription box for dogs. Select from small (up to 20 pounds), medium (21-50 pounds), and large (51+ pounds), along with the $15 a month Dog Pack or $25 a month Deluxe Dog Pack options.

This review is for a large dog, $25 a month Deluxe Dog Pack box. My dog Nyx, a Rottweiler, is about 87 pounds right now. (Read Becca’s reviews of the Pet Treater Dog Pack to learn more about the $15/month option.)

My Subscription Addiction paid for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Pet Treater October 2019 Review

There’s not a traditional information card with this subscription so there’s not always a stated theme, but you will occasionally see some commonalities running throughout the box contents:

Pet Treater October 2019 Booklet Back

Pet Treater October 2019 Ad 1

Pet Treater October 2019 Ad 2

There isn’t an item list with this subscription (it is my understanding some items may vary), but you usually get a picture of a dog. There is sometimes some advertising material; this month included a promo code for one of the brands from the box.

Pet Treater October 2019 Spider

Petlou 15" Spider - Retail Value $17.99

Please take the retail value with a grain of salt because it comes from an Amazon third-party seller. However, this price is not out of line with other large plush dog toys. You'll see a lot of Petlou plushes in this box but that is fine by me as Nyx loves them. This one creeps me out a little. Nyx just likes trying to eat the fur on the head part.

Pet Treater October 2019 Floatie

Pet Zone Floatie (large) - Retail Value $18.99

This is supposed to float. Nyx doesn't like water but she does like chewing on leashes, and the things coming out of this toy are of the same type of material, so she is having fun with it nonetheless. (I would be very careful about letting your dog in a lake after all the toxic algae incidents this summer, though that may be less of a concern as the weather cools down.)

Pet Treater October 2019 Pork Beans

Lucky Dog Pork and Beans (5 oz) - Retail Value $5.99

This is a limited-edition treat according to the manufacturer, so if your dog likes it, stock up now. These contain pork, obviously, and barley as well as oats, and several kinds of sweetener (brown rice syrup, maple syrup) but no actual beans, which I think is kind of funny. At any rate, these are made in the USA and Prized Pet generally makes good quality treats (some of their other brands are OK for Nyx with her dietary issues).

Pet Treater October 2019 Boo Chews

Boo Chews

This is made for Pet Treater by The Pound Bakery. Most of the time now, at least one bag of treats will be custom for Pet Treater, and will be generally related to the box theme. The Pound Bakery is a specialty dog treat manufacturer located in the US. They use a USDA-approved facility and are based in Illinois. I like that Pet Treater is going this route and having new treats made rather than offering only closeout treats.

Pet Treater October 2019 Socks

Teddy the Dog Socks - Retail Value $12

Pet Treater usually has an item for dog owners in the box. This month, it is these socks, and it seems more relevant for a dog box than some of the past human items. These are a good size for me and I do like wearing novelty socks around the house to keep my feet warm in cooler weather and it will be nice to have a pair that's new rather than being threadbare and/or holey.

Pet Treater October 2019 Cookie 1

Pet Treater October 2019 Cookie 2

Emmy's Gourmet Canine Creations Eyeball Cookie - Estimated Value $1.35

Nearly every month, you will receive a cookie from Emmy's. They are usually seasonal and exclusive, so you can't find them on the Emmy's site, but Emmy's offers plenty of other shapes with the same formula if your dog ends up really liking them. I think this one is a lot of fun. I also like that they come with a full ingredients list since I have definitely received dog cookies from other subscription boxes with no label whatsoever.

Pet Treater October 2019 Kerchief

Kerchief

Pet Treater also usually includes a kerchief and I am super happy that this one is a real kerchief with finished edges. This one will hold up to a lot more wear and tear and also to washing compared to previous months. This one did fit Nyx's big Rottweiler neck, too, although she was not cooperating with me when I tried to take photos of her in it.

Here are some pictures of Nyx with the spider toy:

Verdict: There were 7 items in the October 2019 Pet Treater box, for an average value of about $3.57 each. I would say this was a typical month for Pet Treater. They are exploring more options in terms of producing some of their own products, collaborations with makers, and the like. Nyx loves the spider and she has shown interest in the other toy as well, and I was really happy to see a kerchief with finished edges this month. Also, the value for all the items I could find values for was $56.32 (not counting the Boo Chews or kerchief) which is more than twice the cost of the box.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you’ll receive a collection of pet-approved favorites as a welcome pack. After that, your pet will receive the same monthly shipment as other subscribers.

Value Breakdown: At $25 for the box, you are paying about $3.57 per item.

Does anyone get the box for medium size dog? Is there a big difference from that and the large?

Ragan

I have heard from at least some people in comments on past reviews that some of the same toys are in the small dog box, for what that’s worth.

Thank you. We have a medium and an extra large dog. The medium dog is the one who likes the toys. So trying to decide on size.
