Bomibag September 2019 Review

There was no information card included in the package. I found more about the bag contents here. However, it appears there were some substitutions in my package compared to what they blogged about.

Bomibag September 2019 Collagen Mask

Etude House Skin Firming Collagen Mask - Retail Value $1.99

This has, as you might expect, collagen. Well, hydrolyzed collagen anyway. I'm not sure the extent to which it is hydrolyzed (hydrolyzed means to break up into smaller pieces, in this instance) so I'm not sure the average m0lecule size, and that is going to have a lot to do with absorption. (In general, collagen is too large to penetrate the skin, though it can hang on to water near the surface of the skin and is thus moisturizing.) This also has some amino acids and antioxidants so it may be a good general-purpose mask. It did not have a strong scent and it fit my face pretty well.

Bomibag September 2019 Milk Mask

A'Pieu White Milk One Pack Hydrating Mask - Retail Value $2 (found here for $1)

This one seems familiar to me but I have reviewed a lot of K-beauty boxes so it's entirely possible I've seen it in a different box before. Anyway, this has milk protein, which is supposed to soften dead skin, and aloe, which is both moisturizing and soothing. This is a great one to remember for winter. The serum is a little milky but the mask is not too drippy (like, I didn't get serum all over my shirt).

Bomibag September 2019 Heimish

Heimish Black Tea Mask Pack (7 mL) - Estimated Value $1.40 (buy 110 mL for $22)

This is a one time use sample; the full size is quite a bit larger. You may be able to get two uses out of it if you use sparingly and reclose the package after your first treatment. This has black tea which is an excellent source of antioxidants, among other things. This one is supposed to soothe breakouts and has other effects in those areas, but it's the kind of thing I feel like you need to use more than once to see results. On the plus side, it is inexpensive to get the full size, so it would be easy to get more for extended use.

Bomibag September 2019 Lip 1 Bomibag September 2019 Lip 2

Laneige Special Care Lip Sleeping Mask (3 g) - Estimated Value $3 (buy 20 g for $20)

This may have been my favorite item in the box. I like really thick balms and treatments for my lips at night and this delivered. It has a slightly fruity taste and it was so moisturizing, I didn't have to reapply any lip balm all night. The only thing that would make this better is if it was in some kind of squeeze tube where you don't have to put your finger in the pot to apply.

Bomibag Septmeber 2019 Pyunkang Yul

Pyunkang Yul Low pH Pore Deep Cleansing Foam (40 mL) - Estimated Value $5.28 (buy 100 mL for $13.20; found here for $7.92)

Pyunkang Yul is a common brand in Bomibag. I don't think I've tried any of their cleansers before. This one actually does foam and was very effective as the second step in a double cleanse. This has witch hazel so it is somewhat toning, and it also has tea tree extract so it may help fight breakouts. Although this one is formulated to remove excess sebum, it is non-drying and in fact, contains sodium hyaluronate for added moisturizing capabilities.

Bomibag September 2019 Acerola

The Face Shop Herb Day 365 Foaming Cleanser, Acerola (170 mL) - Retail Value $8

This appears to have been discontinued although a few are still available at the link above as of the time I am writing this review. This is another foaming cleanser (a little weird to get two of those in a month) but it is full-size. Acerola is a fruit that has many antioxidants, especially vitamin C, and this smells lovely. It also works well as the second step in a double cleanse, which is how I would typically use a product of this nature.

Verdict: I calculated a total estimated value of $21.67 for the September Bomibag. It is a little strange to get two foaming cleansers in one month, but, on the other hand, this is a product type I regularly use, but I haven't settled on a brand, so I am happy to have several to try. (Naturally, I just bought a full-size one from Ulta earlier in the month!) The lip mask was a highlight and I'm just generally a fan of sheet masks and wash-off masks, so this was a pretty good month for me, even though the value was on the low side (but still greater than the month-to-month cost of the box).

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you subscribe today? No, your first shipment will be November's. Also, there *may* be some variation in box contents based on what I have received versus what the Bomibag website says I should have received.

Value Breakdown: At $19.99 for this subscription, you’re paying about the following per item:

  • Collagen mask $1.84
  • Milk mask $1.85
  • Black tea mask $1.29
  • Lip mask $2.78
  • Pyunkang Yul cleanser $4.87
  • The Face Shop cleanser $7.38

My big pot of Leneige came with a little spatula, but a tube would be much easier. Great product though. I always enjoy your food and beauty reviews because you give that extra science information and it’s so helpful.

I would not call the sample I received “big.” It was a perfectly fine size for a lip product but it was pretty tiny. Like maybe the size of a quarter.

I bought the large one last year & the kit came with three small ones in different scents. My guess is the spatula was part of that gift set rather than a standard option. The small ones last forever. I will likely have to pitch the big one before it gets used up since it will expire. Great product though.

I believe Laneige does have a lip product that’s new in a tube but I’m not sure if it’s the same formula. I love that mask!
