CampusCube Snacks & Essentials Review

My favorite little cousin is on her way to college for her freshman year. It will be her first time away from home and though she is excited, I know the nerves that appear when you are first out on your own! I graduated back in 2008, but I still remember how thrilling it was to get care packages from my family while I was away. For that reason, I was really excited to review this subscription in the hopes that maybe it would be a nice treat for her every few months or so! This subscription is unique in that you can send one box, one every month, or individually select the months you want a shipment, making it perfect for that ever-so-often surprise.

Let's peek inside!

Welly Bravery Badges Bandages - Retail Value $6.99

This is a really smart addition to a college subscription. I never, ever had bandaids on hand when I needed them in school. With more important things to budget for (like wine and shoes, some things never change) I was sorely lacking in first aid essentials. Grace is probably a lot more responsible than I was, but these fabric-style bandages are so cute she would probably replace her boring plastic ones in a heartbeat.

Plastic Water Bottle

It was always nice to have a water bottle on hand in school, and I always needed more for the gym, morning coffee (which I wouldn't use this for!), long classes, my car, and more. It sure beats buying bottled!

Green and Pink Highlighter, Pen, and Stylus Combo Pens

I remember well the struggle in school of disappearing pens. Add to that that most students do loads of work now on tablets and something like this becomes a necessity. These pens have everything Grace will need for note-taking, as well as using her digital touch screen devices.

Blue and Yellow Double-Ended Highlighter

This might not be a super exciting item, but it is undeniably useful. It is nice to have two different colors of highlighter in one, so you can use different colors to emphasize different things in your notes or books.

Orange Crayon-Style Highlighter

This last highlighter is a waxy crayon type of deal, which makes it perfect for those books with thin paper or pads that tend to bleed with traditional highlighters.

Campus Cube Light Keychain

This little keychain is great for stashing on your keys to keep a very bright LED light handy on the way to your car at night or while looking for the cellphone that always falls under your seat in the car after you park...

Salted Caramel Brownie Brittle, 2.75 oz - Buy 5 oz for $2.88

These were tasty! Think if brownies were yummy, crunchy chips. That is basically what we have here. The added caramel and touch of salt totally satisfied that part of me that loves a sweet and salty combo.

Bark Thins Snacking Chocolate with Pretzels, 2 oz - Retail Value $2.49

Chocolate + pretzels are another one of my sweet tooth favorites. Again, this was a perfect combo of sweet and salty, with little hints of salt scattered throughout the dark chocolate. Yum!

Tiny Tate's Itsy Bitsy Crispy Cookies, 1 oz – Buy 7 oz for $4.99

I didn't love these, but in all fairness, I don't like dry cookies. These felt a little more like crackers but would still do in a pinch if you had a cookie craving.

Live Love Pop Popcorn with Truffle Salt, 1 oz - Buy 4.4 oz for $3.49

I absolutely adore truffle oil and popcorn, so this was a snack that was very easy to love! It was also very light, so it made for guilt-free snacking.

Creative Snacks Co. Gourmet Nut Blend, 2.75 oz - Retail Value $1.99

This snack was another easy win. A sizeable bag filled with a mix of cherries, pecans, pistachios, cranberries, and cashews, this didn't last long.

Late July Nacho Chipotle Chips, 2 oz - Buy 2.25 oz for $1.69

These chips were a bit too spicy for my taste, but Will loved them. He thought the chips were crunchy and just the right amount of spicy. He does like chipotle anything!

Hippeas White Cheddar Cheese Curls 1.5 oz - Buy 5 oz for $3.49

I have had these before and I already knew I loved them. The white cheddar variety is actually my fave! These are kind of like healthier, denser cheese curls with less powder mess.

OLLY Bars, two 1.6 oz bars - Buy 4 bars for $7.99

Similar bars were my go-to back in school when my schedule was packed with too many classes and I didn't have time to have a real lunch a few days each week. These are packed with protein, which keeps you fuller longer, and topped with chocolate drizzle.

Sour Patch Kids, 2 oz - Retail Value $0.79

Who doesn't love Sour Patch Kids? This might have felt more exciting if it was a whole bag, but my tummy is probably better off with this small one.

Swedish Fish, 2 oz - Buy 3.1 oz for $0.99

Again, would have loved a big bag! I adore Swedish Fish and find them to be my favorite classic candy.

Propel Packets - Buy 60 packets for $29.99

These individual electrolyte packs are perfect for after the gym or after having a little too much fun on Thursday night. The flavors included Kiwi Strawberry, Lemon, and Grape.

Emergen-C Vitamin C Powder Packets, 0.32 oz - Buy 30 packets for $11.99

Finally, our last item is perfect for those dorm days when your whole floor is sick and it happens to be finals week. Give your body a vitamin C boost and get back to the books!

Verdict: This CampusCube would have been a lot of fun to get in the mail when I was in school, and I can only imagine Grace would be pretty happy with it too. You could likely put together a more thorough DIY care kit for the money, but you are paying for convenience with this service and I think the packaging and easy-to-schedule delivery model certainly has some value. I liked the mix of practical items and all those snacks! I think there probably needed to be some sort of hero item, but all in all, this is absolutely something I would consider for a loved one away at college!

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

If you are looking for an alternative, I sent My daughter Kites and ivy when she was in school. Not just food, but beauty and wellness products. Price is $34.99 and they have a $5 coupon on their site.

I think sending a care package to a student is a great idea! I would have loved it, though I suspect I would have hated the branded items. Shipping is expensive these days, calculating what it would cost me to ship a package like that cuts the cost somewhat. Despite that, a homemade one would be better, more personalized, but if you are giving it to yourself or don’t have the time to put together one. This is great!

I would loooove for this subscription box to be made available to international subscribers!!

I am going back to college next September 2020 – at the “young” age of 42! for another MA – and it would be great to give this gift to myself every month 🙂
