Lip Monthly September 2019 Review

My package was a bit late, arriving at the beginning of October instead of during September, and it sounds like our bag is full of colors to help us with the summer to fall transition. Summer seemed to last a bit longer around here, so I think these will still apply! The theme is"Lips Don't Lie" and I love the cute card design!

Each month, Lip Monthly sends their products in a little soft fabric makeup bag which is just a bit bigger than an iPhone plus (although not quite big enough to fit one inside). This bag design is one of my favorites that they've sent. So bright and fun! I love the color and the adorable flower pattern.

ModelCo Lip Liner

This liner is a bit brown for me even though the tube looks like it should be pink. I couldn't find a color name listed anywhere on the packaging and I wasn't able to locate this one online so it's sort of a mystery liner! It does have a cool top that features a built-in sharpener which is very handy! It is a bit firmer, but still glides on fairly smoothly allowing me to line my lips with precision. It also did a nice job of containing the layer of lip gloss I applied over it.

Here I have it on over my entire lip and it looked a little better on than I anticipated since it almost matches my natural color.

Here it is with some clear gloss on top which is much better and actually makes the color look pretty natural on my lips.

Dirty Little Secret Lip Gloss in Rose Petal - Retail Value $14

The packaging for this brand is so cute! I love the polka dot tube and this color is very vibrant and fun! This gloss goes on smoothly and has a slightly sweet scent. It's a bit pink for me, but it's comfortable to wear and only slightly sticky. It doesn't last too long, but I don't usually expect glosses to have as much staying power as a lipstick anyway.

It's a pretty bright pink, but it isn't too much and I actually think I'd love this for a spring color.

Lip Monthly Liquid Lipstick in 03

This color is so wild! It's very much a neon pink and ridiculously bright. It goes on smoothly but has a slightly chemical smell and dries down pretty chalky. I'm not sure about the staying power because I had to get this off my lips because it just felt so sticky to me. This was not a good one for me.

I think it looks totally unnatural on me. It is just such an incredibly vibrant color that I don't see myself wearing even if the formula was more comfortable on my lips.

I tried to tone it down a bit with the DLS gloss over it, but instead, I think it intensified it even more!

Steve Laurant Matte Liquid Lipstick in Bestie - Retail Value $22

This lipstick was my favorite this month. Maybe it's because I'm in a fall mood, but I really love the deep color of this lipstick. It goes on incredibly smooth and wears almost like a stain with no stickiness, and none of that chalky dryness that matte lipsticks often have. This impressive formula was highly pigmented and long-lasting with a nice even wear-down.

Even though the color is a bit more dramatic than I normally like, I am loving this for when I'm in the mood for a bold look!

Here it is with a swipe of the DLS gloss over it. It adds just a hint of pink and a nice sheen.

Here they are swatched. In order from top to bottom, they are Lip Monthly, Dirty Little Secret, Steve Laurant, and ModelCo.

Verdict: I enjoyed the selections from Lip Monthly this month and I love the cute bag design! The only color I could have done without was probably the Lip Monthly lipstick, but I was pretty impressed with how ridiculously bright it was and how pigmented, even though it was not at all flattering for my skin tone. I'm loving the Steve Laurant color and it is giving me all the fall vibes so for the $12.95 cost of this subscription, I'm pretty happy!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, if you sign up now, you’ll get the October box as your first box. (Although, since my package was late, there is a chance it could be November's box, so you may want to double-check with customer service!)

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

Hi-dee

Man, was this sub ever the biggest let down and waste of money! I couldn’t wait for it to be done. Longest 3 months ever. They kept asking for my feedback but never did anything about it. They sent me Coral. I’ve never bought Coral for myself in my life. What a joke.

I cancelled my subscription after this months box. That model co bright pink, tacky liquid matte and dry lip pencil sent me straight to the website to cancel, swiftly!

Steve Laurent is another of those shadow beauty brands. Shopify website, no real steve behind the “brand” and despite describing themselves as “luxury” the contain info is a Gmail:(

Why do I keep pointing this out? Because a dollar store item isn’t worth the $12 of assigned or inflated value. And I worry if what is on the label is not in the tube. I don’t want to be putting led on my lips.

The lip monthly tube is the same. Dollar store private labeled for them and I have the same concerns. The chemical smell and taste are spot on. I wish beauty boxes with give is less products but higher quality, legitimate brands.

Sometimes I go over a bright lippie with a nude or light colored lip pencil. I try to color my whole lips with the pencil, and it usually works to tone down the brightness. Maybe you could use the lip pencil here over the lip monthly lipstick?

That’s a good idea! I didn’t even think of pairing the nude pencil with it! Thanks, Rachel! 🙂

I actually sorta liked the Lip Monthly color on you except it looked so dry! It is a pretty color, such a shame. The best was the Steve Laurent one IMO. I miss lip Monthly, it is a great way to collect lippies if you arent particular and that yellow baggie is the cutest Ive seen from them yet.

Yeah, the dryness definitely didn’t help with that one. And yes this bag – so cute! 🙂 Thanks for reading!
