Meowbox October 2019 Review

Meowbox has a lot of exclusive toys that are usually pretty popular with my cats. From my perspective, it’s nice to see some things that don’t turn up in other cat subscription boxes:

The information card typically just gives a URL for finding out more information about the items in the box. The picture is adorable, as usual. This month had a Halloween theme.

Meowbox October 2019 Wand

Gone Batty Wand - Retail Value $10

This is a fun wand toy. It has not one but TWO dangly toys (on the same string). Angus was more interested in the stick this time, but hey, whatever works. Sneaky played with it "properly," as you can see below.

Meowbox October 2019 Treats

meowbox Turk or Treat Freeze Dried Turkey (20 g) - Retail Value $5

This is the month's treat. It is freeze dried turkey and is made in Canada (so perfectly safe to give to your kitties). It is a single ingredient treat so it may work for cats with food allergies or intolerances. Angus can't have it but the other three all seemed to enjoy it, even Monkey.

Meowbox October 2019 Eyes

Eyeball 2-Pack - Retail Value $6

These are hollow balls maybe close to the size of ping pong balls. Monkey and Angus are my cats who like batting toys like this around. Every now and then I will put a couple of ball toys in the bathtub and put Monkey in there (no water of course) and he just has the best time. Angus, meanwhile, already knocked at least one and possibly both of these under furniture.

Meowbox October 2019 Mummy 1 Meowbox October 2019 Mummy 2

Meow Mummy - Retail Value $6

This is actually two toys in one because there is a small catnip plush inside the outer coffin. I put some of the turkey inside the coffin and Sneaky figured out things super quickly. After the treat thing, Sneaky was this toy's biggest fan. I guess she thought she could find more in there, because there was some residue from the treats?

Meowbox October 2019 Ghost

The Empurrium Felt Cat Ghost Toy - Retail Value $5

This was a big winner for the month. It is a handmade felt toy that only has catnip (no stuffing) and several cats went wild for it, including Madison and Angus. You can see some photos below.

He loved the felt ghost toy, too.

He also loved the ghost toy -- he rolled all over it on the floor.

Meowbox October 2019 Monkey 1

Monkey likes when I put toys like this in the bathtub for him to bat around.

He also liked the ghost, although not quite the same way Angus and Madison did.

He tried to get in the box.

And he ate treats.

Meowbox October 2019 Sneaky 6

I put some treats in here and Sneaky got them out.

Sneaky played with the wand toy, too.

Verdict: I calculated a total value of $32 for October’s meowbox. I loved the theme and enjoyed how the toys were all different types, with some interactivity and puzzle elements as well as different textures (which is something my cats are very interested in). The treats were well-liked, also. I think the felt ghost was the biggest hit for the month, though.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? It may be too late for the October box, so your subscription would likely start with November, but you can buy some of the individual items from the meowbox store; just click the links in the item names.

Value Breakdown: At $22.95 for the subscription plus free shipping, you are paying approximately the following per item:

  • Mummy $4.30
  • Wand $7.17
  • Ghost $3.59
  • Eyes $4.30
  • Treats $3.59

I never thought about balls in the bathtub! File under “good ideas to try when I’m a widow, because hubby will surely object”. At the moment, they use the bathtub to disassemble the insects they find in his bathroom.

I don’t get this box as a courtesy to Meowbox. They’ll get carpal tunnel trying to fit all the cats’ names on the lid.

The mummy toy is a huge hit with our youngest (1.5 years old) cat! Several times a day, I have to search for it and put it back into the sarcophagus. In place of treats, we got a felt pumpkin (similar to the ghost but smaller) that several of our cats have been interested in. Balls in the bathtub is a hit over here, too. 🙂
