CHC Vintage Outfit October 2019 Review

This subscription is customized based on your size and preferences from a survey you fill out after subscribing, so everyone receives something different each month. But that’s part of the fun! Let’s see what I received this month:

CHC Vintage Outfit October 2019 Card Inside

There is usually a handwritten card with some styling suggestions. The level of detail just gives me the feeling that the people at CHC Vintage are really excited by what they do. They wrote September in the card but this was the October shipment. An easy mistake to make, I guess, especially if they are thinking about what to send me in advance. (Also, this came somewhat earlier in October than you are seeing it posted. We had about a week straight of rain and because we got a new couch, there's no longer an appropriate place to take these photos inside. So we had to wait for the rain to let up.)

I find that my preferences are really listened to, as well. I don’t wear shorts or super short skirts and what I received this month (see below) is definitely a length that works for me.

Vintage Sweater and Skirt

When I came downstairs for my husband to take photos he said "that looks very old-fashioned." Which is sort of the point! The skirt has some elastic in the waist so it fits over my hips and my oddly-oversized waist and the elastic appears to be in good condition and to work well. This came with a  belt that I think is meant for someone a little bit thinner than I am...but I've lost a few pounds lately so maybe one day soon I can wear it. I was pleased to put this  on and find out this does not require a slip (although I do have an appropriate one from CHC Vintage Lingerie).

I am particular about the way sweaters feel and this one feels very soft. It does not have a tag so it'll be a hand wash item. I feel a little pale and washed-out in these colors all together, though, so I may split up the set and wear the sweater with some jeans and get a darker brown, more fitted shirt to go with the skirt.

Here is a view of the back:

As you may remember, this subscription also comes with an accessory:

CHC Vintage Outfit October 2019 Earrings

Enameled Stud Earrings

I like these and the cutout pattern in addition to the enamel. However, recently I have been wearing a lot of cheap earrings (and being lazy and not coating the posts with nail polish) and I've had a reaction to the metal and my piercing hole on one side is super irritated and I am just wearing titanium studs for a little while until everything is healed. So I couldn't model the earrings this time (but hopefully if I get any next month I'll be all better by then).

Verdict: I am getting a better sense of what to expect with the CHC Vintage Outfit subscription. I said I was open to outfits from different decades and I have really gotten items originating in the 1940s through the 1990s. Everything has been in wonderful shape (this month included) and all the bottoms have been a length I was happy with (I don’t wear shorts or super short skirts). This month's look definitely takes me back to a different era. I do tend to wear more color and darker/brighter colors, but this makes for a nice change of pace, and I can always mix and match the sweater and skirt with different items from my wardrobe (some of which I still need to order...).

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you subscribe today? No, every box is different.

This looks like something I would have written in the late 90s or early 2000s. I loved pale pink with shades of gray and taupe. I think the lack of color actually makes it “pop”… that probably isn’t the right word but the neutral tones actually make it more unusual and eye catching. You are absolutely gorgeous and your figure and coloring look great in everything.

I love neutrals so I think this outfit is perfect as is!

Ragan

Neutrals are just not really me. Today I am wearing a dress with fuchsia and orange flowers on it with hot pink heels. I am regularly the source of 2 or 3 of the brightest colors in my office of 70+ people.

In that case, I can see why you wouldn’t really dig this outfit.

Maybe you could add some glasses and a couple books and be the librarian for Halloween this year. 😉

Ragan it seems like in a couple of comments, you were being kinda harsh on yourself. Let me just say, you are beautiful, and your figure is lovely. We should all be so lucky! And didn’t you have a baby recently? Maybe I’m thinking of someone else. I love the outfit, and definitely would wear it. Add a touch of color, but you pull it off well. The heels just make it.

No, I definitely did not have a baby recently — you must be thinking of someone else (I think several other reviewers might have?). I had a hysterectomy 2 years ago.

That looks like an outfit I’d wear to high school in the 70’s. I agree with others it needs a pop of color. Love the shoes if they were in a different color, maybe red?

I think if u added a pop of color to this outfit it wouldn’t look so blah. Maybe the same color earrings, belt?, shoes would really make this outfit more exciting ! Might be fun to try !

I was going to post the same thing! An orangey red pop, or turquoise, or…? The possibilities are endless!

Ragan I always love your reviews and think you look great but this outfit seems a little meh to me. It goes together well but isn’t clearly vintage. Just conservative.

That outfit is very well-curated. Super cute!

What about adding a dark brown scarf to the outfit? it would draw it all together, and you might not feel so washed out…I like the sweater with the skirt….

Tara

The outfit looks good but isn’t my style. But loooove the shoes!
