Luxor Premier October 2019 Review

Dean Davidson The Voyage Jewelry Bag – Retail Value $195.00

I am not a "vegan leather" fan, mainly because I really love actual leather and find that it lasts longer and lacks the scary plastic chemicals of the faux stuff. That being said, I do have to admit that this case is incredibly well made, weighty, and very pretty. Wearing it crossbody is laughable if you have any sort of bustline, even at the longest strap adjustment. It literally ended up holding up the bottom of one side of my bust when I tried! You could certainly remove all the custom organizers inside and use it over one shoulder, though. I decided to simply detach the strap and use it for jewelry storage inside my dresser and I totally plan on taking it next time I travel. It will be perfect for keeping my pieces safe and organized. Would I prefer a leather option? Absolutely. But as far as the quality of this faux material and the detail in the construction, I was impressed, especially compared to the majority of pleather items I have gotten in boxes.

Orrefors Carat Bud Vase – Retail Value $40.00

FYI: This vase is 3.6"W x 7.1"T.

Good to Know: This vase has a retail value of $80 on the Neiman Marcus page I found, though it is on sale for $40. The included info card lists its retail value at $40. I decided to also value this item as the $40 listed in the included card, though it is possible it technically has a higher retail value of $80.00.

This vase was so much larger and heavier than I expected. When I hear "bud vase", I think of a mini vase suitable for a single larger bud or a few sprigs of dainty flowers. This is big enough to hold quite a few stems easily or a small to medium arrangement and the faceted cut is really quite pretty, especially for winter tablescapes. The angles catch the light beautifully and it looks like it is made of glass.

Robyn Rhodes "the Marlowe Cuff" in Silver – Retail Value $57.00

I don't know that I love this cuff and a lot of that stems from the fact that I am not sure what it is made out of. It is thinner than I would prefer, though this does make it super flexible! I generally really love silver cuffs but this one is super shiny and a little more modern than I tend to wear. It also scratches quite easily. While this wasn't a winner for me, I am happy to pass it on to a friend with a more modern jewelry style.

It is a great style if you love a modern cuff.

LXMI Pure Nilotica Melt, 50 g – Retail Value $28.00

I seem to love this brand whenever I see it in a box and I think this stems from the gorgeous Dutch Wax printed packaging and the natural ingredient list. Nilotica is a shea subspecies and the balm in this tube is 100% pure, organic, and so over-the-top nourishing. It will be perfect for dry spots in the winter, though I have been using it mostly on my elbows, knees, and cuticles for now. I also tried it on the drier patches around my nose and over my eyebrows (they get dry too, sadly) and I love it! It is heavy-duty, so I recommend waiting until nighttime if you want to use it on your face and treating it more like an overnight spot mask.

LXMI Nilotica Goddess Glow in Rose Gold, 30 ml - Retail Value $42.00

A pink blush or highlighter shade with a gold shimmer always seems to work beautifully on my face. I immediately liked this cream because it gives so much radiance but it is hard to over-apply it, especially if you plan on wearing foundation and powder on top. It gives that lit-from-within look that I strive for and also improves my skin texture with its shea content. I actually used this on my entire face as a primer under my makeup one evening and my skin looked so dewy that I had multiple friends ask me what I was using to give me such a glow. It reminds me quite a bit of the cult-fave NARS Illuminator in 'Orgasm', though maybe with less pink.

I mostly rubbed the cream in for this shot, but not as much as I normally would on my face because I wanted you to be able to see it!

Green Market GP Co. Elderberry Woods Porcelain Splendor Candle, 12 oz - Retail Value $27.00

I could smell this candle as soon as I opened the box! It is a perfect blend of woods, florals, and a little crisp berry. This is basically a fall scent for people who dislike pumpkins because it gives the same festive vibes without being overly food-y. It is pretty big and arrived in a gold detailed porcelain holder that is really very cute. With a burn time of between 70-80 hours, I will enjoy this soy wax candle for a long time. The scent is incredibly strong and easily filled my living room and kitchen.

Green Market GP Co. Pumpkin Sage Archivist Candle, 7 oz - Retail Value $16.00

Pumpkin lovers weren't left out of this fall assortment. Though I am not a pumpkin fan, I have to admit that I am intrigued by this blend of pumpkin, vanilla, sage, and violet leaves. If you read any of my perfume reviews you know violet is my weakness! There were no real traces of nutmeg, cinnamon, or cloves to my nose, which made this fragrance a lot more viable in my home. Basically, it smells a lot more natural and botanical than a PSL, which is a good thing in my book. This scent is probably not for me, but I know exactly the person I will gift it to if I decide not to light it myself. I often find that the items in higher-end boxes make great gifts, which makes me feel a lot better when I don't totally love something.

