Pearlesque Box September 2019 Review feat. Dirty Lamb

Each month you'll find an info card inside introducing the featured brand. This month it's Dirty Lamb, hailing from one of my favorite cities: Akron, OH. The opposite side of the info card details the included items, how to use them, their price, and a #pearltip.

Dirty Lamb Turkish Coffee Mask, 4 oz. - Retail Value $44.00

I'm already familiar with Dirty Lamb since discovering it in another natural beauty box back in April with this very product. After warming the outside of the jar under warm water it becomes a bit more liquified. The coffee grounds provide a pretty hefty grit that I think might be a little intense for my face, personally. In the past, I've wanted to sand off a layer of skin if possible, but I have softened and want gentler masks. This one also contains turmeric which is evident while it's on due to the light yellow tint you can see in between the grounds. I made quite the mess rinsing this off and the heavy oils made it trickier to rinse the grounds away. I was a little terrified since it left a large amount of oiliness on my face, but I used a tissue to finish the job and was sort of amazed at how soft my face felt. I'm on the fence about this mask. I definitely wouldn't use it more than once a week.

Dirty Lamb Coffee Scrub, 2 oz. - Retail Value $21.00

Now we're talking; a coffee scrub for the body (although it does say you can use it for the face too). My thighs and bum can handle a bit more gritty texture, so this scrub is a welcome addition to my shower and I really like the peppermint scent. Strangely to me, this has a finer grit to it than the facial mask and seems to be less chunky and sticks together a bit more. This will still make a giant mess in the tub, but there's no better place for that. This scrub takes care of what my friend Ash calls "chicken skin" and the oils leave soft skin behind after rinsing.

Dirty Lamb Ultra Day Serum, 1 oz. - Retail Value $44.00

I didn't realize Dirty Lamb offered serums until I pulled this one out of the box. Their day serum has a refreshing lemon scent and contains a simple blend of oils that includes rice bran, hemp seed, neem, sunflower seed, and sage. I was expecting something heavier with all of the oils, but it's quite light and a small amount absorbs easily into my skin. I can feel the hydration and smooth texture immediately.

Dirty Lamb Ultra Night Serum, 1 oz. - Retail Value $52.00

They also decided to include the nighttime counterpart. This overnight serum contains more ingredients than the day version and has a bit of a heavier viscosity that takes longer to seep into my skin. I can get on board though because I always like the idea of a product working as I sleep and it can take as long as it needs. The orange and lavender oils used really come out in the scent although aren't overpowering. This will come in handy with drier the months ahead.

Verdict: Pearlesque Box sent four products from indie brand Dirty Lamb which were nice but perhaps not my favorite. They made my skin feel nice, but there weren't any powerhouse ingredients or a standout product that felt special to me. As a person who has tried a myriad of serums and masks, I didn't find anything new, but for someone who's just getting into natural skincare, this may be a great gateway collection. The total retail value of this box is $161 which is quite good for a $39.95 box.

I liked this box! But it was my first from Pearlesque and am fairly new to natural skincare. I had terrible sensitive/ acne prone skin in the past so I wasn’t very willing to experiment with my face. I have since figured out how to keep it under control and have been branching out as far as skincare goes. I LOVED the face mask. It was very messy and gritty, but it took away the pesky blemish I was trying to heal for a few weeks. Awesome! Not crazy about night serum, but it works better if you use just a drop or two, no more. Maybe finish it up using on the body? Regardless, I have been using every product since I received the box, so it a win for me.

So glad to hear that it helped to get rid of your blemish! Thanks for weighing in on alternate serum uses as well!

Marne, I love coffee scrubs. Do you think the face mask one would be just as clever for the body? I can’t use them on the face. Also does the day serum have lavender? I can’t do that either. Thanks.

Hey Jody!

Yes- I totally think the facial mask would work on the body. It has a heftier grit which I’d prefer to use on tougher skin anyhow. Plus, warming it in the shower may work better too.
The day serum doesn’t have lavender, so you should be good! (The night serum does though)

I can’t even deal with the night serum, I got it in Vegan Cuts and it just does not work with my skin at all, like it doesn’t absorb but just sits there and makes me shiny or gets on my glasses if I am wearing my glasses. I’m trying it on my neck but it seems to be a better hair oil for me, honestly.

Using it as hair oil is a great save though!
