Laurel & Reed October 2019 Review

There's a card that simply states all of the things you can expect from the subscription and another info card that features a lovely print on one side with the items clearly listed out with retail prices and short descriptions on the other.

Linné Botanicals Activate Body Wash, 8 oz. - Retail Value $58.00

I really enjoy receiving body washes in boxes because it means I don't have to go buy any at the store. This one from Linné Botanicals is quite unique due to its black color from the activated charcoal. The scent here is a mixture of earthy smells with what I first thought was peppermint but now realize it must be eucalyptus. This makes for an invigorating wash, albeit a messy one due to the color. It has a little bit of foam and won't stain skin, but I can't say the same for my white shower puff that is now grey, haha. No matter, I still think this delivers a clean feeling and looks really nice in my shower.

Ursa Major Brighten Up Vitamin C Serum, 1 oz. - Retail Value $54.00

Ooooh- look at Ursa Major's new packaging! I love the blue and white colorway and graphics. I'm glad to see this familiar brand because I always like everything I try from them. They've included a full-size bottle of the Brighten Up Vitamin C Serum which smells simply divine from containing blood orange peel along with other major players like rose oil, aloe vera leaf juice, aspen bark extract, rosehip seed extract, and more. The pale yellow formula is like a thinner lotion and once spread on, has a really softening plump feeling almost like a heavier balm. Once absorbed, it really hydrates the skin and brings a healthy glow to my face!

Blüh Alchemy Toning Elixir, 3.4 oz. - Retail Value $54.00

Yessss! This is hands down my favorite toner! I was introduced to it in another clean beauty subscription and used the entire bottle up a couple of months ago so I'm really pumped to see Laurel & Reed re-up me. Give me all of the refreshment of the finger lime caviar, please and thank you. This pump has the most divinely fine mist that kisses my skin and makes my face feel plump and hydrated with the included hyaluronic acid. The fresh scent also gives me a boost in the morning when I use it after cleansing and before serums or moisturizers. Bow down!

Spacemasks Self Heating Eye Mask - Retail Value $5.00

Lastly, there's a product that I've never tried before. What we have here is a single-use warming eye mask that delivers a soothing heat for about 15 minutes. It is activated as soon as the package is opened, sort of like those hand warmers people bring to football games. The front has a cute blue and white star pattern and it has elastic bands at either side to loop around your ears to keep secure. As instructed, I put it on and tried to relax in bed one evening which is a little hard than I thought. I'm so used to being on my phone when I have a sheet mask on and without my sight, I was rendered helpless. I suppose that is a true forced chill. While this did feel quite nice, I didn't think to take out my contacts first and it left my eyes feeling a little dry afterward. Not sure this is something I'll use again, but it was fun to try! I wonder if it'd be nice for migraines though?

The Verdict: Laurel & Reed was such a delight this month. I love when they color coordinate the theme and this one had a pleasing blue aesthetic to all the products. The mask wasn't ultimately for me and the body wash is a little messy, but the serum and elixir are well worth the cost of the box to me. I'll be holding on to both of those until empty, guaranteed. The four products included have a retail value of $171 which I think is a great deal for this box.

I’m sad I missed this box. It’s sold out on their website, too. But I did just sign up last night for their November box which looks excellent. I was saying on another post that I’m looking for my “holy grail” type of skincare box. November will be my first box. At some point, want to try Art of Organics, Boxwalla and Pearlesque.

Marne, Thanks for the review. I caved and got this because geesh another Bluh Toning Elixer could not be missed. With winter coming, even with combo/oily skin, hydration is real on those 10 degree days. What a treat..

This looks like a nice box although my budget would not want me to like a $58 8-oz body wash. Especially when it’s something I literally see going down the drain every time I use it. 😢

Been so pleased with everything I have from Linné Botanicals. This sounds like a delightful body wash. It’s a good beauty line.

This looks great! I generally use ice for migraines but I think I’ll look for those heat eye masks and give them a try.

Anyone know what the free gift is? I’m very intrigued by this box.

Nat

I got soap as my free gift. I have a feeling it’s different based on what’s available

This was the final straw. I subscribed to this box and decided to unsubscribe from most of the cheaper tiny-sampleboxes, keeping Beautyfix and TestTube. I want to stick with one smaller box. Help me choose between Allure, Sephora and Birchbox. Already unsubscribed from Macy’s.

I love seeing this teamwork! 😀

My vote between those 3 is also for Allure.

Allure can be hit or miss, but I’d take it over BB or Sephora any day.

I ended up ditching Birchbox and Sephora. I started withBirchbox and was never able to choose the cultivated box and most items were small. Sephora was frustrating because again small samples and also that they had a full skin profile and didn’t factor it in. With all the possibilities I felt like I got some repeats and wayyyyytoo much atelier cologne. Granted, Allure is not perfect (I certainly don’t need two sets of fake eyelashes in one summer) but in general, I find the items useful.

Petit Vour Plus is going to be my new Régulo keeper.

Birchbox and Sephora rarely have full size items. Allure has full sizes on occasions, but recently their boxes can be hit or miss for me. That’s a tough decision. I’m tired of all the tiny samples too, so personally I would choose allure.

The small boxes seem like a good deal at first – only $10-$15! But then half of it is trash, and you either have to go buy stuff anyway, or subscribe to a few. I realized that Macy’s + Birchbox + Sephora would be the same price as this box, but way less value. Thanks! I’ll keep Allure for now.