Green Market GP Co. Fancy Feathers Matches, 50 matches - Retail Value $5.00

We actually go through a lot of long matches like this in my house because they are great for lighting mostly burned candles in taller vessels without adding burn marks and soot to your hands. I recently splurged on a super cute ceramic match striker and these matches will be very cute inside.

Verdict: This box has a retail value of about $410 which is a little over the $400 guaranteed value. I actually really loved the majority of this assortment, but with so much of the value taken up with the jewelry case, I have some mixed feelings. Would it have felt more expensive if it wasn't "vegan leather"? Yes, absolutely. Was it arguably well made and thoughtfully constructed? Also yes. I will certainly use it, but I have a hard time assigning such a high value to it. The cuff was another item that I wasn't really crazy about, though it was undeniably giftable. The skincare/makeup and candle items are the ones I was the most excited about and I loved the vase so much more than I expected to. All in all, there was value here, though I would have liked to have seen another high-value item to offset the chunk taken up by the case and bracelet. It did feel like a "treat yourself" sort of box, which is exactly what I would expect from a more expensive subscription and I did enjoy enjoying it!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes! Your first box should be this October edition.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

The bag was surprisingly well made but the size is definitely awkward for me -wish it was a tad bigger since my jewelry are rather big pieces. Again, the vase is really lovely just wish it was also a tad bigger. The other items are nice and appreciated.

So aside from not loving this box, my items arrived really gross. The candle had an actual curly black hair in it. I emailed Luxor, twice, and they have not replied. Very disappointed.

I prepaid for 1 year and am down to my last box. For me…. this Is the best one I’ve seen this past year..looks like they are trying to improve. However based on my experience I will not re-subscibe.

I have no issue with things not being leather. I have an issue with them being called vegan leather. Many of the ingredients in the materials they are using would NOT fit in the vegan category. Just because its not animal hide doesn’t mean it’s vegan. They should just say “not leather” or “man made materials” if they don’t want to admit the reality. Then the price point is laughable a well. I wouldn’t pay more than 50 bucks for something as basic as that bag if it isn’t real leather. If there were some sort of detail done by hand yes but that thing? Not a chance.

Completely agree about the “vegan” leather. There’s nothing vegan about cheap plastic. Petroleum chemicals are not better for us or the environment.

Laura

Vegan only means that animals weren’t exploited to make something, not that it’s organic or all natural or anything else. Personally, I’d rather carry a bag made of plastic than one made of skin.

Beth

Nice box but not a big fan of cuff bracelets at all. I also am shocked to see they have updated their price to 175 which is wild. I also would be mad to get 2 items for 100 even though they may or may not have a retail value of 200. It looks like they upped their game but at a wsy higher cost sadly.

The vase is really a nice size and good quality. The candles smells great, I’m enjoying them. I honestly like my OP boxes better for a luxe experience though.

This is a TJmaxx box on a Bergdorf budget. None of the items in this box are that bad but I wouldn’t buy these if I saw them at even the cost you get them in the box. Usually you can find one or two items and that will cover the cost of the box and the rest is icing or gifts but this is falling short of even that.

And can we all agree that there are more than two materials to make bags from?! There is canvas which I love and is sturdy, there are straw bags, there are acrylic bags… why do we have to only get leather or plastic attempts at leather?! Can we love animals and all agree vegan leather is just the worst.

No. 175??? No, no, no.

Elena

Despite some lovely candles and the cream, the value is not there. A vegan jewelry case with an RV of $195??? This is the kind of box you pay $75 for, not $175.

As a vegan I love faux leather items.

Jackie

That’s great, but I think she was referring more to it’s price of 195.

Lynn

I am not saying that all vegan leather is good, but the “scary chemicals” used in leather production are having a horrible effect on our environment and the health of the workers in that industry. Just something we all should be aware of in order to make informed decisions.

I see what you are saying, but it is much easier to source natural vegetable tanned leather or other “safer” leather options from companies because they view a natural process as a selling point. It seems a lot harder to figure out what goes into the manufacturing of “pleather”

I think I would cry if I spent $175.00 on this box. Not a single thing there to be excited about. As much as I adore just about ALL jewelry that “cuff” looks so boring.

Reply ButtonReply

Daria

Wow, this box is a real dud, IMHO. Cheap jewelry (not even real silver in a 175.00 box??) and a plastic case?

Erin

That vase screams “free gift with purchase” to me. Similar to when you go to a jewelry store like Jared’s and you get a set of champagne flutes if you spend at least $99 or something like that. The jewelry box is definitely an item you could find at TJ Maxx for under $50. I would be very upset if I spent $175 on this box.

The photos really don’t do it justice. As a former florist I can tell you I have absolutely no use for another vase however this one was so beautiful that I bought flowers this week just so I could use it.

I love the vase and the jewelry box is well made.

I have never paid full price for Luxor and have been generally pleased. (That’s a level beneath “thrilled” 🤣)
